  1. It is clean and no holes fella, a bit of a wire wheel and a washer tacked to that tag should do the job I reckon
  2. Fella I've got one here you can have, one of the tags has lost its hole if that make sense but the tag is still attached to the pipe itself, a man of your caliber would easy fix it, I'll send a piccy in a while, give me 20 minutes
  3. They can't be fella, I agree, I can see what your saying about the insurance company not wanting the work and pricing it high to get out of it, but I still find it quite annoying, and the poor lad who's trying to get the insurance must be heart broken I should think, perhaps we should all chip in a quid, there's enough people on here to do that, everyone needs a bit of help sometimes, either that or he gives us the idiots number who quoted him that and we could have minute relay on ringing the c@^t asking for defender insurance
  4. Profiteering in my eyes, what a shower, it isn't on is it really! And then they wonder why so many young people don't have insurance, my daughter pays 1800 with the extra for paying it monthly for a 68 plate vauxhall corsa, I nearly choked when she said what she pays a month, shocking
  5. A mate of my daughter, he's got an all singing all dancing disco 1, more modifications than you can shake a stick at, goes with Adrian Flux, he submitted every last mod that he has done to them so they couldn't blag him if he had a claim, he's 22 and pays 700 quid, I realise he's got 5 years on you age wise and been driving 3 years, give them a go 10000 quid, what idiot come up with that quote, would be interesting to know? Good luck with it all
  6. Very close, it was with BBC Scotland for a long time but after the sister vehicle apparently went down to some football tournament in South Africa which the beeb didn't get paid for, they left it down there for some reason, joke's where made that they never had the money to get it back but I don't know how true that is, I think my one finished its days in London, there still a couple of lads kicking around who used to work in it, one a camera man and another fella, God knows what he did, but they were all singing all dancing for the day and cost the BBC a million quid each back then. I'll leave it now, it's a landy forum, I'll get wrong waffling on about this, all the best fella
  7. I know there's a lot of interest in those old OB units, even that old land rover, there's a fella, can't think of his name was given thousands of pounds lottery funded to do a unit, I think number 21 As for my old wagon I think it retired about the time you finished with them, thanks for getting back
  8. Probably almost a certainty, never thought of that one, good shout
  9. How long were you on the BBC fella? It's just that I've got CMCR 17, I've had loads of feedback over the years over the old girl, maybe from colleagues of yours,
  10. Hello fella, I feel your frustration, I had a look at an MOD parts book I have here and the two senders you have part numbers for, the 2505 one is pre 89 and the other one 6663 one is post 89 on a N/A engine but I think you'll find and I'm sure your aware the 19js were very similar, maybe the one you can't identify, and I can't find any pictures or other numbers on it maybe something someone's found out of an old motor in the farm yard for example and put it in, a lot of those threads would of fitted any amount of engines back then and earlier. Maybe an earth is your problem, I don't want to be the one to say its the obvious, I had an issue with a 200 I have and ended up with a new sender that was faulty, that completely threw me til a mate said and try another one, job done, as long as your not over heating is the main thing but I know its uncomfortable drive watching that gauge soar, good luck with it all
  11. I've just had a look at the Maer chassis site, are they only made in Poland? Not that it's an issue but any come backs is going to be a problem, or is there a place here you can go and see? I'm not down the line of a chassis yet, I'm counting my lucky stars with that, and I'm well aware it's coming sometime. This GDI guy sounds good with a few peoples approval on here and other opinions too, so many to choose from which is nice I suppose
  12. Did you, I'm forever more surprised with the stuff from there, got a torque wrench from there a year or so ago now in a panic one Sunday morning after my replacement one from sealey collapsed again, I can't fault it, and an apparent lifetime guarantee, a far cry from puncture kits and BMX and Grifters I know, thanks Stephen
  13. I like those, what a good idea, got to get me some of them
  14. Nice one gents, bit of a minefield out there chassis and related parts, I emailed the fella at GDI and seemed reasonable with his response and only to keen to help, BUT he is selling his wares so it isn't going to tell me they are pony, I appreciate the feedback, good to know, thanks all
  15. Great stuff Maverick thanks, that's good to know
  16. If its been running OK I'd probably stick with the mark as long as it isn't a complete tooth out you'll be OK, I've had the odd engine not quite line up for whatever reason, maybe your photo is like looking at the fuel gauge when your sat in the passenger seat if that makes sense, your not that faraway, but while you have it all apart like Steve b says have a look and the keyway, and if Mike's video your referring to Mike tomcat, I'd do as he says really, fella definitely seems to know his onions, good luck
  17. Hello all, has anyone had anything to do with a firm called GDI products, they advertise on ebay for any amount of chassis bits and bobs and other odds and sods aswell, just wondering if they are any good and the product is what they are saying it is, all the best
  18. I think these were bearmach mounts, I seem to remember the packaging and thinking it was a shame they went under. I know they work, no vibration at all.
