  1. Just as an aside .. try this website.. for all parts. www.thepart.com It is an online stock list for LR main Stealers, it also list parts avail at indy's. I find it useful for comparing prices of genuine vs other. edited to make link a clicky one
  2. In answer to my own question ... yes it is worth taking the cats out! Today I changed the down pipe (simple straight swap), removed the EGR and flushed the intercooler. What a difference!! I think with a little fuel pump tweak it will go very well indeed.
  3. Try running a bead of silicon along the panel gap where the front wing meets the bulkhead. Water tends to run down the screen, through panel gap then through pedal box.
  4. My Defender has developed a problem with the PAS. After driving through puddles (and I dont mean wading - just deepish road puddles) the PAS goes heavy. It seems to be fine in all other ways. I was wondering if it could be the belt?? Any suggestions?
  5. ESR2740 is the UK non-cat downpipe.
  6. Thanks for all the replies. I was unsure as to the compatibility, the exhaust catalogues show the front pipes as completely different shapes. Glad it is a straight swap. Will check out the Steve Parker option too .. I suppose it depends on the condition of the rest of the down pipe. As an aside, could blocked cats cause a significant power loss? The Disco is very sluggish.
  7. I have a blowing exhaust my 1995 300tdi. I had the centre section replaced last week (after failing MOT) as it was more like swiss cheese than an exhaust. However, neither the MOT tester or Exhaust fitter noticed that it was also blowing at the front section. The webbing flexi pipe has almost disintegrated. So the question is.. is a non-cat downpipe a straight replacement for a Cat version or an I going to have to look at getting the downpipe custom made/bodged? I dont really want to have to change the new centre section after less than 1 week. Any suggestions.
  8. Thanks for that, thats is the kind of thing that i am hoping to achieve. Do you have any more pics, esp side on shots? If could you post them or PM me for an email address. Cheers
  9. Certainly looks like it.... anyone got any larger pics of it? (I suppose a PM to Andy is required!)
  10. Following on from my "What colour should I paint it" thread in the Disco section, I am looking for any photographs of S1 Discoveries in G4 Tangiers Orange. I initially thought that Tangiers had been done to death and that I wanted something different, however a few net searches are yet to reveal any Discoveries in Tangiers (except for DII and D3's). So I might just get mine resprayed in G4 orange. I am particularly interested in seeing any 300tdi's in the colour. Thanks
  11. Thanks Ryan. I had a look at Securon, they state that the extenders are not suitbale for use with child seats. I need to find an answer.. or the Disco will have to go
  12. It is possible to fit longer seats belts in the rear of a Discovery ? The ones in my 1996 will not reach around the baby seat... and as I bought the Discovery specifically to allow the family to join me on off road jaunts, it is a bit of a problem!
  13. Thanks for the suggestions All the filters were changed in a service the day before I collected, so I doubt it will be that. I will get the EGR out, flush the intercooler and then think about some fuel pump mods.
  14. My "new" 300tdi Discovery seems very sluggish in comparison to my 200 tdi 90. It is particularly bad when it is cold. It will happily cruise at 70+ but takes a little while to get there and overtaking is .. er... interesting! It still has EGR fitted (although disconnected), however I plan to remove this ASAP. Is there anything else that could be causing this type of fault?
  15. I have just bought a 1996 5 door 300tdi 5 door. It is in fairly decent condition, apart from the usual little patches of corrosion the bodywork is straight. However the paintwork is not that great. (Westminster grey (I think))! A mate has offered to respray it for me. Initially I thought about Tangiers Orange, but I wonder if it has been done to death. So I am looking for other suggestions (with or without pics) of colours that look good on a Disco. This is the 1st attempt at a full vehilce respray, so to make it a little easier I think a solid colour would be better.
  16. Err.... Red!! (sorry!) If you managed to remove the spat in one piece I might be interested in them. Let me know.
  17. I have a second hand injector pump to replace a knackered pump on a 1992 200tdi 90. Will I need to strip down the timing case to change it over? or is there another way fo doing it?
  18. Since I put the 90 back together again I have not had a functioning fuel guage. For the 1st week or so it fluctuated randomly but now it just reads empty So, the question is - how is the fuel guage wired? Does it just go direct from sender to the dial, or is there something in between? I wonder if during the rebuild I have broken a wire somewhere along the line. To test the guage, I was planning to run a couple of wires direct from the sender to the back to the gauge. Would this work? I also have access to a spare gauge so should be able to rule out the gauge fairly quickly.
  19. Hmm Interesting... I hadnt realised England had gained independence from the United Kingdom and started issuing its own passports! I thought news like that would have made bigger headlines.
  20. As part of the rebuild of my 90 I intend to tidy up the spaghetti of wires that have been added over the years for accessories such as fog, lamps, Heated seats etc etc. So I was thinking about putting all the fuses and relays in an auxillary fuse box under the bonnet. So, if I head down the the local scrappy what should I be looking for? Are there any cars that have good fuse boxes for this type of application?
  21. Thanks I spotted the ebay one and was going to ask if Disco pumps were the same. I am a little surprised at the pump going to quickly .. ok it is 1992 - but is has only done 74k miles. What tweaks can be done to the pump?
  22. If the Solenod is removed, cleaned and replaced the problem goes away for a little while (Maybe 50-100 miles) Would this suggest the pump was at fault?
  23. Morning all.... I need to source a replacement fuel injector pump for the 200tdi 90 that I use for work. So, where is the best place to source? Or, how easy it is to overhaul an injector pump (for someone only just above mechanical novice)? The vehicle symptoms are that it keeps running after the ignition is switched off, the lift pump and stop solenoid have both been replaced recently but the problem has returned, leading me to suspect the injector pump?
  24. Just anothe tip (Probably obvious)... When you are rebuilding everything, fit the door before you tighten everything else in place!! I couldnt as my doors were still as the coachworks being painted... what a pain it was refitting them!! Other than that, a TD5 bulkhead can (with a little minor modification with a jigsaw) fit onto a 200Tdi.
