Ropes and shackles

Recommended Posts

Hello and good afternoon all.

I am looking to buy some shackles and a recovery rope/web and have a couple of questions. First question, I presume that for safety reasons the web/rope should have a lower breaking strain than the shackle? Second question can anyone recommend places to buy good equipment?

Cheers, Matt

for shackles use Rated not less than 3.25 tonne, straps should be polyester with a BLUE ident tag,

what area are you in ?

Shackles --- https://www.red-bhw.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=83_365&zenid=dh0rmf99k8uhmdm6657sb56jk1

more here --- http://www.goodwinch.com/product-category/winching-accessories/page/2/

or there are soft shackles available [not heavy metal items] http://www.softshackle.com/Shopping-cart.html but these are a bit more costly than the metal shackles.

I agree with Western, if you ask nicely at your local crane/lifting company you may even get them for free.

My local place used to bin their old straps after a couple of years, I would ring up a few days before I was coming past and they would leave a pile for me to pick through. There were often shackles in the pile too but always too large for LR use.

Lifting straps are also rated at 7:1 breaking strain rather than towing equipment which is 3:1 but there is very little stretch in them.
