o_teunico
Easy trick I have made in my 88". 1-Find a suitable clean and flat area for working. 2-Park your landy. Wheels chocked, handbrake off and battery disconnected 3-Take 400 Euros out off your pocket 4-And buy an Isuzu 4ec1 powered Corsa! LOL 1.5 litres diesel, 50hp and 70 to 74mpg (4L/100km). Mine has 325.000km on the clock and a rusty body, but its low fuel consumption will give me money for the landy, used now once a week on road and as a 4x4 toy. I have nicknamed it "Lacasito" like some colorfull chocolate candies, very popular here in Spain. Note that this fuel saving trick will also work with thirsty V8 Land Rovers. Nigelw
Not good here in NL, the diesel taxation on your road tax kills any idea of savings
Diesel_90
Brilliant engines!! I had one fitted in a corsa B many years ago. It provided a cheap cheap reliable vehicle to commute in. It wasn't the quickest thing so I fitted a ISUZU 1.7td from a Astra and a turbo from a 3.1 trooper. It still provided a cheap reliable car to commute in but maybe it was a little over powered for the car.
Soren Frimodt
Oh that's where I went wrong! When I bought the 4,2 Jag I thought I was saving money because it was so low and aerodynamic, but it turned out I didn't, and now I know why!
o_teunico
Here in Spain car taxings depends from local authorities. Last owner was paying less than 60 Eur per year. insurance is less than 200 per year and estimated saving in fuel about 1200 Eur per year. (80 to 100km 22 days per month, paying now 1.2 to 1.4 Eur/litre of diesel). Soren, maybe a lower car should do the trick. V8 Lotus? My Lacasito and the real ones. Les Henson
70+ mpg 2.25 diesel is possible! So it's actually a 1.5 diesel Les
o_teunico
After one week waiting for insurance paperwork, I have used now Lacasito on a full Mon-Fri run to work. That same trip cost me in fuel the previous week with Evaristo, my beloved 88", a total of 42 Eur. Lacasito has used just 19 Eur! Money saved in fuel will be reinvested in the Landy.
