mudmagnet
On my 300tdi no abs without the engine running the pedal is solid and it stays solid without going any further down but when i start the engine and press the brake with a medium pressure the pedal slowly sinks The car stops just fine and doesn't pull to one side and I only have to just touch the brakes and the car starts slowing down It almost feels like the servo is working too well I have checked the hoses to the servo and there is no splits and the brake hoses are fairly new and there is no air in the system Is it usual for the pedal to feel like this with the engine running
Tanuki
Sounds like the master-cylinder has a fault. If your fluid-level is not going down, then the fluid _must_ be leaking past the master-cylinder piston and back into the reservoir. [if the fluid-level _does_ go down but there are no external leaks, the fluid can be leaking into the vacuum-chamber part of the servo. On petrol engines this can eventually lead to spectacular smoke-trails as the fluid gets sucked into the intake manifold and burned by the engine]
Maverik
Do some LR4x4 google searching on brake problems... you'll find heaps of threads on the topic.
mudmagnet
No leaks fluid level stays where it is always
mudmagnet
Also I hardly have to put any pressure on the brake pedal to stop the car but if I then keep my foot on the pedal when the car is stopped it can slowly go down but it never goes all the way to the floor
Bowie69
Leak is internal to the master cylinder, you won't see it, but the fluid is slowly creeping back into the reservoir.
mudmagnet
Well fitted new master cylinder and new front caliper bled the whole system and it has made no real difference so it must be something else
Marten
Check your brake hoses. You may be ballooning a hose.
