Nigelw Posted January 26, 2013 Share Posted January 26, 2013 Can someone tell me what size star bolt spanner/socket I will need for removing the bolts from a Discovery brake caliper. Please do not give a million suggestions for other optional solutions as I plan to reuse the bolts when refitting and want it to be as though it was never touched by my ham fisted paws. davie Posted January 26, 2013 Share Posted January 26, 2013 as above on sizes and i would suggest not re using them for either being rounded or just corroded. they are cheap enough to replace and i always do it that way as a re assurance thing as its braking system. Nigelw Posted January 27, 2013 Author Share Posted January 27, 2013 So it would seem these bolts are called a "double Hex head" and I think I will replace them with a 10.9 normal bolt when they come out, I had figured they would end up stripping as every thread concerning removing the calipers has at least one bolt that has to be ground off and removed with mole grips. Oh well, such is life, never gets any easier, no idea why they can't just use one sensible type of fastener and make life easy, but they keep telling me progress is inevitable, that maybe so but it all comes at a price!!! Igol Posted January 27, 2013 Share Posted January 27, 2013 Alldrive sockets are what your after and they arent too bad to remove with the right one and when it fails the good old Irwin bolt extractor kit is worth more than its weight in gold.
