  1. its a tough one, do you know which company made it..??? If it was me, (and i know its maybe not the 'right' way to do it, but as there are no numbers, i'd say build it, and use it............
  2. Does the galv chassis you have, have a chassis number on it..??? if it does, then you really need to use the identity that that chassis has already been used with, however, if it doesn;t have a number, i would say (and this is my opinion) that you could use it along with your registration......... lots of people will have different views no doubt, at the end of the day its your choice
  3. Nothing wrong with allmakes stuff..........................!
  4. The flexi is like a conertina.... it has multiple rings as it were, allowing it to flex, i understand that the mesh is there to kind of stop it flexing too much........ the flexible bit isn't critical, and in fact the non catted front sections don't appear to have flexis.... if yours breaks, simply buy a decat one for £20.... and gain more performance aswell..
  5. You can fit the drop arm off a disco aswell, they have a track rod end instead of the daft ball joint thing.... you'll need, the arm, the drag link, (tube that goes from the steering box to the NS front wheel! and of course the track rod end for the box end.......... oh, and it means that your steering damper won;t fit on there either, but you can relocate that to behind the axle as per the disco if you like.......
  6. £k would indeed pay for a conversion, however, the budget i suspect won;t be 3k if he doesn;t sell the existing v8 disco....
  7. It simply has to be a film prop, the military would want even a prototype to be better built than that, i mean, the 'cage' has no triagulation what-so-ever..... it would simply fold flat if you leant on it.... and i mean, its even sporting a FORD grill!!!!!!!!!!!!! the guy selling it either has a very good imagination, or he got conned when he acquired it...... and as for his wording in the listing, its a joke...! If anyone is near Bridgewater or Taunton in somerset, they might wanna make contact with him and go for a look....LOL!!
  8. Simon............. have you thought about asking David Bowyer..??? he might be willing to 'buy' the idea!!
  9. Indeed......... which means less cold starts, which makes the engine more economical, and means less wear....... so what fuel you use heating it up you probabl;y save in warm up time..... I have a webasto on my 530d beemer..... only i disconnected it cos the brain told it never to switch off.... and it was draining the battery...!
  10. I wondered if it could be just one of the wheels at fault, and maybe that wheel was fitted to the rear of the mates truck..... hence the issue wouldn;t show up.,..???
  11. I would have though that having power steering should make no difference, it still has the steering box in the same place, still uses the same basic components to actually 'do' the steering, and i doubt that if you didn;t actually tell the inspector that they'd even know it didn;t have it before..!
  12. Any idea how much a body off a '90 van' would weigh..?? nothing in the back, front seats etc to stay in it, front wings etc to stay attached....... Just rethinking my re-chassising ideas and how to go about it.... might hire a gantry instead of using a telehandler...
  13. Very interesting, so i could potentially save myself the cost of the telehandler, as i work for a bulider and i'm doing the swap while he's away over xmas, i'm sure i could persuade him to let me borrow a load of scaffold tubes and clips....... afer-all, he won;t be using them will he...LOL! Be good to see some pics.......
  14. Another trick in this situation is to press the clutch pedal, you won;t want to do it more then once, or the piston in the slave will get pumped out, but the force on the clutch might just be enough to force the engine off the box......
  15. I asked Richards only last week if they could stamp my number into the new chassis i ordered, and they said it can't be done, as its illegal... so how come they did yours..???
  16. I'd be interested in how you went about it, i plan on doing mine over xmas, how did you lift the body?? i have bought another pair of bulkhead/windscreen brackets to drill right through, make some lifting eyes, and use a piece of 50x50 thickwall tubing under the rear floor for a lifting point at the rear, add one telehandler, and hey presto...... then swap everything over, and reverse the above........LOL.... sounds easy!
  17. True, however, the mere fact that Land ROver have offered to pay half, is them admitting liability...... if you get it fixed at an independant, LR won;t then be offering anything next time round.... god forbid it should happen again, but it is after-all a land rover.... so anything is possible...! for the sake of £100, i'd rather have land rover do it, and have their warranty on the job....
  18. Simmonites for one.............. you'll have to make sure you ask specifically for that offset though, in case they do the 'standard' modulars which are indeed 7mm...... Oh, mine are 7inch wide if that makes a difference!
  19. I use 0 offset modulars,......... i have so much lock that the caliper hits the axle casing before the tyre hits the radius arm.............
  20. Just sent a tenner, will do it again when i get another prod!! Thanks for making the forum what it is guys, all those of us that use it are i;';m sure grateful for all the work that goes on in the background, we just maybe don;t say 'thanks' enough!! either in words, or financially..!!
  21. In the real world my 530D estate is most definatelt up to the job, however, the law says something different......... i have several offers of borrowning a car trailer, but as the trailers are rated with a gross weight in excess of what the car is legally allowed to tow, it means its illegal for me to tow that trialer, EVEN EMPTY!! how stupid is that!!!.. but thats what the law says, and 500 miles is too far to risk it!!
  22. Yes i have ordered it, i have spoken to several people that have done chassis swaps, and pretty much all have said that richards is the better product, i'm sure there is actually nothing wrong with anyones elses chassis's, but the fact that richards redrill the holes etc is good enough for me....... and the lead time is less than i was expecting, plus it gives me time to find the money...LOL!!
