gadget
I'm putting together a list of bits to order to replace the swivels on my 110. FTC5105 is ABS and FTC5366 in non-ABS. FTC5366 is much more expensive than the ABS one, so as i'm replacing the swivel, bearings and swivel pins can I use the FTC5105 and simply blank the sensor hole off? tuko
Depends on the cv-joint, the abs swivel is smaller internally.

gadget
And after more reading... From 1994-ish both ABS and non-ABS are allegedly fitted with FTC5105 and it's only the top pin that differs. Either TAR100040 or TAR100050. So i should already have FTC5105 (2003MY). Is the part number stamped on a swivel somewhere?
tuko
I've never saw the part number stamped on the swivels.
Aragorn
FTC5105 is the older swivel for axles with railko bearings FRC7065 is the later swivel for axles with taper bearings top and bottom. There is no ABS/non-ABS split as far as i can see on Microcat. All defenders from 94 to present use the same FRC7065 swivel.

I was worrying a bit as I'm going to rebuild an '98 ABS axle to non-ABS and now have most of the new parts, except bearings. I thought I had sussed the bit about the different top pin, and have FRC7065's, hence the panic! Cheers, H.

So it should be a FRC7056 and either TAR100040 or TAR100050 for the top pin?
Aragorn
TAR100040 is for No ABS, TAR100050 is with ABS.
gadget
According to lrseries FTC5105 is for 20L,21L,22L,23L axles FRC7065 is for 61,61S,63L,64L axles I've got a 23M axle
Aragorn
My microcat lists 10M thru 17M as FRC7065, but doesnt have any 23M listed. Ignoring axle codes there are essentially two types of swivel. Pre '94 defenders use 5015 and these have railko top bushes. Post 94 Defenders use 7065 and these have taper bearings. If you have taper bearings (which you do) then you need the 7065 swivel. gadget
23M axle has a part number TAG000160 apparently. If you have taper bearings (which you do) then you need the 7065 swivel. I wish i had your confidence about it.
Aragorn
yeh, that PN is correct, 23M axle is 110 heavy duty front, Less ABS, with vented front brakes, fitted between 2002 and 2004. Which means it will absolutely have taper bearing swivels! I think the ABS/non-ABS confusion comes from Range Rover and Discovery models. They seem to use a weird combination of bits when equipped with ABS.

I guess this also explains why the panhard rod is larger than the non HD axle. Which means it will absolutely have taper bearing swivels!Ordering time! At least the mists have cleared now
Aragorn
bigger panhard rod is fitted to all post-2002 defender axles. It seems they switched to using the bigger bush as the Disco2 uses, so presumably just rationalising their catalogues.
gadget
What difference is the HD over non HD axle? Thicker tube?
Aragorn
Not sure, i've only ever heard of the rear heavy duty rover axle, didnt know there was a front one.
101sean
Changed the swivels on my 00 ABS 110 a while back, there was no difference in the housings, the difference is the hollow top pin that comes with a half bearing, one of tracks is the pin itself. It's easy to tip the rollers so be careful, shimming is a PITA with these.
gadget
I've ordered everything to rebuild both sides completely. Not cheap, but hopefully i'll not have to touch it for a while after putting it together. Can't say that i'm looking forward to the shim setting. I've noticed that pretty much everyone seems to use blue hylomar on the gaskets when they rebuild. Are they prone to leak without?
