  1. Round 3 will be the 9th September at Mow Cop, near Congleton, Staffs/Cheshire border, this is instead of the 26th August. I'm trying to find a way to edit my original post. Also by pre entering all 4 rounds at £240 this represents a saving of £5 / event making each pre entered round £60 as a pose to £65 for each individual round. More to follow soon Chris
  2. We are just waiting for confirmation of the land owners before we put it down, hopefully before the end of the week.
  3. Due to a lack of Northern events in 2012 John Sales and Chris Booth are pleased to announce The AWDC Challenge North West Series 2012 This will consist of a new series of 4 events at Northern and Welsh sites, comprising of a 30 car maximun entry, a classless scoring system based on traction aids/number of winches etc (yet to be fully announced). We are delighted to have the full backing of the AWDC complete with MSA insurance and will basing our rules and technical regulations on the "AWDC Challenger" series The events will be of a standard format complete with special stages. The 4 events will be individual rounds along with an overall series trophy to be presented at the end of the year. We have some exciting new sponsors from the 4x4 world but are keen to attract more and are more than happy to be approached. It is hoped to strongly promote the social side of these events but they will all be based on a one day only format with camping etc. We have a mainstream 4x4 magazine keen to feature the different rounds complete with photographs. We will have no restriction on traction aids, oversized tyres, number of winches etc but these will be subjected to a percentage score yet to be announced. This early announcement it NOT intended to be the start of an open debate. These events will be priced a £65 / event and a discount if all 4 are pre paid at £240 Preliminary dates and sites are as follows, 22nd April 2012, Upplands Coppice, Nr Bridgenorth 24th June, TBC 9th September at Mow Cop, near Congleton, Staffs/Cheshire border, this is instead of the 26th August 28th October,TBC More details entry forms and regs will be posted soon. Please show this your full support, we are doing this to put something back into the sport and for competitors from the North of the country who don't have much to do next year. 4. I felt very sorry and had a drink for an hour with the Club's setter outer's/Marshall's at the Mow Cop site the other week on a late Saturday afternoon when the Club i.e. BADLRC couldn't be arsed to let them know it was cancelled after they gave their weekend up and set up all Saturday, wonder why they spat their dummies out and told them to get stuffed. I feel very sorry for them the way they have been treated and for their effort and contributions throughout the years, and sarky comments / smiles etc. Thank you lads. Have I renewed my membership to the Buxton and District LRC this year?, same as they say in their carefully worded letter time "for a sabatical".
  5. Bit of topic but whats all this about Matlock, whats the crack? where abouts what site etc, who to contact etc??? Back on topic some good advice there, but if your unsure or not quite ready yet, come along early watch scrutineering and have a chat with some of the folks concerned I'm positive providing it's not 2 minutes to go most people will take time to talk and offer advice. Become a spy, blend in,like me.........
  6. Not a million miles away from East Midlands Airport or Donnington raceway. Have a look on the LRS website they have map links. It's the only round I've not entered this year because of the Scotia up Scotland, which is a bummer because it's the nearest....
  7. How long as 11.52AM been first thing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and thats still a email and not a phone call. Just had a phone call from the lads up Mow Cop setting out, they have not email on site so didn't know either.
  8. Well thank you very much, For spending loads of time getting the motor ready, Taking a weekend of work, Rushing around all week prepairing, Taking the trailer out of storage to load up with, Loading up Saturday morning, Making a balls up on behalf of your competitors Having the courtesey to telephone all your competitors as soon as you knew and being not being complete exercisers and just sending an email, oh sorry thats wrong you didn't ring all the members of the club affected.... And for completely wasting all my time No inconvience at all, why have you not put the reason down or is to embarrassing?? A very un-happy member of BADLRC
  9. Thanks Nige I've just been under the motor to do a few checks before this weekends Clubman challenge at Mow Cop (3 fields away from home) and have take a few pickys of said diff in place and a couple of the back end showing the Glyn Lewis "ard as nails" diff pan. Those astute members of you may notice some nuts we have welded along the tube to secure the brake pipes to, gives them a bit of chance when deep in the "Terra Firma", that's sh**e to you southerner's. Please excuse the poor wash down last weekend, it was only a "dip and go" before Mow Cop..... You can clearly see the 2 adjusting nuts on the fitted casing on the first photo... Told yer that axle was bright, it didn't look like that on the lid.....
  10. Ey up G Yep cheers mate, that was one of the main reasons I wanted somebody who knew how to build diffs properly and check things and Steve has a great reputation, I've built them in them in the past but it really is guess work and hope for the best. So that one had all new bearings and a new pinion flange / seal so common sense ruled my wallet and it's proper. Tell you what, Nige need his patio set oiling and not with EP90?, I always thought semi-retirement led to that sort of pastime........
