  1. I run nothing, no restrictor, no baffle, no thermostat, no controller and no problems.

On my old 3.9 I removed the spindle and the bearing etc of the pump, alloy welded a small plate on the side outlet neck and the built and ground the old spindle housing up and ended up with a perfectly round front hose outlet, which I just fitted a 90' elbow to and "hey ho" it was the perfect way (and increadibly neat) method of connecting to the pump.

It all worked faultlessly with my alloy rear rad set up.

Stop flaffing around and get on with it man.....

  2. I have had 3 sets of QT front radius arms and they are junk, all bent, useless, don't ask why I went back for more.

Saying that I have also bent 3 (to date) standard radius arms (which are in my humble opinion by far the strongest) but in all fairness to LR have not bent a front mounting point,

I have however bent 2 different Disco chassis's at the rear mounting point for the trailing arms.

Point being, something in the chain will have to bend at some point, depends what you want or expect of them.

But if you fancy a playday or green lane day with inferior aftermarket arms fitted don't forget you have got them and they are not bombproof, or in some cases as strong as the standard ones.

  3. Saley on his yellow bulldog uses 80cc motors which are great for his motor, but it was not designed as a recovery truck so it will get hot with prolonged use above what it was installed to do (pulling big STUCK heavy Buggies that have no drive or batteries left), and it doesn't have cooler fitted.

Bigger motors (which he doesn't need) would overcome this.

I'm just in the process of fitting a pair of Saleys with a crank (via front pulley crank propshaft) driven Group 3 50cc pump and a Group 3 air actuated dog clutch, and 100cc motors, this will plumbed on the pressure side in 1/2" pipe with 3/4" fittings, tank is the weekends job and is of a unknown size yet, I don't at this stage intend to fit a cooler.

The tank will be on a frame under the passenger set where my 3 big Optima's were and will sit just over the chassis rail, so we wait and see how big a volume.

The engine is a big Rover V8 all whizzy gas flowed heads, cam etc, etc, just built, I have also supercharged it (which is awesome), and via the Megasquirt it will run launch control when the pump is enabled, this will then let allow me rev limit the engine to 2000RPM.

It has been on the rollers and produced some VERY healthy figures especially low down torque, the radiator is in the rear so under bonnet temperatures are not to bad (in fact its quite cool) so this is the next couple if weeks work, will keep you posted.

Hey ho back to the thread....

  6. Well signs were put out at around 4am, so I know they look good in the dark...

From leaving the A6 its about a mile and a half to the site.

Anyone in wagon will you park in the yard at the bottom due to field softening up yesterday with the obligatory monsoon on comp weekend, also those with trailers can you unload your motors on the bottom NEW lane then just drive them onto the field, just saves anyone sinking to bad, its only a very short walk, 50 yards or so.

I've had a message about the brew wagon, THERE IS NOT ONE and the nearest Mc Dees is miles away (probably about 10 or so) ....

The site is stunning following the water, you will love it......

    See you there guys...

  7. Ladies and Gentlemen

The expert instructions as promised by others but not forthcoming, so here goes

After travelling through Matlock Bath on the A6 heading towards Derby, just after the big mill/ shopping palace a set of lights appear (Cromford lights) on a crossroad, turn left this is Mill Road.

Follow Mill Road (by the old Mills/ waterways) until a left turn appears signposted Lea Bridge the road is called Lea Road, ip the road (under the Mill Bridge) and as you pass the houses on the right Pear Tree Farm will be on your left, just AFTER Pear Tree Farm is the road down to the yard, take it.

Straight over the small bridge and follow the new gravel road until a crossroads appears after a few yards, straight across and onto the camping / parking field.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES USE THE OLD ACCESS VIA THE YARD OR THE FORD

Postcode for farm is DE4 5JN

Scrutineering and signing on/ registration will be open from 08.00 hours Sunday, driver briefing approx 09.30 and event start is planned for 10.00 hrs, IF everyone is ready and willing the start can come forward a few minutes, but only by agreement of all parties.

As this is a working farm any animals must be kept on a lead and under control this includes family members if they are unruly...

Watch out when travelling for the huge amount of bikes (and of course speed traps/police) that usually frequent the area in the summer months, it is if your not aware a stunning location very popular with visitors and tourists.

Please, please, please bring a bag to remove your and any rubbish the event may create, we would like to return one day.

    Thanks and safe journey,

    Chris 07973 775045

  8. Following on from the huge success of Round 1, we are now well and truly taking entries for Round 2 on the 27/4/14 of the AWDC Challenge North West.

This is as previously described at Pear Tree Farm, near Matlock, Derbyshire.

Stunning site, rocks, trees, slopes, in fact everything except water, and set in a stunning location.

This is without doubt one of my favourite sites in England....

No butty van on this one I'm afraid campers, but as usual toilets and camping is, and on this one a full management team, which stops me interfering with the scoring and lets me get on with organising etc (my wife's on this one), so get your entries in asap, those who've already entered no problems the rest of you are on a first come - first served basis, so don't leave it too late.

