  1. If I put a clutch friction plate in the wrong way round on a 200tdi would I get the gears, it's dropping into gear ok but it engages very low on the pedal, I have spoke to a fella here and he seems to think that if it is the wrong way round it wouldn't go into gear at all, any ideas?
  2. Sorry should have read all of the posts, glad your still with the 200s
  3. Chicken, if you do go down a rebuild for the 200, I have a crank here you can have, it's in good condition, all wrapped up in oiled rags, just pay the postage if that's good with you, need to keep these 200s going, they're going to disappear if we're not careful, but all joking aside your more than welcome to it
  4. Sorry to carry this thread on any longer but a quick question, the gasket between the block and the flywheel housing has a bead or line in blue, it's raised so I'm guessing it might be a seal or sealant set in the gasket,do I go belt and braces and put a silicone bead over the top of that or is it sufficient enough to do the job, it's just that I have used other gaskets like water pump or thermostat without a silicone sealer and they've leaked straight away and always resorted back to a good old tube of gooo. May I also add what tw@t of a job for a poxy 40 quid seal and gasket, we all love a land rover, eh guys!
  5. Good man Hurbie, I wouldn't of known that, it's things like that, that really help, cheers fella
  6. Thanks guys, that's good to know, so literally tap it in, no special tool?
  7. Cheers Steve, I have ordered that gasket aswell, is it as obvious a job as just punching one seal out and replacing it with another, I've read I might need some special tool to get the seal in?
  8. Hello chaps, got oil running out of the flywheel cover on a 200tdi I'm assuming it's going to be the rear seal, I've ordered all the bits from Turners, just wondering other than the obvious is there anything I need to know, to not to cock it up and do the job right first time
  9. Hello fella, like Mike Tom cat says it does sound to me aswell like an head gasket problem, but before you start pulling it all to bits, the lad who does the MOTs on my wagon had some sort of test that you put a cap on the expansion tank and some liquid in a vile attached to the cap, if the liquid turns purple or green, I can't remember what colour it was now it means that you have exhaust fumes in the system and you pretty sure it is the gasket or head, hopefully not the head for your sake. I can't remember the name of the test kit but someone on here is bound to know and my fella only wanted a fiver for the test he did. Just a process of elimination fella. Good luck
  10. I had a recon power steering box 6 months or so ago now, sort of the same problem at first, thing is with these sodding recon people they do like to smother everything in really thick carp paint, that always seems to be wet when you get it cos all the packing is stuck to it, my bleed valve was rammed with paint fella, maybe take it out, give it a clean and go from there, once I done mine it came out that quick it all of a sudden became a two man job, well the wife doing the left to right and me on the reservoir and the bleed screw,
  11. Hello fella, try these people, I've had 3 turbo's done by them now, one was for a 19j that had a cracked casting, God only knows how they sorted it but they did, it worked, not that you could really feel how the turbo benefited the old engine, second for a 200 and third for an old Hitachi 13 ton excavator that's still digging holes with no problems now. AET turbo's in Wakefield, they ain't cheap by a long way, but you know when someone gives a toss about what they are doing and this lot did, even ringing me to tell me progress reports, I'll get my head out of their backsides now, but give them a try, 01924 894171, hope this helps
  12. Although reminds me of being a kid in the pub on a Saturday night trying to pull, you didn't care did you
  13. Hello fella, going to send some photos of what I made ro do my tank sender, but before I do I'm going to apologise for my fabrication skills but this worked and worked well to be honest. It was one of those when you needed the tool and needed it now and not wait 3 days for delivery. I had a load of this pipe kicking around the yard and it fits perfectly over the ring for the sender, I know you'll have to wait this time but I can send you a bit of this pipe and you could make one yourself if you like
  14. Sorry to go on, the MOD numbers are fairly accurate, same as land rover, I think over the course of being married to mine I only come a cropper once on a part number and that was on some silly bracket behind the handbrake lever that nobody wanted to make anymore
  15. Hello Joe, hopefully this will help, basically the same picture that Western put up but with MOD and Nato numbers on it, all the best, Steve
  16. Thanks fella, that's handy to know
  17. I had the same problem and to be honest, quite bad in places, but I was planning on removing all the paint on an old MOD wagon, to many coats of paint to count, green, black, green, sand colour and what ever else came through, no nitromors or any conventional paint stripper was working, I used a stuff called Starchem Synstryp, now whether the fact I didn't stop sanding till it was back to bare metal or this jollop had anything to do with it remains a mystery but I've never had any problems with bodywork since, no rot or powder, I might add it makes the original nitromors look like milkshake, it says on the instructions to wear gloves, goggles, breathing apparatus, I rarely do but with this stuff, it proper hurts, taking lumps out of me, it isn't cheap but I think would just about murder anything that shouldn't be there, but remarkably kind to the metal, hope this helps
  18. Thanks very much chaps, been looking at banjos and unions, some old fuel banjo should work surely as long as its the right thread and as long as its sealed with what, copper washers would work I'd of thought, all the best
  19. No I don't, but aswell don't know enough about it all, thanks for your reply
  20. I know you've all been over this subject a 1000 times before so I'll keep it brief, and yes/no answers will be fine, but basically can I fit a boost gauge in where this bolt is on the intake manifold and if so would I get a better idea of what pressure I'm getting or is it better on the pipe between the FIP and the turbo, All the best guys, Steve
