  1. You have put my mind at rest there guys, was starting to get a bit worried with what should have been the simplest of half hour jobs turning into a marathon, thanks all for your input
  2. Right fella, thanks for your time, all the best
  3. Cheers Mike, if I pulled the half shafts and nip it up, would I be able to feel how the bearings are?
  4. Need a bit of help here guys if you can, I've replaced a rear seal on the diff part number AEU2515 all went well, I marked everything as I should, all tightened up nicely, but unfortunately it leaked worse than before, when I got it home, like a thwack I just undone it without marking it, how can I get it done back up correctly without buggering anything up, I've noticed that when you turn the wheels the shaft moves in and out pending which way you turn the wheel obviously because its loose, is what I'm trying to achieve by tightening the flange to stop that in and out movement then maybe just nipping it a bit tighter would that be sufficient enough to not bollox a bearing or is there a torque setting, hope that all makes sense, thanks
  5. I don't know how many of you were interested but here's those photos I promised, hopefully they are clear enough the cotton bud and sim card bit are just to put it all in to perspective and as you can see the thermostat housings are massively different
  6. Yeah it is, very different to what I have on mine
  7. Sorry I haven't got back sooner, I've been grafting today, there's a massive difference in the thermostat housing, same gasket face, and I did have a quick check and the 2281 one does fit, and if I look down the 3mm waterway holes I was on about it almost looks like they're only 5 to 6 mm deep and it seems like it might open up underneath, my trip to Turner's I'm going to ask if they cant be drilled out, (would also get rid of that horrible pitting I was on about) cos on the otherside they are 10mm holes, so somewhere in the casting they change diameter, I'll take some photos tomorrow and post them to you all, I'll keep you posted
  8. Tell you what I do know, which I think L19 brought up on a link he sent me is the hrc2123 water channels as opposed to the hrc2281 channels are to be honest alarmingly tiny, I bought a 2123 head today of a fella, no cracks anywhere but I compared it with the two 2281 heads I have and your talking maybe a 10mm hole on the 2281 and a 3mm hole on the 2123 head, and also a lot of corrosion and pitting around the 3mm hole I'm assuming where the gasket had the 10mm hole, I'm lucky in geography I'm close to Turner engineering so sometime next week they are going to get an hour of me if she doesn't tell me to F&€× off in the meantime, all the best guys, have good weekend
  9. I don't know Monkie, but give me a week or so and I should be able to tell you, a mate of mine, "the pratt" just boiled his defender 200 he's on the case at the moment dismantling it between working and no workshop, when he's finally got it off he wanted to offer it up to one of mine to check, it does have the hrc2281 number on it so we're assuming it is
  10. So looking at what Hurbie put, is hrc2281 a casting number aswell
  11. Ok, the two I have and the one in my wagon is hrc2281 does that ring any bells, cos now I'm even more confused, hope your well, and thanks for getting back once again
  12. On the same subject of 200tdi cylinder heads does anyone know anything about HRC 2123, it's a part number for a cylinder head saying it's for a 200 but can't find bugger all about it, can anyone help
  13. Whilst I understand that a cracked head is a cracked head, I have two 200tdi heads here both with small cracks between the injector and heater plug, nothing between the valves. I've been assured that they can be welded but by the man who's doing the job, is this viable or basically are they scrap. All the best
  14. Fella, do you think that by the picture I posted that my tbox might have a 300 time set up, I've had bugger all to do with 300s and never thought for a minute to look down that avenue, I have a Disco 1 tbox here that has the same mountings as my old 1:6, probably why I was a little lost at the beginning, what your describing sounds quite neat, Iike i said I haven't drilled the casing so I still have the option to change, which I would like more if its right, I'll have a look myself, but if you know better!!!!! Gimme the heads up
  15. Thanks guys, been in the inspection pit most of the day, walked indoors and still looking at the ceiling, right this moment its the most comfortable place with my neck, I did drill the handbrake bracket in the end, to be honest, I was never going to drill the casing, the thought of it made me lose sleep, the tbox is in, seems all good, not that the handbrake is all fitted yet but the bracket is, to be honest, the bad weather and the wife stopped play. I got the tbox from Winchester gears, his names Tom, I'm sure at least some of you would of heard of him ( well hopefully) he's been an absolute star with me over the last few years, never had a problem, and sometimes fellas, I think you might agree, when you get a rapport going with someone who appears, certainly to me to know what he's doing your not going to bollox it up for anything, least of all for drilling a few holes in a 30 to 40 quid bracket, I've had a good few bits of him now, diffs and tboxs and wasn't going to embarrass myself with that. Thank you chaps, I'm made up someone listened, I'll be on your cases soon, Western you might remember my ignition switch problem last May or June when the bloody thing caught fire, this has gone from a small cab fire to a full refurb, should have bought a Toyota, thanks
  16. Thanks again Pat for your input, and when I put my last post, after reading it back to myself I felt a bit of a pratt cos obviously there are differences in mountings, hence the reason I contacted everybody in the first place, and I quite agree about serial numbers, as far as I can make out a, for example, a 20D 1:6 which my original one was, could easily be changed to a 1:2 or a 1:4 which I have now, can quite easily be achieved if you have that knowledge without changing the casings. The whole crux of the matter is I can't find the right bloody handbrake mounting, whilst I respect your opinion about drilling the casing if a I bugger around with with my original handbrake mounting, my cable will still fit and I'm still in with a fighting chance, the only outcome of my small fabrication is I would have to do it again in the unlikely event event of it getting damaged somehow, of in the more likely event of me drilling the holes in the wrong place Once again Pat, many thanks
  17. I'm assuming the fella has sent me the right tbox, it differs slightly from my original one, all the splines seem to be right, mounting points and bolt holes are in the right place he's been good in the past, its going into an 1985 110 with an LT77 gearbox with a 200 disco lump, are there many differences to these 230s, I was on the understanding they are pretty universal
  18. Thanks guys, I have got a plan, with the greatest respect I won't be drilling the casing, I'll chop the handbrake mount around a bit, "cocked up bigger jobs than this" I think it will be the better plan, but got to be honest the original thing was did anyone know of a mount or bracket like this, and believe me guys I have been looking, I still can't find bugger all to fit it, so god & land rover only know, thanks everyone
  19. Thanks again Western, this is a picture of my new tbox with the back mounting bolt holes on the side, hopefully the picture is clear enough, the one that's on my wagon at the moment has them on the back of the rear output shift casing as does another tbox I have, can anybody say if its a later casing on the new one, unfortunately the people I got the recon box from don't go back to work till Tuesday so can't ask them right this minute, hopefully from the photo you can see why I don't really want to drill the casing
  20. Just for the record, did you drill the casing or mess around with the bracket, my new tbox has holes drilled already literally on that corner but on the off side of the box, i think if I drilled the casing it'll probably meet the existing holes then leave an high chance of losing the corner off the case,my actual plan was to mess around with the bracket, don't know how my warranty would stand if I start drilling the casing,
  21. Thanks Sigi & monkie, that's what the plan was if I couldn't get the right bracket, seeing someone else doing what I thought might work is quite a relief to be honest, mind you if I'd balls it up I probably wouldn't of told you lot, thanks to everybody for your input, all the best
  22. I've just had a mate show me that link you sent me Western, I'm useless with tech but page 515 is the same picture in the military book I have, and unfortunately they are not the ones, I'll take some photos when I'm home and post them, if nobody minds to have look I would be grateful
  23. Thanks fella, I could only find two different types myself, I'll have money now says the 3rd you mentioned will be the one I'm after, I've got a military book with all the part numbers but not a civvy book, I'll have to get myself one, happy new year all