Be in it to win it, don't forget - run by competitors - for competitors....C'mon......

  12. Ok guys, we have got just a week to go before entries close and are still a short of the minimum which Saley and I have set to run a event, which is 20.

So like I said before don't turn up like a play day, it is not, and you will not be accepted, we need definite numbers for door stickers, polo shirts, trophys etc.

If we don't the the twenty for round1 we certainly won't run the remaining rounds.

So you are intending to enter get it to me, if not please don't moan in the future about lack of events.

    Its up to you guys.

  13. I am co-organiser of the AWDC Challenge North West and we are actively seeking new-comers and inexperienced crews with some nice easy punches and a host of advice, so there's another option for you, but don't get caught in the "you need this" trap.

Get in touch and we can talk you through what you need.

    Chris

  14. I'm still awaiting a few entry forms that I know people are sending in to arrive.

Please remember that NO entries will be accepted after the 8th March post has arrived, its not a play day, no turn up and enter on the day will be considered.

We have to know the numbers for various reasons,

The butty vans a stunner, you will not be disappointed, trust me.

So pens to paper boys and girls, its getting close.......

    Chris 07973 775045

  15. Take a look at the vacuum pipe, a favourite after a session on its side, its probaby sucked up oil or water and that will run through to the ECU and confuse things a lot.

Just remove the pipe and look for any contimination first.

If it is the problem the you may need a new MAP sensor on the board.

A way to avoid it in the future is to get a speciman jar from the chemist and glue 2 pipes in and make a little trap, plus you can clean it and visually inspect it.

    Done mine a few times.

    Good luck

Just saw your last post sorry, but I'm glad you've sorted it.

  16. Due to us having a few problems uploading on to the AWDC website could anyone who requires an entry form, Rules and Tech regs please PM an address to me and I will send one in the post.

This should will speed things up for a day or two.

We are getting a lot of interest from competitors so please get them in a quick as possible as we are limiting entries to 30 a round and this will include up to 25 (max) full series entries.

If you have a number that is on Nobbys (The Welsh Extreme website) list please let me know on the entry form otherwise a number will be allocated to you. I have block booked a group of numbers for this purpose.

    Cheers

    Chris

  18. Chris Booth and John Sales are proud to announce the news that by popular demand we will be be running the AWDC Challenge North West series of 4 events again this year

We will be making a full statement shortly with all the details but thing are well into the planning stages and we intend to keep to the format and scoring system which worked so well in 2012

This was a handicap scoring system which was quite simply, the more toys - the less points.

Rear steer, portals, hydro steer, multiple winches all welcome

We have some fantastic sponsors already including,

Dan at Wrex Racing, Paul at West Coast 4x4, John at Saley Winches, we are seeking a 4th sponsor, maybe you?

We have some preliminary dates which are as follows,

    Dates are

    Round 1 - 23rd March

    Round 2 - 27th April

    Round 3 - 21st September

    Round 4 - 19th October

    Sites will be,

Bob Smiths Uplands Coppice nr Bridgnorth a hugely popular site

Ince, nr Wigan Lancs, and new and unused site, which is huge

Mow Cop, nr Congleton, Cheshire, another popular site

And AN other yet to be announced, but will be up to spec.

These sites are NOT in order and a 4th site is in the process of being secured.

Further details to follow, but be assured all sites will have toilets and good camping ground.

We have a new setting out team, new scrutineer, and new Clerk of Course,

But you are stuck with me and Saley i'm afraid.

And you are blessed and covered by the AWDC and MSA insurance.

Keep you eyes peeled more to follow shortly.

This series will be actively encouraging newcomers into the sport by offering help and advice and of course patience.

We aim to cater for the big boys, the experienced crews and also single winch newcomers.

A competition for the competitor, run by the competitor.

  19. EWP115, rear mounted 19"x31"x2.5" cross flow alloy radiator with 2x1" cores, supplied by Summit racing from the USA $165 bargain.

The pump is mounted at the rear of the vehicle and is fed out of the bottom hose and then pumps to the bottom of the engine, the flow is terrific.

Its a Serp front end with blades cut from pump, piped to the rear via 2.5" hydraulic pipes (bomb proof and semi- flexible) running more or less along chassis rails.

1x16" Pacet pro-fan (highest CFM of ALL fans) fed via temp switch, plus one manually controlled 12" Spal fan, which was fitted as a back up if required.

The EWP does not have the controller (even though I have it brand new in packaging) and is switched and alarmed to run continuously

Works an absolute treat, like Steve says doddle to bleed up, if you are worried about failure then put a temp sender in with a light or buzzer to prevent overheating in the event of a failure.

Cost new from Demon Tweeks £173.

As a plus side mine is usually nice and cool under the bonnet because most of the heat has been shot to rear of the vehicle, looks like jet taking off in winter when it warm.

You cannot have all this power without a uprated cooling system, the very laws of physics tells us that more fuel burned equals more heat, get your money spent you tight git, or stick an N/A diesel cool runner in and stop moaning.....
