Nigelw
My Rusty is from 1992 and has the chrome balls, my V8 that has supplied me with all of the hardware for converting to 24 spline, but just popped in my head earlier today to actually ask. Is there a difference in the swivel housings or balls that would stop me using the teflon coated balls from the 1998 axles on the 1992 axles? I ask for a definitive answer as it rifts in my head as no and something about bearings and Railko bushes, anyone know?
discomikey
this is not a definate 100% answer, however, im 97.668325% sure that the only difference is that you press a bearing into one and a bush into the other, i.e. the land is the same size. i know for sure that RRC and early disco/110 balls are all interchangeable (swivel housing wise)
disco_al
the only other difference is abs and non abs have different bearings. only pre 89 (i think) had the railko type bushes, rather than the taper bearings
Part1cle
From the Defender forum, this might help http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=82694 I bought a job lot of bits from a bloke who was going to use them to build a '87 RR front axle, swivels are the same as those for my '98 ABS Disco axle, FRC7065. As far as I can see the only difference (if the axles have roller bearings) is the top pin and associated bearing. ABS pin has a hole through for a sensor, non-ABS doesn't. Shim part numbers are different but thickness is the same, probably metric/imperial versions.
