Ian Barrett
Morning All, At Donnington I bought a pair of Mud (Mudstuff?) door handles on a bit of a whim. I've fitted the drivers side handle but I'm not so sure about it. I'm guessing I'm not the only one with these so is this feeling just because its something very different to what I'm used to or should I perhaps have cut the nylon a bit to make it feel more like a door handle than a shopping bag handle. I left the handle as it came out of the bag - with 4" of nylon strap either side of the rubber handle. Thanks IanB
Diablo
I've used them as high up handles (above the door window) - but know what you mean. I think I cut an inch to an inch and a half off each end to get it how I wanted.
AndrewHorsfield
I trimmed quite a bit of mine, so that they don't sag too much. Seal the cut edge with a lighter or similar flame.
landy andy.
As above. Kept cutting them till they were much shorter, and felt better. But they keep swinging on the single screw so then binned them. Did notice that they weren't fitted to their demo defender this year. simonr
I have one fitted on the drivers side because the original poked me in the side of my knee. It solves that problem - but I agree with the above that it's not the most satisfactory solution! What I think it needs is a handle like they used to put on things like typewriters. It was a spring steel strip covered in plastic with a slot in either end. Secured by a single screw each end with the slot covered by a metal / plastic box (with two sides missing). The spring steel makes it normally sit flat against the door, but when you grab it, it bows out in to a handle. I suggested this to Kevin at MUD - so you never know! I guess I could make the strip out of a tape measure spring and 3D print a flexible handle and covers! Si
simonr
Or just buy one of these! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175mm-Flat-Black-Plastic-Case-Handle-Nickel-Plated-Replacement-Carry-Suitcase-/350752502996?pt=UK_Tickets_Travel_Luggage_CA&hash=item51aa7a74d4 And shorten it a bit! Ian Barrett
Hmmm, It looks like I'll start with chopping off an inch and see how it's goes. But it looks like a great idea in theory which may not work so well in practice. Failing that I'll keep my eyes open for replacement LR handles. Ian Barrett
Well I decided I really don't like the MudStuff handles and I've bought replacement proper door handles. Sometimes progress isn't all its cracked up to be!
Steve King
You could always go down the bling route and buy the Croytec aftermarket handles! You may need to speak nicely to your wife and bank manager first though!!!
