  1. I've just rebuilt my motor and put on a full serp type front cover, problem being the oil filter sits right over the front diff, so I've bought myself a Mocal sandwich plate and will use my existing remote oil filter and 19 row fan cooled oil cooler.

I've used a pair of Subaru sump plugs as blanking plugs to block where the original pipes went of to the factory cooler, but don't know which is the flow or return outlets, i.e. does the filter fill from the centre thread or the outside??

I don't want to at this stage remove a pipe and see because the engine is all new and has not turned over yet, and there other things like a new modified power steering pump to bleed up immeaditly after it starts and oh yes, the Supercharger, so I don't really want to be pratting around losing oil pressure on a first start up.

    Thanks guys

    Chris

  2. Yep I've towed my comp motor around the country with 90's, RRC's and then Disco's, then I bought a LWB 4.2 Patrol, sorry but it was a totally different class, completely in control and solid as a rock, no comparison.....

I now use a Landcruiser 100 series 24v 4.2, and believe it or not it puts the Patrol to shame, would I tow heavy again with a 90,

No I haven't got the bottle....

  3. Thoroughly enjoyed it and I had the wife on cash control, met loads of friends old and new.

Totally impressed by the quality of some of the new builds/frames i.e. ART, Wrex, and of course Whitbread.

Bought myself a new Delta-Tek freespool for the rear, and a new Gigglepin mainshaft for the rear, a superb new X Eng ground-anchor a co- drivers delight, and a pair of second hand whizzy V8 polished heads via Nige (who was like an electric frog, never still), thanks to the organisers and exhibitors for a great day out, a much lighter wallet, and a load of ammunition for the enemy to bargain with.

    Cheers Guys

  4. Hear hear Les,

I'm gonna build it no matter what, if it doesn't work then I will find a way at my expense and in my time, its called evolution and he old adage " if at first you don't succeed" we all know it.....and it will have taken no loaves of your table, I don't pick faults with LED lights or furry dashboards or MUD consoles or knobs driving around with Simex copies on tarmac, so why should they pick faults with the legality of my hydrosteer, yes ignore them you may say, but why bother in the first place because most of the modifiers or chaps that also try and push things a bit further (and not necessarily at huge expence) have long since gone because they also got sick of it.

Yes I read Nige's longest re- ringing an old V8 thread in history and he did a lovely job and got a fair of criticism in the making.

My Challenge motor only touches tarmac when it gets off the trailer in my driveway, I couldn't care less about about VOSA or SVA etc.

I want it to work good in a bog, not a city centre, and unfortunately lots of lads who are on some good new builds are also doing it elsewhere,

I stop off for a brew with Zim often on the way home, and knock about with Dan Thomas I also speak to Tomcat404 often, there are some belting builds on the way but not here unfortunately, and Saley rarely looks in here anymore.

Don't get me wrong there are a few belting lads who do a bit to bring things Big Si, DD, FF, LB, HFH to name few, please don't discourage them with bull-bits, and police ing things to death, its all a bit boring.

  5. Forum police full stop.

I did not put on my new hydrosteer project last year because i would start by stating it is an off roader and only off roader but it would be followed by countless post telling us again of why it can never be driven on the road,

My Supercharged 5 litre V8 build will not be on for the same reason, nor will my Toyota 80 axle on to Land-rover chassis project which is just about to start, purely because I'll get fed up of "bolt on babies" telling me whats wrong or why it wont work and eventually it becomes a chore to try and share ideas, then its far easier for some prick to show us his new wiper blades and whats wrong on ebay, its what YOUR creating and why it will strangle you I'm afraid.

If we try and have some fun on the competition forum to keep an post lively on the forum then the police and admin's are in again telling us to stick to the topic or else DELETE or your thread will be removed, fair play, play elsewhere, its seems that what you want.

Go back 2 or 3 years and have a look, and there are a lot of superb builds coming along that have not posted for the reasons above, but stick to fitting mudflaps and LED lights if thats what you want.

  6. Have a looksy at Summit racing aluminium rads (thinks mine was 5.7litre 1" cored rad) for about £200 quiddies plus a bit of delivery and it took 2 days to arrive.

Faultless. Electric water-pump, no thermostat or speed controller, 16" Pacet Profan on thermo-switch blowing and opposite side 12" Spal just as a booster in times of need and covering the rest of the rad.

But also have a look at the waterless coolant as well its supposed to be the dog's.

