  1. I donn't 'think' its that difficult, its just that they want to check that the vehicle that has the new(must be BRAND new) chassis is the same vehicle that was in use with an old one, and not one thats simply been put together from bits accumulated from any old place........... read the bit under 'other changes'..... http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/ChangesToYourRegistrationCertificate/DG_4022054
  2. I asked richards today if they were able to stamp my existing number into the chassis before it went for galv, they said they cannot legally do it...........................
  3. There must be plenty of people that have.................... i'm watching with interest too, today i ordered my new chassis........ and i'm currently looking at the options of a private plate for it.............!!
  4. When i actually 'do' the swap i shall have a thread going with progress.... i'm gonna lift the whole body up in one lump, so not the most common way, but apparently one that works.......!
  5. Well, i rang richards today, and she quoted 160 quid plus the vat for delivery, so thats the way i'm going, its never worth all the agro to save a few quid, i'd rather spend a day in bed than kill myself for next to nothing........ 4-6 weeks and i'll have a new chassis, i'll still wait to change it over xmas, as i have 3 weeks off anyway....!
  6. I think the new chassis's are about 200kgs......... therefore even with an axle and wheels etc, 750 is way more......... And........ my back is already not great, so doing 500 miles in standard LR seats is less than an ideal way to spend the day........ driving the truck back from lake windemere when i bouth it was enough to tell me that...LOL!!
  7. Well, my time will in essence be free, as i'm getting three weeks with no work over xmas due to my boss going to africa........ so i won't be losing pay to collect it........ just the cost of fuel etc... and a crate of beer for the lend of a trailer maybe... trouble is, all three of the trialers i've been offered are too big and heavy to drag behind the beemer, and i really don;t want to do 500 miles in the 90..... what i;'d also like is to have started the strip down by the time i collect the chassis anyways..............
  8. splashing the cash again Rog...............LOl
  9. I'll talk to richards tomorrow if i get a chance, and see what they say about delivery............... However, i am tempted by the bolting an axle on option............. cos there's no way it would weight 750kg, and i would clearly have a light board etc......... although possibly not mud gaurds......mmm
  10. If it would only cost that, i wouldn;t even be thinking about other options......... i don;t think anyone would deliver something as big as a chassis 250 miles away for that............!
  11. Right, at some point in december i will be collecting my new chassis from richards.. i have been thinking about the options for getting it home.... 250 miles......... Option one, rent a pick up for a day, (or two) and just dump the chassis on the back..... Option two. borrow a trailer, and tow it up and back behind the defender..... 500 miles round trip, towing.... ie, long way!! option three. try to borrow a smaller trailer, (ie lower gross weight) and tow it behind my 5series beemer.... option 4, make an A frame that would bolt onto the front af the chassis, fit a rear axle, and tow it home behind the beemer...! i guess option 3 would be the ideal, less cost etc.... but still towing all day! option 4 is do-able, but is it worth the effort..! your thoughts....!
  12. Unless its a cardon prop fitted on the front, in which case the double jointed bit goes on the transfer box end......
  13. Cool, so technically, dvla won;t insist that it is destroyed........... thats basically what i was getting at.........!
  14. So i take it that it wouldn;t ever be re-useable as part of another vehicle then..??? even if that vehicle was once complete given a Q plate.............. Seems a shame to have to destroy it, as i'm sure that whilst i think it's knackered, to someone it would be salvagable and repairable.........
  15. A simple one really, i'm gonna swap my knackered old chassis for a nice new shiney galv one, once i've told dvla that i've changed it, assuming they have no issues with it, what happens to the old chassis.... can i keep it?? but it'd just have no identity..???
  16. Well, got the bearing, got it out of the cover, but ended up smashing the flange the fan pulley bolts to.......... so now gotta find another cover, or buy a new one at £170 odd quid.....
  17. What,................ what a stupid design change then, for something which they should know fails regularly..!! On my 300, the master cylinder started dripping on the floor one day, i fitted a brand new cyclinder the next day, 2 drives later the slave went, changed that, then a day later the actual clutch started slipping cos of the fluid (i guess) in the bellhousing..... it could just be a fluke........ so guess what, i fitted a new clutch on saturday, 7hrs start to finish, engine out and back in,.......
  18. Thanks............ i've actually just found and bought one on ebay, £60............. but a lot better than the cost of a new cover!! all i'll have to do is get the old one out without cracking the cover now, else i'll be stuffed.......LOL!! Cheers.
  19. HI, i have a nasty squeek, it isn;t the tensioner, thats new, its the bearing that sits behind the actual fan housing on the fornt cover, can the bearing be bought seperately, or do i need a new cover..??? I've just looked up the cover, and i don;t wanna pay that!!!...LOL!! Cheers.
  20. Did you check your steering damper..........?? sounds like it could be full of crud! and therefore restricting travel!
  21. Apparently, the day is only open to 'road legal' vehicles, i therefore assume taxed and mot'd/........... i suspect this is due to the type of MSA permit the day will be covered by.... Sorry.
  22. Dorset Land Rover Club ltd are having a driving day on 31st October, open to all makes of 4x4, There will be onsite catering, and free recovery. For further details http://www.dorsetrover.co.uk/content/somerley-park-open-4x4-day or reply/pm me........... Ron.
  23. Phillip. the 3500KG is not a 'train weight'........... thats what you CAN TOW behind a defender..................... assuming as above, that the trailer is rated to do so!
  24. All the bits can be bought direct from D44....................!
