Dash Screws.......

Where can I get replacement screws that hold the dash to the bulkhead??
Basically am getting nearer to the end of my rebuild, and would like to use some nice new screws rather than random ones that came out.
Just that I can find packs of floor screws, and light screws, and various other nuts and bolts but no dash ones.

Anyone know where I can get a pre made pack, or what type of screws are they??

'LR Fasteners' have made something of a niche for themselves in the area of, well, fastenings used in LRs, to original specification.

IIRC some of the dashboard screws are screws going into a threaded bush riveted to the frame, while other screws are actually 'screws and nuts'.

Damn, now I suppose I've got to look them up!!

Set screw (2 BA x 3/8" long), 5 off, Part 77941.

Plain washer, 5 off, Part 3885.
Spring washer, 5 off, Part 3073.

Nut (2 BA), 2 off, Part 2247.

Regards.

I used a complete vehicle kit from LR Fasteners (located in the appropriate town of Bolton) and it it made the rebuild considerably easier. They break the kits down into individual sections, zip bagged for the fasteners you need for individual jobs, rather than bagged by type and size. They sell sub-kits, so they'd be your best bet.

The lower dash is attached to the bulkhead with a number of self tappers, washers and plastic inserts around the bottom edge (visible) and two bolts and rivnuts behind the raised back edge of the parcel tray. The top dash is secured with five big self tappers into plastic inserts, another four smaller but similar screws and inserts for the vents and some much smaller inserts and screws for the ends and front lip. There are also a handful of other nuts and bolts, screws and plastic inserts to secure the instrument pod to the steel panel around the vents. Their kit is going to be much easier to buy than trying to work out what you need over a counter and will save you money in the long run from driving back and forth to your local supplier.

LR fasteners got back to me and they need a part number of each screw/washer/nut etc, and they want quantities.

So a quick look through my Parts Manual and come up with this lot. More than what I need as asked for extras, and some stuff I'd not thought about, can anyone see anything I'm missing??

Just hope they won't charge the earth!!

That's bloody strange. My whole vehicle kit came in bags with just the right numbers of each fastener for each job, so they must have that information already.

This is the reply from my initial email.

Thank you for your enquiry.

We specialise in fixings and fasteners for Land Rovers. See attached information regarding Body Kits.

We can put you a kit together for your dash if you send us a list with Land Rover Part Numbers and Quantities.
We will price up and let you know together with the carriage costs – we assume you are in UK.
These numbers are all in the Land Rover Parts Catalogue for your vehicle RTC.9841CE we sell these also at
£35.00 including post and packing. If you have not got one it is the first thing you need when refurbishing
your vehicle. It gives exploded diagrams of all assemblies on your vehicle together with the quantities and
Land Rover Part Number. All dealers work to this system, all landrovers are different and this is the only way
you will get the correct parts for your project.
So please send us a list of your requirements and we will price up for you.
Regards, BA, Admin, L.R.Fasteners.

SO sent them the long list above and they have come back with a price of £103 delivered, which was a bit more than I was expecting. BUT I did add extra of every nut/bolt/washer as no doubt something will go wrong with one lol.

Wow! Not very useful service and a huge charge as well. They were great with the vehicle kit, and given how they bagged everything up for each job, not by fastener type, they must have lists of what is needed where. Maybe they lost their information, but that price doesn't seem a very good deal for the parts involved. In your position, I'd just take examples of the screws I needed to Screwfix (they have counters now) or my nearest fastenings specialist - none of them are LR specific and the only items on the bulkhead that might be hard to locate would be the cage nuts for the door pillars and red plastic inserts for the instrument binnacle and floor panel screws, but a LR dealer would stock them in bags of 5 or 10.

Without wanting to say anything on a public forum, I did think that was a bit much, at nearly 1/3 or the cost of a whole kit.

But it would sort a lot of head scratching, and running around. So I dunno.

Anglian Fasteners are just down the road from me, and they are quite happy so sell me small quantities over the counter when I take down old used samples. They're much cheaper than the quote you were given. I imagine you'd have a similar business near you.

This brings me to the next problem

The pots that I put the screws into all nicely labelled up, well my cat got in and made a nice bed in the window, knocking the pots over.

So I have a larger pot of mixed screws, which because I have so many, I am not entirely sure what goes where .

So you can see my problem :D

The moral of that aspect of this story is that cats are a very expensive luxury. .

Just think how much easier life would have been if you had a Series 2/2A as I'd initially assumed :-)

My only observation on the differing responses from LR Fasteners (SJ v Snagger) is that your vehicles are not exactly matched, so the fastener list is different, or something in SJs first post to them was not clear, so they didn't know which fastener list to apply.

I did expect LR Fasteners to be expensive, in terms of outright cost, but plenty of people have said the individual bagging and labelling is worth it.

Sorry, I've no direct experience with any other form of Series Land Rover, so can't be of more help.

Good Luck
