JST
i have a defender 200tdi in an H reg 110 with a 6 bolt box. it needs a new steering box. as you cant easily get 6 bolt boxes, i was thinking of fitting a 4 bolt box. Does anyone know if the current pump and therefore pipework will fit? pump is NTC8287 if not what pump and pipe work would i need to match the 4 bolt box? many thanks
Retroanaconda
I took a 6-bolt box out of my 200Tdi and replaced it with a 4-bolt so you should be ok. I believe 4-bolt and 6-bolt share pipe port threads, but 3-bolt is different. While the drop arm fitment is the same for 4-bolt and 3-bolt but different for 6-bolt. So get a box with an arm, or a bare box and new 4/3-bolt arm.
JST
thank you James, whats the difference on the drop arms?
Retroanaconda
I believe the taper is slightly different? I've certainly seen instances where a difference has been noted by people (eg - http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=72974). Different part numbers, though I'll admit that doesn't always mean anything! I got a new Adwest arm complete with ball joint for not a lot when I did mine, as the 4-bolt box I got came with a Disco arm (which I had to cut off). New washer/nut and big torque wrench and we were away.

western
I swapped out a dead 6 bolt for a new 4 bolt box a while ago, PAS pump remains & pipes fit straight in 4 bolt box.
