Cynic-al
I put a second hand steering box on a year ago and it's leaking badly. Rather than keep fitting unknown second hand boxes I figured I'd strip my original and see if it's worth a refurb. The seals causing the problem were obvious and the box is in good nick so I'm going to rebuild it but the manual I have implies I should have a needle bearing on the input shaft, there wasn't one there and I ran the box for 4 years without a problem. Anyone know if there should be one? As a side note these don't come off easy do they?
landroversforever
Haha they can take a hell of force to remove. Mine took a huge puller and my 1/2" windy gun!
Cynic-al
Mine took wd40, a lump hammer, a blow lamp and everything I could give it on the press. That plate I've got under it is 26mm thick and it was bending :/ No wonder people cut them off and buy a new one.
JeffR
Given the absolute buggeration and the cost of a new one, an angle grinder is your best friend for removing these things.....
