  1. It’s not a fast mutator as I understand it so immunity should hold as should the vaccine. The current view is the weather isn’t going to help unfortunately. I think US and Africa are going to have some tough times coming up. I hope I’m wrong.
  2. You can rest assured I have put a great deal of thought into this. So while it is true once’s cases are gone they are gone but how do you know it’s really gone ? The incubation period is 5-10 days and some people show no symptoms. People are infectious without symptoms and super spreaders can infect up to 10 people. So that makes it harder. My last paragraph says you can test and isolate but you have to stay on top of it and keep that going until the vaccine. Strict test and isolate is the first phase of the virus response (Containment) so it’s like being back at the start.
  3. They are right we have been slow but once the lockdown finishes people can still catch it so the same issues exist. The virus remains out there waiting. China is now effectively importing cases as people come back from other places for example. You are going back to the start of the outbreak to a degree. If you can test and isolate that might be okay but you need to be able to stay on top of it with that approach.
  4. I agree, people are saying the sooner we get locked down the sooner we get through it, but lockdown is to draw it out and flatten the curve. The spread rate is exponential, the incubation period is 5 days or more and then another 2 weeks to get complications. So applying the lock down brakes now wont take effect for a couple of weeks. So heath service can cope now but it’s all still going up for the next couple of weeks. Then we hold but there isn’t much of an exit strategy until the vaccine this time next year. Those that have been infected and have the antibody test go back to work and at risk people stay at home still. China is starting to ease restrictions but with 60% immunity it’s all possible to get a second wave. if the testing and control is really good that may be manageable and prevented.
  5. Human nature covers both sensible reasonable considerate action and selfish idiotic action. By all means do activities (I certainly am) , reading, planning, sensible exercise, light tidying. Chances are you do run into a job that is better with two, so all possible safety measures aren’t open to you, so just stop right there and don’t do it move on to something else. Be the sensible human nature. I’ve got a couple of cupboards that could do with being downstairs. Am I going to move them this weekend (or anytime soon)? Hell no.
  6. Yeah I know, it’s just 3 weeks as that seems manageable and then once we are in the groove just 3 weeks more and so on. Like at a restaurant when it’s just 10 minutes until a table is free and then just a little more. Still a Doctor coming off another 12 hour shift dealing with multiple deaths isn’t going to want to be spending time stitching people up that couldn’t put them first when considering which activities needed doing.
  7. why are you “bound to tackle stuff on your own rather than waiting for a mate ?” Just don’t do the job now - most Land Rover jobs take years anyway - just let them wait a couple more months. If it is a critical job (it isn’t) then phone a mate while you do it or WhatsApp from your phone. We have plans in place that describe who lives and who dies in the event there is a shortage of ventilators. People need to wake up and take this very seriously and not be doing jobs they don’t need to be doing. All you need to do is sit on the sofa for 3 weeks to save lives.
  8. And also do this all other times as well. Your eyesight and other important bits are worth saving outside of pandemics too. 🙂 Really the question is at the moment do I really need to be picking up a grinder right now ?
  9. Well exactly but some things are more likely than others so it’s just a question of keep it all extra safe at the moment and yes some unexpected stuff will still happen but we should keep that at a minimum.
  10. There is safely and absolutely no chance of injury and they are not the same thing. This is a numbers game across everybody. Many people think they are doing things safely, not everybody is right. (Either wrong assumptions or just unlucky). I’ve been messing about under the Land Rover and got some small metal in the eye that was a trip to the hospital. Now is not the time for that. Pretty sure (almost) no one wakes up and thinks, ah yes I have that job to do today that will means I will have to go to A & E afterwards and yet still see people on there and not just because they are accompanying Nige 🙂
  11. Overall I’m pretty impressed with the Government. Stopping a whole country for 3 weeks takes some doing but at the high level looks right and then sort out further details as they can. I think the “war on ‘x’” term is overused but not here. We are at war with this virus and we need to not give the enemy any advantage we don’t have to.
  12. Some key workers cycle to work so banning cycling won’t go well. Just think think do in need to be doing this and what’s my risk factor if I do. If I get into a spot of bother (injury, breakdown) I’m potentially bringing other people into and putting their family at risk. Nobody wants to do a job and get an injury but diy accidents were something like 87,000 last year and now is not the time for things that can go wrong. Just re-watch project binky. 🙂
  13. we all need to be staying away from each other. Staying off work with nothing wrong with you is the best way to stay that way.
  14. That’s such a Land Rover owner response. 🙂 You can take my freedom but not my garage time !
  15. Fun as that is I’m pretty sure kitchen roll doesn’t break down like toilet roll so might not be a total solution unless you are running it through a shredder before it gets in the system. https://www.lanesfordrains.co.uk/domestic/help-advice/drainage-problems/what-you-can-and-cant-put-down-the-drain/ Although it might seem like an easy thing to do, you should avoid flushingwet wipes, kitchen roll or anything other than toilet roll when in the bathroom; the same also goes for cardboard toilet roll tubes, cotton buds and dental floss.
  16. Much of the Media is just there to poke people with sticks. If we didn’t have daily empty shelves pictures how much less panic buying would we have? Much of the Media pour petrol, fan the flames and then near gleefully report elderly and NHS workers in tears as they can’t get any food. Anything apparently fair game to sell a few more papers.
  17. Yes you have to keep up with the guidelines and yes that makes it more tricky. Lockdown is about the timing. Too early and everybody is safe but the virus is still out there and the economy grinds to a halt. Once everybody comes out they all get the virus, too late and the NHS is overwhelmed and people die that with access to medical assistance would have survived. So we went in a little lax but the curve is well on the up so it’s time to really get the brakes on the spread. It’s let’s get really serious time now. Going outside to remote places is sort of the right idea but if everybody has that idea then it’s wrong idea. No point walking around for 4 hours to go and catch it off the gate handle to the car park or the person in front of you on the take away queue. Doctors will be killing themselves trying to save people how about we just stay away from each other for a few months ?
  18. Idiot behaviour should get called out. Yes sometimes sensible actions get caught up with muppets which is unfortunate but Snowdon hug a thons are not sensible. Really people can’t be trusted so let’s stop trusting move along to rationing and martial law.
  19. Not us though. Having three years worth of parts to hand for a Land Rover owner is standard practise at all times.
  20. Looks it’s not on the public highway, it’s on the moon:
  21. So I want to like the post about you putting a reply together and contacting you MP but I don’t want to seem I am liking the dvla have provided a rubbish photo and are being awkward. I have provided a video of a success story with which you may wish to base your reply on :-).
  22. Ah the men behaving badly approach - ”Isn’t that illegal?” ”yes, but so are a lot of things” Surely where cars and pedestrians (both of which can make mistakes ) mix closely having the cars travel at largely non fatal speeds isn’t that bad an idea ? Granted the requirement for simplicity means you and in front of school parked cars both sides 30 mph and quite wide and good visibility 30 mph in the same law but overall it’s the right idea I would say. And same for the chassis rule it’s the right idea but sometimes for the simplicity of enforcement means what might seem okay is not legal.
  23. I’m trying to think if I pick the same holes up (front or back and extend) or need a couple of mm for the seat to clear the door and need some rails to give me a little move over. Especially the drivers with the buttons on.
  24. I’d be interested to see how long it takes. Often you have to publish worst case numbers that it can take but really most are done quicker and shouldn’t be too hard to get them on the cloud for people to check for mistakes on. It’s not like they have to pop to Boots to get copies made from the negatives and mail those 🙂