  7. Thats a belting idea Fridge, lets set a load of motors of down the public highway with tyres full of "bog" and possibly bent or damaged steering rods and track rod ends, lights covered in **** if they are not broken and windscreens that can hardly be seen, and stick it outside the local nick, the locals will really be supportive of us OFF roaders then I would imagine.

Please don't organise any up Cheshire way pal, my licence won't stand the points, or perhaps we could do it on BMX bikes so its a level playing field, but with bells and lights of course, and cycling clips.

    Happy New Year.

  8. Axle stands out, front wheels in the air, good feel of the wheel bearings and swivel pins at different locks and sides and i'm sure you will answer your own question in the time it takes to drink the obligatory "cup of tea" and will have diagnosed your "bolloxed" C/V joint.

This job however is near impossible without the "brew", you know it makes sense.

    Good luck.

  9. AWDC North West Challenge Round 4 Final Instructions

Please drive safely at all times and obey and parking and any speed instructions.

Camping and loading/unloading of trailers and vehicles must be carried out in the areas provided.

Fires and fireworks are not allowed and ALL litter must be removed from site, we must respect the landowners property and remember that this is a working farm and that animals and livestock may be present anywhere on the land and remove any and all risks towards such animals. We would like to return in the future to use this site again.

Marshall's, organisers, Clerk of the Course and other officials will have an answer to any problems that may arise, please do ask them or highlight any problems that you become or are aware of.

Dogs must be under control and on a lead at ALL times, loose dogs could be shot if the farmer feels there is a risk to his livestock, please do not let ourselves get in this position.

Upon arrival please sign on and present your vehicle for scrutineering, this will save time and could enable any issues to be rectified, any repairs that could cause ground contamination must be carried out on a groundsheet.

Please be aware of the "special stage" possible scores they can be very rewarding.

Scrutineering from 08.00hrs, Drivers briefing at 09.30hrs, and we aim to start at 10.00hrs, possibly earlier if ALL correct an present ant in FULL agreement.

There will be a very limited Marshall recovery from certain parts of the competition area, this will result in your scores be invalidated though. Competitor recovery however does not.

There will be some new competitors there so please be patient and help wherever possible.

Lets have a great end to the 2012 Challenge North West Series, have a great safe competitive weekend, and remember don't hesitate to ask if you don't know.

  11. Well its a week and a half to go before the final round. Thats flown.....

    Postcode is DY13 0TE

After last Sundays LRS with Saley as a co- driver I need this years last event to try and get my "cred" back.

Following this event is the winter strip down, engine out to be replaced by a supercharged unit, and possible some new doors again, and who knows what else winter may bring.

Look forward to seeing you all there.

    Chris

  12. Well I've got a fair few lead acid's up and down the railway lines in some cold nasty horrible places like Buxton and the Peak District that operate all sorts of signalling items, perhaps we should bring them down for the winter in case they "don't like it "

"We apologise to passengers on platform two, but the next train will arrive in June, this is due to the batteries on the line getting a chill." , and to think they used to take the pi** out of the leaves.......

  13. Well boys 'n' girls we are now on the countdown to Round 4 of the AWDC North West Challenge

This will be as you know at the superb Coney Green Farm site on Sunday 4th November 2012.

Coney Green near Stourport is another vast site with plenty to test man and machine to the limit.

Usual scoring system will be in use and the popular double punch cards and the chance to zoom up your score with the special stages.

Good trophies as always for driver and co-driver, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, special stage and "Spirit of the event".

Good clean camping with toilets available free of charge for the hardy. No butty van though..

Entry forms and details can be found on the AWDC website (follow the Challenge NW link) rules and regulations are also there as is the option to pre-pay via PayPal, if you wish to.

Look forward to seeing you there and please register you entry asap.

Don't forget this is the last of the year we are running and could decide next year for us, so please support us and don't forget, this is a comp run by competitors for competitors.

    Chris Booth

  14. Yep Bob, same front diff as mine probably.

Forgot how tasty that site can be so was very glad no major incidents this time.

Thanks to the competitors that could be bothered to turn up, probably a mistake on our part for trying to squeeze the re scheduled round in on the weekend that following the de-cider.

So great site, great competition, thank you all for coming, marshalling, scrutineering, clerk of the coursing, chief marshalling, registrar ing, signing on'ing, photographing, and everything ing.

See you all in four weeks and don't forget to get your entries in quickly.

    Cheers