  19. Nice price aswell, but I'll stand corrected, disco it up in my opinion
  20. I bought the self same engine mounts off of Emberton imperial and they seem to be ok and no difference in price, definitely worth the extra few quid. I know I'm going to get shot down here, but it's all OK to get an 11L defender engine and god only knows I'd love one, but, and hopefully someone might agree, try and find an exhaust manifold if your one goes, cos nobody is going to sell you the spare one they have on the shelf, along with thermostat housings, for christ sakes be careful when you take that off, plus a few other odds and sods On the other hand, the 12L disco engine bits are a bit more available secondhand, and like Snagger says after market parts are there at a fairly reasonable price, it makes the job a lot easier knowing parts are off the shelf, your choice on the quality you buy, there's a bit more buggering around but that makes it a bit more of a wheeze So my side of the fence is go with the disco lumps, they are quality engines unless you abuse them, same as the 11Ls before anybody yells, just availability of parts, which I've already said makes it nicer and reassuring, that's my last penny in the subject, sorry to go on
  21. I've done 3 of these conversions now, all disco engines, strongly agree with Mr tomcat on the Steve Parkers bit, the manifold is well made as opposed to others on various auction sites, but have a gander at glenn coyne on the web, priceless info, the guys name is Richard, my first conversion I rung him and rung him and rung him again, he never lost his patience once with my silly questions and still in contact with him now, good luck, it isn't as daunting as it sounds, keep us all posted how your getting on, and if you run into trouble there's some clever f@<[ers on here aswell, so I can't see you having many problems once you get at it
  22. Might be wrong here, and sorry if this is a bum steer, but a mate of mine had a similar issue, starting sometimes and other times taking forever, immobiliser would work then wouldn't, it seemed to have a mind of its own, but up behind the dashboard or wherever they maybe on your wagon, but on his there's a line of relays, on a disco 1 they are behind the plastic panel to the right of your drivers foot, one of them was corroded, i dont know how it came around but by luck he was messing around with something else, basically shaking stuff about in his dash, for want of a better description, went to start it and it fired straight away, when it stopped on him the next time and wouldn't start, he said he just, and in frustration pulled and wiggled it all about a bit again and it fired again, after a proper investigation it turned out to be the relay, he spent hours and hundreds of pounds on bits and bobs to get it going and it was a 5 quid relay and terminal that had corroded, I don't know the relevance of the colour of the relays but he had 3 or 4 yellow ones, one of them being the issue, close to others green, black and what ever other colour was there, I know this sounds a bit vague to say the least but he's never had a problem since, give it a go, nothing ventured as they say,
  23. That's what I'm looking at Western, I spoke to a fella I think down your neck of the woods, only because I was looking for someone to dip the block, caustic and what ever else they do, Anderson Racing, near Bath he seems to have a good idea of what he's doing, spoke loads of sense not that I know half of what he said but he's convinced me and I was just agreeing
