LR90
PAS Pump? Is there any sign that fluid is being circulated and returned to the reservoir?
Andy
yep sounds like pump to me as well. a mates defender once lost power steering because the magnet in the pump to collect swarf moved & blocked the intake.

Andy
me wake up? that'd be a first. you can get a 200tdi pump apart if your careful. its easy enough to work out as you go along, the basic order of things (its been a few years since i did it) is remove the pump - obvious eh? remove the pressure relief valve the body of the pump looks like a can, it will press off backwards with a screwdriver worked around the top then there is 4 bolts holding the back on the pump itself. then the rotor & vanes lift/fall out, there is a key holding the rotor to the shaft (if the bearing retaining clip in the front of the pump goes it will eat this key killing the pump) then the plate the pulley bolts to will slide/drift (needs pressure/gentle hammer) off the shaft followed by the plastic dust cover then you see the spring clip retaining the bearing, remove that & the shaft slides out forward. i replaced the bearing in mine when it died for about £6 from BTR bearings. any bearing specialist should manage to match it i believe. there is also an oil seal on the shaft behind the rotor. heres a few pics i took as went along inside the 'can' you can see where the magnet goes bottom left of the body in that slot the rotor & vanes all the bits that acceptable mark?
