pgrbff
I have just bought the vehicle and noticed the bottom is broken off the dump valve. What does it do? The filter housing mounting rubbers are also all broken. Is this a common problem?
vulcan bomber
diesels dont have dump valves.... Are you refering to the waste gate actuator?
pgrbff
Its a rubber protrusion that points downwards from the air filter housing lid (the cylindrical type). The Haynes manual refers to it as a "dump valve'.
CwazyWabbit
That is to allow water to drain out of the air filter box, it should function as a one way valve. The rubber mounts of the airbox do fail over time.
Snagger
It is a water drain. The idea behind its duck-beak shape is that when the engine is running, the bill is sucked closed to prevent water being sucked in. When the engine is off, the bill opens and any water is drained out. There should also be one in the low spot of the heater intake and engine wing intake trunking. mmgemini
The filter housing holding rubbers are prone to breaking up. I replaced the Land Rover rubbers with Mini, real original Mini, exhaust mount rubbers. You will have to drill the holes for the rubbers bolts out as they are 1/2" UNF instead of metric.
