  1. Cracking write up and stunning photos! Looks like you had an awesome trip! Cheers
  2. Yes trailwise acts as an interpreter so to speak and is based upon the OS mapping from a few years ago and occasionally has additional information for example TRO details or documents regarding to cases on a certain lane, it is a good tool to use within a suite of other tools but the main resource that you will be drawing on will remain your OS map so needs to be suplimented with other sources. I do believe there is a direct link to use trailwise without a login so I will take a look for that. Did you get my PM Dazwell? Cheers Ryck
  3. Fantastic to hear that another young driver is looking to get a landrover as opposed to a eurobox. I myself am 20 nearing 21 and a university undergrad. From my experiance with regards insurance I would go for a defender/series 3 style Land rover due to the slighly lower insurance grouping at 9 compared to the Discovery like mine is 12. This has lead me to issues with getting onto some of the cheaper classics policies that can be used by those on defender. Footman james has a cut off of insurance group 10 upto the age of 21 or 25 (I cannot remember of the top of my head) I would however play around with the figure because whilst a defender style landy is possibly cheaper to insure it may be outweighed by the cost difference or your personnal perference. For myself the Discovery was very cheap and also is best suited for my needs compared to a defender. Others things I would point to reduce insurance is membership of clubs/organisations as a lot of the more specialist companies will offer discounts for members of MSA/Glass/whatever clubs and this can reduce your premium by a fair chunk as well as effectively giving you free membership. All the best Ryck
  4. Did it come out of a Range Rover with a Borg Warner transfer box, in which case the front prop from that range rover will be about 2 inches longer as the borg warner is a short box from front to rear than the LT230. Cheers Ryck
  5. It is a very tricky area to know your rights and what you can/cannot drive on and there are some interesting cases with some of your lanes in gloucestershire that I discovered over the summer. I am based right at the bottom of Worcestershire so your welcome to come out with us when we next make a run locally or drop me a line with any questions on lanes you think are driveable and I will do my best to answer. What you driving at the moment? All the Best Ryck
  6. I got a set of heavy duty marine style ones down in Falmouth, cost me about £15 and they have been superb and come in a carry bag that though a little tight on space putting them in does keep them arranged nicely ready to spring into action. They are long enough for all the jobs I have had to do including jump starting an L322 from my Disco. Cheers
  7. As a non Land Rover item but perhaps an even more essential bit of kit howz about getting yourself a really decent softshell or full gortex coat and some top notch waterproof trowsers/boots if you don't have them already? I have a columbia softshell jacket that I got earlier this year and wouldn't be without that or my for that matter Gillett now!
  8. Personnally I have seen some rather nice looking D2 heavy duty bumpers on ebay and the like with built in fog lights like those on the later facelifted D2's. So I would go for that as I doubt there will be much difference in cost and you will get all the benefits of the HD bumper. Cheers
  9. Cheers for that, I to have similar issues with my sieve of a discovery so will certainly check that out once it stops hammering it down outside Cheers
  10. I have a set of Insa Sahara's on my Disco that I use off road and for the price I cannot fault them! They grip very well espically in heavy mud and they drive well on the road and aren't really that noisy unless you have the windows down at speed. Personnally I would buy them again no worries for what I use them for and am even considering keeping them over an option to switch to BFG MTs as a hand down due to what would happen if I was to damage a BFG badly instead of an Insa. Cheers Ryck
  11. Yeah it seems to be there/not there and I can always just up the music volume a little. Its at its most prononced when I come upto roundabouts/junctions and am slowing down. I think I will check the gearbox and Tbox oil levels (not that there should be any issues with those as they where only checked 2.5k ago when the box went in there)and just see what happens over the next few months. Cheers Ryck
  12. Yeah I am suprised as well, I have found some documents on the valeo site about such noises and virbrations that appear to indicate from skim reading that it is often a misalignment or a lack of grease that is causing the additional operational noise and that on inspection there is no lasting effect on the release bearing and that in their opinion failure is highly unlikely. It was better this morning though most of the noise is in first and second getting higher as I go up the gears so I think I will just run it till I go back home and take the box out their, If all else fails there is always the RAC Cheers all. Ryck
