clutch problems

Firstly a happy new year to you all, secondly my 90's clutch pedal has started creaking as i depress it, you can't hear anything in the engine bay but you can by the bellhousing and you can also feel a little something through the pedal. I am guessing either the release fork or something in the clutch itself is on the way out as the clutch is starting to be a little jumpy. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated also opinions on either box or engine out for clutch swap.

It's probably the clutch fork giving up, at the point it pivots.

An uprated one, with a bit of metal welded across the back, is only a few quid more than standard.

It's worth considering the age/condition of the clutch, too. Given the work involved in getting the box off, would it be worth putting a new clutch in, while you're down there? (for the sake of an extra £100).

Before assuming the worst, try lubricating the return spring and the pedal pivot; it might just be something simple - the clutch would seem jumpy if the pedal is stiff.

Thanks for the replies, i had already oiled the pivot and spring before i posted and after soaking overnight still no improvement. I also have very little clutch left on the pedal and the creaking is definately coming from the bell housing so it looks like a strip down job.

Looking forward to ur update on this clutch problem. I am experiencing similar symptoms with my clutch on a Def 110 SW (300tdi/r380 GB) and still trying to diagnose the fault.

Well the landy has been parked up for a few days and when I tried it on saturday the problem had gone. My thought now is that I had been doing a lot of miles on very wet roads and some off road work aswell and I wonder if some dirt and or damp has got into the bell housing. I am going 2 run her on for a day or two and see what happens, will keep you posted.

I was going to post tonight, until i read this. What a coincedence.

My clutch pedal gives a loud creak/squeal when depressed. I was going to ask for a cure.

Incidentally, my clutch fork and clutch are both brand new. The creak has always been there even before the new clutch and fork. I think its something where the clutch pedal pivots, but dont know how accessable the mechanism is.

If you look at the pedal box on the bulkhead in the engine bay there is a plate with 6 screws in it, unscrew these and remove the plate then you can access the pedal pivot and lubricate it.

Ah ok, thankyou. But i didnt work for you though, so im not confident i will be able to solve it in this way. Ill try it anyway.

Mine sometimes squeaks from the pedal. Some oil on the pivot sorts it, though once it was the return spring squeaking where it attaches to the pedal. So oiled that instead
