  1. I'm not bothered about 'genuine'.......... i'm also not too fussed about economy, i only do about 2500 miles per yr in my truck as it is now, so i might aswell have what i want........... I was just wondering if there's another 90 vehicle that uses the right gearbox for a v8.... or was it specific to the v8....
  2. Hi all, I could use some info if thats possible............ I currently have a tricked up discovery, but fancy a proper land rover, ie, 90..... I also fancy the idea of a v8 on carbs..... what is the best gearbox to use for such a beast, as if i can't find one as is, i could change it to suit my needs..... so which base vehicle is the best starting point for such a toy... petrol.. diesel...?? does it depend what gearbox is already in it, or are the ratios different for petrol/diesel anyway...??? Many thanks., There are probably a hundred more things i should ask, but i can't think at the moment..
  3. This can also happen if your handbrake cable is starting to seize.......... sometimes the cable holds the lever up, and hence the light stays on....
  4. Notice how many people rushed over to see if the drivers head was still intact after the kerr went through his rear window......!!!! Thats why i tend not to use them, i would say though, that if using a rope or strop, take the strain before pulling, don;t let them snatch...... thats when any damage will occur if it's going to.....
  5. I only get about 20mpg from my 300tdi with 235/85's and all the kit bolted to it, including the big intercooler and egr blanked......... some people get more, but i am just heavy footed......
  6. yeh, cold chisel and big hammer, ten mins to do the lot..... there are i think four spot welds on each, the bottom ones can be ground clean with a grinder if needed, but i doubt you'll need to.....
  7. I simply use the tyre inflator off my compressor...... not available when you're out though i guess,...............
  8. It would seem that there are after-all many different options....... shame the OP didn't know of the alternatives before he spent near on double what he need have....

  10. Forget it, if we're not allowed to have a joke, i'll live with the whine, it's easier.....
  11. Just repolace d abroken rear diff in my disco, have fitted a four pin one i got on the bay, however when i lift off the gas, it whines a bit, there's nothing broken in it, and it seems to be in good condition, no chipped teeth etc, and not set too tight either, as there was very slight movement between the pinion and ring gear.... Any ideas....??
  12. Changing the diffs will have NO effect, THEY'RE THE SAME RATIO!!! I keep getting told i should fit a defender t box in mine, appaarently it will just make it easier to drive, no slower either....
  13. Sorry, just read the link and realise dit was irrelavant...oops!!
  14. I had to remove the gaitor, and actually remove the transfer box selector from the top of the box, put it ina a vice and get quite angry with it.....LOL.... as the shaft is steel, and the housing aluminium........ hence they corrode......
  15. My opinion would be that the spring would need to be so strong so as not to flatten, that you'd never get it our when the pipe was tight onto it...
  16. Don;t know where it is, but the car is a ford Model A (maybe a B ) i believe....... can tell by the wheels!!
  17. My 300tdi is hellishy hard to get from 1st to second when it's cold, even worse in this colder weather!
  18. I've now been to Moab twice, went ona hummer tour last yr, OMG........... Not yet got around to hiring a jeep and going off on my own, always a bit apprehensive about lack of phone coverage etc...... plus knowing you're in exactly the right place ..... one day maybe... Can highly recommend Colorado, Pikes peak is awesome!! There are some amazing areas, most of them not really on the maps.... garden of the gods in colorado springs is quite special, and almost at the foot of pikes peak.....
  19. Surely it's a little odd if the problem is still there even with tubes in them,.......... they wouldn't go flat by pushing the beads off would they..????
  20. make sure you keep the ujs regularly greased..... i had one on my old truck and even though i greased it what i thought was often enough, the uj's failed far too quickly...... hence i now have the cardon one on the new truck...LOL
  21. You will probably find that the cable is too tight in the outer, could be full of mud or just grime, best remove the cable and spray copious amounts of wd or similar into it.....