  13. I have just started to have the same kind of noise eminating from the bell housing in the final miles of getting back to uni, there used to be a drone but its very much a squeak now which is annoying as the clutch was replaced by a genuine valeo one only in april. My question is not how long will it last (string and length spring to mind) but what will happen when it fails? Will I just be left with no drive or will I be stuck in gear? Cheers Ryck
  14. Personnally looking at the prices earlier for props as we are thinking of getting a "spare" pair to swap on and off our cars then I would got for a new pair as I doubt after a pair of new UJ's (non britpart) and a recon that there will be anything in it or indeed that it will be more expensive. Cheers Ryck
  15. I would got with an All terrain tyre for road use and the light laning etc, They may cost more per corner but the performance will be much better and the depth of tread will lead to a better life so you actually pay less per mile in the end. I would go for either - BFG AT (as above) - General AT2 - Coopers SST or STT (I cannot remmeber which is the AT and which the MT of the top of my head) For your position I would chose those that sit best with your budget as they are all very good (perhaps BFG are the best)but conversley they are the most pricey. Hope this helps. Ryck
  16. Blue is normally BM whilst Yellow is commonly our favouite suppliers of quality parts for land rovers or OME which is a bit of a contrast I would take the spec of the spring as above and mail BM to see if they get back, or take those details and measure a few at a local BM stockist. Cheers Ryck
  17. I have been for the last 2 years as a Marshall with Borg and will be there again tomorrow and sunday. I hear from the setup where dad is (alas it was work for me today ) that it is much wetter and rather muddy compared to previous years which should be gd for the course. Cheers
  18. Yes, Thankfully me OME springs compress up very nicely so the other side can gain drop out. As for the shocks bottoming out in normal use or in articulation I haven't had any issues with mine as I found that OME springs are pretty high for a 2inch lift so pair well to the +4 pro comp shocks as +2 OME shocks are really rather short being about an inch shorter than +2 pro comps. Cheers
  19. If you have +2inch shocks and +2 inch springs you are probably not getting much in the way of dislocation because there isn't enough stroke in your shocks as you have lifted springs taking up the excess shock stroke over stock shocks. Personnally I would fit a +3 or +4 shock onto it to get the extra travel. But be aware that different brands ideas of +2 of +4 inch shocks are different, just put the shorter +2 OME shocks next to the +2 pro comp items to see. I presently run +2inch OME springs with +4 pro comps on the back of my discovery and that has plenty of drop out and still pushes well up into the arches such that I need a pretty heavy camel cut running 235/85 R16 Hope this helps Ryck
  20. Indeed I have seen several solid trucks that if I wasn't an emppoverished student I would certainly consider very strongly. Also just reading that it states "forgot to mention its only been resprayed about 3 week" I'm assuming this sentance should finish by saying weeks ago in which case I would be very interested to see if it was in any way a relation to Elma before it was sprayed Cheers Ryck
  21. You should be able to remove the entire system and bypass the ecu warning light either by using a diagnostics system or by simply removing the bulb in the dash so that it doesn't register for your friendly MOT man. In terms of replacement you could fit standard non variable anti roll bars or do as many like I have done run without them. I removed mine on a lifted D1 with OME lift and found no changes at all in the cars performance on road and the extra travel is much appreciated when off road. Cheers Ryck
  22. Old Man Emu if you have the money then you get what you pay for. I have them on my disco and they must be 4 years old plus and work perfectly from the start. Cheers
  23. Kk, I will book myself in for an IT tussle tomorrow and hopefully get it off to you sometime. Cheers
  24. I have that issue, Are you after a few pages as I could have a go at scanning and sending you them over rather than buying a whole mag. Cheers
  25. M&S - I find you need to get the waffles in at an angle if you cannot drive onto them if you see what I mean and sometimes that requires a bit of digging and swearing to shove the waffle in there as well as rocking the car if you can as in this case. Take a look on youtube for some desert footage and you can get a good idea of how sand ladders which are the same principle as used. Cheers
