  1. Yeah I will reccommend that he tries it (Nothing to loose) and certainly report back. Cheers Ryck
  2. Yes. However a word to the wise as one of our group this weekend found out on our tightest lane. This being that should u potrivet the snorkle top to the main section to prevent it growing legs in the night. Then be prepared that when its ripped off both it and the main section are fairly well mangaled espically if you compound the problem by driving over your snorkle top afterwards . On a serious note though does anyone know if safari use a memory plastic, as I read somewhere that it can be heated back into place? Cheers Ryck
  3. I have had no issues with my southdown one either performance or with the quality of the pipe/mounts its been really tough. However if you do decide to go down the B&Q style build your own then you can get southdown tops from their ebay store directly to finish it off if you want that style. Cheers
  4. Irrespective of the plastic I wouldnt touch it as the non rotateable head means that driving in heavy rain you will probably get water down it and into the airbox - cue rusted air filter or worse (I made the mistake once with my southdown one when I forgot to rotate the head around) Personnally I dont think u can beat a southdown snorkle, I have one from their seconds store on ebay, cost about the same and is superb, Much slimer and better fitting in my opinion. Cheers Ryck
  5. Sounds like a bearing. I had the same on the back of my discovery, found it was the bearings that had gone loose. Hope this helps. Ryck
  6. I have heard only positive about terrafirma shocks in general. I would be interested to hear how you get on though as we are looking to replace dads standard 90 shocks with the terrafirma gas shocks this summer when we do the suspension on that. Cheers Ryck
  7. Sounds about right. When dad did mine whilst I was away at uni it was straight fwd apart from the nut on the waterpump which wasnt very co-operative so pack a big socket set as with any landrover job. Best Wishes Ryck
  8. Cheers for all your replies. This has been really helpful to see how you all have your setup. @ Fantic & RaDi90Hyrid you are using the same mount however I mounted mine up above the guttering and I think it was this up high mounting that caused the aerial to cop it as the thunderpole aerial I was using of dads the thunderpole Orbitor (http://www.thunderpole.co.uk/orbitor.htm)was sitting above the rear line of the roof. I think now looking at it the best option may well be to mount it on the rear wheel, however with the spare tyre there and the potential sway of the the aerial Im not to sure of the SWR reading as well. Reading Pinn76's post above I think that is the route Im going to take to get the aerial into the centre of the roof at the back (most protected) and if it does cop it then I will most likely fabircate some mount on the back of the spare wheels mount when I renew it in order to better take my spare tyre with the devon wheel holder as my current spare is brushing the rear bumper when you open it. I will try and post some pictures of my setup and the results tomorrow for reference. Many thanks for all your help. Ryck
  9. Hi Guys I’m looking for ideas to re-do my CB mount for the outside of the car as the setup I took out on Monday which used one of dads defender style mounts didn’t last the course on the low and tight vegetation. I was using one of the thunderpole side mounts (http://www.thunderpole.co.uk/cb_radio_fixed_body_mounts.htm second one down) mounted on the top left of the car where a pervious owner had used a simple bracket of some sort - I believe for a CB as well. Still this mount didn’t last and I had to remove the CB aerial near the end as it was hanging at a rather interesting angle. I have had a look around the thunderpole site and am leaning towards one of these http://www.thunderpole.co.uk/intek-mag-1345.html. I only need the thing for convoy duty on greenlanes and being a student being able to remove it whilst on campus and in town would be very useful with on street parking. Does anyone have any experience with these kind of mounts; do they give decent coverage? do they last the course? Cheers Ryck
  10. Cheers for that, some good news at last then. Looks like that money will be going towards some new wheels and tyres. Many thanks. Ryck
  11. Hi Guys, just an update and to say thanks for all your help. Turns out that it was the rear load bay light which is obscured by my store box in the back but had been knocked onto on, hence the 0.5 amp or so power drain that was being recorded. Needless to say this light is no more and the power drain is down to 18 milliamps which can be attributed to the clock and all is in order now I have also checked the alternator out and the battery on holding charge in the morning. The alt is good but the battery this morning after yesterdays laning was down to 12.8 volts so I may well looking into a new battery espically for the winter as this one is over 18 months old when I brought the car. Does anyone have any battery recommended batteries for discos? Cheers Ryck
  12. Cheers DrT - I think I will go down that trial and error route, are there any circults that you would start with? Bogmonster - How would I test that? Discontect the alt at the back and recheck the drain with an ammeter in line as mentioned above? Cheers
  13. Hi all. Having some issues with my discovery 200tdi 1993. Went to turn it on after being left for 3 or 4 days and it was as flat as a pancake with none of the usual culprits left on i.e. the headlights. Only this was the indicator which wouldn’t have kept running once the keys came out the ignition? Either way I had the RAC man out who swiftly revived it and did a few checks. Alternator is fine pushing out about 14.5 amps as when I put it on last Easter but there is a mysterious power drain from the battery when the car is turned off of about 0.5 amps which would explain why the battery which is only a stock sized one was dead after the 3/4 days I left the car. Has anyone had any experience of this, either through fixing a similar fault or ideas about what it could be? At the moment I have disconnected the battery which is ok for now but not something I want to do long term for sure. Thanks in advance. Ryck
  14. Does it come on after a tight long bend or up/down hills? My 200tdi does this sometimes when the tank is around 1/3 full as the sensor is in one corner of the tank and the fuel is being pushed to the otherside as the car corners or ascends/decends the hill. Normally stays on for around 20 to 30 seconds afterwhich is goes out. Cheers Ryck
  15. Thats odd as mine is also on 24 spline right at the end of the 200tdi run and it does have all the mounting brackets for the anti roll bars which look to be factory fitted. Maybe they where a factory spec'd option right at the end of the 200tdi run?
  16. I have one of the last 200tdi's from August 1993 on a JA chassis and that did come fitted with antiroll bars from the factory I believe as they where removed by the previous owner on the front and myself on the rear. Regards Ryck
  17. Same here, I run some 235/85 R16s Trac Edge's on the standard land rover steel wheels - It fits very well with the wheels moving nicely into the arches on full articulation and certainly gives an improvement all around compared to the 235/70 R16s that I had before hand. The only downside is the slightly less direct steering and that it does struggle up the steeper hills due to the gearing sometimes. Cheers Ryck
  18. I have just had very good experiances dealing with Adrain Flux for my insurance on a modified disco as a 19 year old. Came in siginificantly cheaper than any others and they knew what I was on about on the phone as opposed to a lot of insurers who wont touch modifications and young drivers at the best of times. As mentioned above having a parent driver on as a named driver is a good way to reduce your preminum by around 15% as is increasing your excess or keeping it off the street/in a locked garage. Hope this helps Ryck
