bluespanner
Recently fitted a disco tdi for a friend into a 110. Once it was in and running, it seemed to run very cool, so I checked the 'stat and lo and behold, there wasn't one. Fitted one, and the temp sits at 85, but now the oil pressure drops off to nothing. (both gauges are capillary) Cold oil pressure is 40psi at tick over and 80psi at 2k rpm. I'm thinking worn oil pump? Not doing its job with hot thin oil? I assume a slipped cam bearing would affect oil pressure at all times, not just when hot. Roland
vulcan bomber
JAD on the forum had similar issues, that turned out to be the oil pump.
dirtyninety
check the cam shaft timing gear bolt isnt loose and allowed the cam to slide backwards. Fairly common on 200's.
ejparrott
80 psi? are you sure? The manual says 55 I think, and mine never gets above that. Once we've blasted up the motorway for an hour, the VDO guage often reads as good as zero, but the warning light never comes on.
jad
Mine wasnt oil pump for that problem... when mine was warm a long time ago the oil light would flicker but not while cold. This was the CAM bearing turning which I think will be your problem. When my oil pump was the problem I would get pressure briefly and then it would go to zero hot or cold at start up. Now everything is fixed Cold at idle i will get 75/80psi, warm 12/15psi Jad
Briarston
Try a search for 200tdi oil pressure on this forum. I was worried by low oil pressure readings on a re-conned engine. I even fitted a new oem pump complete with little noticable improvement. Read Snaggers comments on this issue.
bluespanner
Would a slipping cam bearing only show up when hot though? Or all the time?
jad
The oil light on mine only came on at hot idle due to the cam bearing. I didnt have an oil pressure gauge at the time. Jad
bluespanner
When this engine gets hot, there is no pressure at any rpm. Without the thermostat in it sits at 50psi
