chadler Posted July 29, 2010 Share Posted July 29, 2010 After much googling over which PAS pump is suited to which application, my confusion is only deepening, so as a forum can we put our heads together to get down in one thread which model each of the below is for, the type of fittings and the variations between the models etc. NTC8287, According to google this has a banjo fitting on rear, and a stub pipe on the top casing. Is this for 300tdi only? NTC8288, Appears to have a stub pipe on the top casing and a compression fitting on the side of the casing, some websites claim this is for ALL 200tdi models, but my one doesn't look like this on my genuine defender 200tdi! NTC9070, Appears to have a curved stub pipe coming from the rear of the casing and a compression fitting on the side. Whats this for? NTC9077, Appears to have the same pipe fitting configuration as NTC8287, some websites state that this is a 2.5TD pump, what are the diferrences to NTC8287 and can one be directly swapped for the other? Google can't even find a picture for this one. Are there any other LR PAS pumps out there to be added to this list? western Posted July 29, 2010 Share Posted July 29, 2010 NTC9070 is for Defender 200Tdi, got one on my engine & can be fitted to the 2.5 n/a & TD diesels providing the correct pipes are also fitted. NTC8288 is IIRC for a Discovery 200Tdi & RRC 200Tdi NTC8287 can be used on Defender 200Tdi subject to the correct pipes being fitted too. 300Tdi PAS is completly different. Retroanaconda Posted July 29, 2010 Share Posted July 29, 2010 Hmm, contradicts the parts book info. But yours was a retro-fit so maybe that has something to do with it. The fitment to the engine/pully is the same with NTC8287 , the only difference is the hose arrangements I believe. So possibly your engine has a slightly different hose arrangement? There was a thread on here not long ago about stripping and rebuilding a PAS pump, but I can't find it anywhere, if someone does manage to find it then could they post a link into this thread as it may help with future searches. Yes I think it must be as it has the rear banjo fitting and top jubilee connection, or I suppose it could be an NTC9077, but no one knows what that is for or can find a picture for it! I've got the NTC9070 on my 90 which apparently is no longer available! Tried landrover dealers / specialists / scrap yards etc etc, no one could get one or had one. Spoke with very helpful chap at one of the landrover specialists explained the problem i had. The very nice man told me how to change rear cover from mine to a disco one which was the same barring the pipework. saved me a fortune & have done it again so now have good spare . The disco ones second hand cost anything from a tenner but you try getting the one i need for that?? you looking at minimum of about sixty notes second hand. I had a spare disco one kicking around so done what he said & all sorted in ten minutes fitted to the 90 & have had no problems since!! Here's how you do it!! NTC8288 to NTC9070 Place NTC8288 into vice with the large nut & the top, remove nut & keep "O" ring from under nut with it (there is a sprung loaded pin that will pop up out the hole, you can revove & refit later). Remove rear tin cover of pump by tapping with rubber mallet backwards, keeping it square whilst removing. Once removed you will see the large "O" ring that the cover seals itself on. Do the same as above to the NTC9070, then refit the NTC9070 rear tin cover to the internals of the NTC8288 the opposite to how you removed it. refit sprung pin back into pump, refit large nut & small "O" ring over sprung pin and do up. Swap front belt pulley & mounting plate from your old knackerd pump to your new one that you've just made & job done. (little tip for this ancrack all these bolts before you do the rear cover swapp) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The Badger Posted January 13, 2011 Share Posted January 13, 2011 Strangely, yesterday my serptine belt just snapped, so when I went to fit a new one I noticed the whole pump rattling around! (how do you get the viscous fan off when there is no fan belt?), I had to take my wing off to fix a huge dent from hitting a pole a few months eariler, so did this and much faff later got the pump out. Need a new pump, but which one is it? This pump is taken out of a 2.8 TGV Engine, so it has a Brazilian part number on it? Jack Sugden Posted August 3, 2011 Share Posted August 3, 2011 Hi Guys thanks for the info on the thread. I'm new on here this is my first comment lol I still seem to be a tad stuck here though. I'm currently swapping my TD for a Discovery 200tdi I have the NTC8287 PAS pump fitted on the engine from when I bought it but it didn't come with the high pressure PAS Pump to Box pipe, the TD pipe fittings are different so I can't fit those and they are just about £50 new which I don't mind spending if I have to but I was under the impression I could use the TD power steering pump ETC8287 (bango on back) and pipes from the TD engine but when fitting it to the engine the pump and mounting bracket fits the block ok but the TD pulley is only a single V so it won't drive another belt so I need to fit the discovery twin pulley to the TD pump but the end where the pulley bolts to the pump is different and the disco pulley won't fit the pump.
