GBMUD
I can't speak for the 1.8l K-series but I can vouch for the 1.4l being reliable and easy to work on. Chris
MogLite
Are they that bad? We had an X-reg one from new on lease. 30,000miles in 3 years, never even blew a blub. Very thirsty on fast motorway runs. Would I have another - nah too plain, and car like. What bugged me, was you look inside and the interior looks big, but it wasn't. I think because the seats are small.

reads90
Are they that bad? No I have been racing all weekend with my Brothers TD4 and his wifes 1.8 Freelander The 1.8 goes like a bat out of hell. And i was co driving for her most of the weekend . After one round a chap in a bowler came up to us and told us he was catching us on the really ruff stuff but said to his co driver that they could take the freelander on the straight but when he got the the straight they both siad where the bloody hell has it gone , as the Freelander shot away from them. I joked with him and said no bad is it for a 1.8. He found the funny side of it as he had a 5.2 Bowler He is a Vid of my brothers one Vid of Racing freebie Pics of the 1.8 of Vickys . It is a R reg ( but with a new front end on)
jules
The Td4 gave its first trouble of the season but that was down to a turbo hose blowing off then taking in water but I think Vik's 1.8 was the only car that did not see a spaner throughout the whole weekend.
