  1. Is it possible to fit a D1 dog guard to a TD5? I saw something on another forum that suggested you could, but I asked the question to confirm and have had no responses. If what i read is correct then there is a fitting kit available to give mounting points for the dog guard to drop into. Thanks
  2. just ask Steve ... he will keep you right!
  3. Hmm thanks Mr Monster. Looking at it it looks kinda right but as you say the only way to be sure will be to strip it down. The bolts just looks as if they have not moved for a while!! Need to get the WD40 out! I was trying to avoid "wasting" time if someone else had been there already.
  4. I have a genuine LR adjustable towbar (Dixon Bate type) for a D1. As far as I can see it looks like it will all line up correctly for fitment on my D2 (to replace the Witter already fitted). On checking part numbers the D1 & D2 bars are very slightly different - IIRC they are one digit different. Before I go to the bother of stripping the old towbar off - does anyone know if it will fit a TD5? thanks
  5. Thanks. I have been having a play and discovered that I do not need to lock and unlock to get it to work, just press teh unlock button again. It is a bit of a pain, but soemthing that I am sure i will get used to.
  6. Thanks. Confirmed what I thought. Just wanted to make sure it was not going to be a problem.
  7. I was doing some work on the Disco this morning and when I was finished I left it unlocked in the drive for probably 2 hours. When I jumped back in it would not start. I locked it and unlocked and it started first time. Is this a trait of the immobiliser or do I have a problem?
  8. I think you will need to be a little more specific with this one. There are several - depends on year .. Coniston Green Belize Green Epsom Green (Metallic) Tonga Green Are to name but a few - I can think of others I just cant remember he names ath the mo. Also so a search for paint colours, there is a website that has been listed here before with all LR paint colour & codes.
  9. At Billing last year (!!) I bought a pair of full length decals (with mountain scene similar to camel vehicles) for along the door bottoms of my 300. Which I had resprayed in Kinversand Metallic. However, i never got round to fitting the decals and now have a D2 in Epsom. Does anyone have a photograph of this type of black decal (or something similar) on Epsom? I still like the idea of the decal but I am not sure of if the green is too dark.
  10. Thanks forthe answers guys - you have all confirmed what I thought I knew already. So I think breaking is the way to go. Mr Farmer, it does have a very good drivers side sunvisor in grey - in fact with the exception of the driver seat the entire interior is in excellant condition. Even the driver seat is just badly worn.
  11. Sorry another tyre question but I could not find anythign in the search... I have a fairly new set of 235/70/16 BFG AT's on my D1 at the moment. I am thinking about changing to a TD5. Will these tyres fit? (I know the wheels will not but are the tyres themselves ok on a D2)
  12. My N-reg Discovery has been branded as "not worth fixing". The rear body mounts have collapsed, the cross member is badly corroded and the boot floor is going to need replaced. My local independant specialist (who I trsut and have been using for years) recons that it is not worth fixing - It would be a different story if I could do it myself - but my welding skills are not up to it, I am in the middle of putting an extension on the house and we have another baby on the way. So time is tight! So I have been looking on fleabay and elsewhere to see how much parts are likely to fetch. Can anyone give me advice as to how much I could expect to make breaking it. Unless of course anyone knows of a good condition 300 that need an engine transplant - that might be the other option!
  13. Surely this post has demonstated one thing more than anything - there needs to be an area for non spefic LR items - such as Tax, insurance etc - that are still important to the Land Rover owners & Drivers. These are very real issues that need to be discussed. If there were a new section - the mods simply needed to move the threads considered OT into that forum thus those who are interested can discuss and those who are only interested in the tech side have there area too. The downside to this is that it creates more work for the mods. I also think the mods should make more use of the "Merge" function - when we find multiple threads about the same topic - merge them into one. I have seen this done on other forums (or should that be fora?? I am never sure) I am not a fan of locking threads at all. If a thread needs to be locked it must be generating a lot of interest - therefore people must feel it is important enough to post - the only real justification that I can see for locking a topic is if the boils down to two or three people mudslinging or personal insults, and in this situation I would expect that the individuals concerned would have a warning issued (by PM) from the mods. I think in general the mod team here do a very good job and have made LR4x4 THE place to come for technical information / advice. Having been a mod on another site in the past, I know what it can be like and it is very easy for people to criticise without knowing all the facts. However on this occassion i do feel that the way it has been handled has become more of an issue than the closing of the threads - it seems to be a "it's our way or no way" situation from the mods and an apparent unwillingness to consider the feelings of the "masses".
  14. Ah! good idea kitform. Where did you get the clips?
  15. The rear body mounts of my 1996 Discovery have collasped due to corrosion. at present I do not know how far the corrosion has spread .. ie I do not know the condition of the crossmember. So assuming the worst and the cross member is shot .. then what should I do. Fix the tdi - which is running well and has 137k miles or take advantage of the bottom falling out of the market and pick up an early TD5. I am currently building an extension on the house and have a 2nd baby on the way so I do not have time to fix the Discovery myself - it would need to be a garage effort (and I am not sure my welding skills are up to it anyway!). The other major issue is cost - what ever I do I do not what to end up spending good money after bad. (Yeah .. i know .. they are both Land Rovers!!!) How do TD5 running costs compare to the TDI? What are the problem areas of TD5's? What would you do?
  16. Thanks for the details so far, but the vinyl is not coming away from the backing, the whole thing is sagging from the roof. So I need to support the full headliner rather than attach the cover. Sorry if my first description was unclear.
  17. The front section of headlining in my 90 is sagging fairly badly. Any suggestions as how to hold it up? I was thinking about attaching (using something like tigerseal) a piece of wood (maybe 2x1) onto the roof and screwing into the wood. Anyone got any other success stories (or otherwise)
  18. Thanks for all the input. Got word today from my local driveshaft specialist that the prop is done. There was play on the slider lining (I think thats what he called it) and that would be causing the vibration. So got a new one ordered. Fingers crossed that it solves the problem. Tony - I run standard suspension and it is all fairly new and red polybushes all round - thats why I was fairly certain it was not suspension related.
  19. Les, I know the suspension component are all in good order. But what about Diff/transfer flanges.. I have not yet looked but I do not know what I am looking for / how to check them. can you advise?
  20. Thanks Ralph & Les. Les.. How can I check the other components that you mention?
  21. I have been suffering bad vibrations from my 90 at about 50-60mph, they were not coming through tthe steering wheel. So after a post on here, I decided that it was coming from the front prop. I finally got round to pulling off the prop and taking it for a spin tonight. Early indications suggest that the vibrations have gone. So .. do i replace the propshaft or get it re balanced? I have had a look and both UJ's look fine - there is no play in either. What sort of money is likely to be in a prop rebalance?
  22. Thanks Nick, I wanted to make sure I was not barking up teh wrong tree before starting to take props off etc. Cheers
  23. My 200tdi 90 has a fairly bad vibration at around 55mph, it does not come through the steering wheel or seat like a wheel balance issue, it seems to be more prop related - ie it sounds like it is coming from the front & centre (under the dash). It means that I cannot currently go about 55 without getting deafened and really bad vibrations. The handling is not effected in any way. There is no play in the UJ's that I can feel, but I have not yet taken them off for a proper inspection. Could it be a diff problem - what are the symptoms when a diff is on the way out? is it a gradual thing or will it just let go? thanks
  24. I would really like a set of the XS style wheel arch trims on my 300. How ever I have noticed that TD5 versions are more readily available 2nd hand (and I have spotted a Disco in a local scrappy with a set on) Will these fit a D1? Are the wheel arch profiles the same / similar?