  11. Well just about to attempt an hill climb in front of an ethusiastic crowd at a recent play day, pre-checklist included engage both front and rear ARB's, Ashcroft shaft's front and rear at the ready, Ashcroft C/V's waiting to work, Megasquirted V8 burbling sweetly, harness adjusted, just one thing left to do and that is to move the auto shifter to D for drive, WTF was that bang?, followed by an horrific crunching of metal on metal, it was as I found out later that evening every single tooth on the crown wheel being shredded off, a very traumatic and catastrophic failure of a Land Rover diff and I still don't know why, perhaps poor adjustment by owner of bearing and pre-loads etc, we will never know now, thank god. Take a look................ h So following disturbing discovery it was a quick phone to Ashcroft for one of their superb uprated and strenghened crown wheel and pinion and another phone call to Mr Barker AKA as the Hybrid from Hell to try his diff pegging service. To those of you who do not know what "pegging" is, it is to fit a phospher bronze pad (located on two adjustable bolts) against the back side of the crown wheel and adjust it up so that it is just rubbing and no more, this pad will stop any flexing of the crown wheel and stop it from moving away from the pinion gear for a moment or two which is probably what happend to mine. They are common place on comp safari motors where the diff can be subjected to massive shock loads on taking off and landing or lifting wheels with lots of power on, and then "hey ho" bang another diff gone. That type of failure rarely occurs when a diff has been "pegged" and is another common failure point hopefully put to bed. It will be neccessary every now and then to adjust the bolts up to touch and then just back of a flat or two to ensure that close contact is still achieved. So with photo's supplied via Nige a bit of a casebook as they say, I hope you find them interesting. First job shot blast and chemically clean the casing and bearing caps ready for work, pretty good eh? Another view Now to lay out all the new bits prior to maching and welding the strengening plate in which will supoort the bolts that hold the pad, you notice on the Ashcroft crown wheel and pinion a different tooth count but I have I kept to the standard ratio which I was happy with, this re-angled gear grinding ensures a larger contact area than the standard gears but at the sacrifice of a bit more gear noise, which is totally un-noticable (hell we're not driving Jags around) so no worries there. Now for some maching, here goes Nige........watch the fingers or there will be another injuries post flying up "doh look what I've done today" Oopps another Cobalt drill bit broke, more plasters Nige??? clumsy boy....... OK now we can see the newly finished paint job and the phospher pad and holding arrangement welded in prior to fitting. This block takes a serious ammount of welding in because of the high strength required. For those of you in the know you will notice we've introduced the later TD5 bearing caps for a bit of added strength. For those of you really in the know the diff casing and "pegging" was done by Mr Barker and the diff rebuild and set up was done to a superb standard by ex-Kam man Steve. So there's Boothy's bombproof rear diff ready for action and hopefully years of hard challenges to come. There was a photo of it fitted to my recently refurbished bright yellow axle casing complete with a new Glynn Lewis DIY bombproof diff pan but the bright yellow I painted it may cause upset to certain viewers so I omitted it on health grounds. Basically it was so bright you could hardly see it, I'm hoping a few muddy days out might tone it down a bit. So many thanks to Nige and Steve for a superb job that I'm really chuffed with. Chris
  12. I wished I'd spent more time in the classroom than the pub when I did my HNC in electrical engineering a few years ago..... Saying that all this palava makes hydraulics look a lot more favourable.................... Field weakening a common thing eh !!!! another pint of Pedigree please landlord...hic...hic...hic....
  13. Si With a Gigglepin 50% geared twin top housing I definately prefer the XP's over the Bow2 but I'm only running 12v on 75mm copper multistrand (top quality) using a pair of Albrights and everything is paralled up just in case and then onto a pair of big yellow top Optima's, I do however use an extended Deltatek which as you know is a bit less diameter than standard. However after recently having both XP's fail due to brushes worn out i went back to Bow 2's, following pricing the XP brush packs I had a root under the bench and found that some old standard motors with what appeared new brushes including holders and plate assembly were the same, so now it's back to XP's until my old mate John Sales has one, a sale that is. XP's do seem superior in performance especially on a hard pull. Cheers Chris
  14. Zardos, is what you say correct, I thought an XP is the same in either direction and because they are series wound, it's just a case of reversing the polarity on the field windings (i.e. F1 & F2) and it's off the opposite way, if that's correct then how can it be less power one way when it's the same winding but reversed? I'm NOT saying you're wrong just questioning how that theory's made, I not spoiling for a fight just trying to figure it out. Mainly because I've just re-brushed both my front XP's and got them both running the wrong way round so have simply just reversed the wires on my switches for now to save pulling them both to bits again to reverse the field coil brushes, I didn't notice any loss in performance on last weeks LRS (it was me suffering from lack of performance) so that sort of told me that they were the same either way. C'mon Si what do you think????? Boothy
  15. Right Gents From Biddulph stay on the A527 towards Congleton, you will just as your approaching the outskirts of Congo go under a bridge (Staffs/Cheshire border) keep going for approx 1 mile until you arrive at the traffic lights, turn left into Leek road, take the 4th left turn (just before Railway bridge) into Moss Road. Follow Moss Road past garden centre round right hand bend and you will see another Railway Bridge turn left into Mow Lane along side tracks and keep on this road to site, you will go past Horshoe Inn (fine country pub) up the steep bank and site is at top of the hill (just where it opens up) through gate on right. A34 Congleton to Kidsgrove road, turn at Astbury Church (big Church big spire near pub called Edgerton Arms) there is a big green triangle of land with a small garage on junction. Up past Church, ignore small right turn into house's and take right fork at the junction (with house in middle) this called Dodds Lane and keep on over Canal bridge until you reach the end which is where it meets Mow Lane (just over Railway bridge) turn right up past Horseshoes Inn (dam fine country pub and still is) and up bank to site as above. Lads that is really the only ways to site with a trailer, caravan or lorry, If you approach from the other way you will have to go down past the site and try to turn around somewhere. Who needs Multimap........ Good pub Horshoe Inn did I mention it, good mixed grill....
  16. Put Mr Booth and co at the top of your list please Matt..................................

  19. Twice in 7 days whilst re-building my rear axle including the ARB have I needed bits and pieces for the ARB, seals, clips etc. Twice in 7 days I've phoned a lovely young lady at Ashcrofts, and both times my goods arrived next day and for just £2.50' ish postage. A public "Thank You" for a superb service again. Chris

  21. What a cracking day out Really enjoyed it and came away with a sun tan...... Dan "the Dummy" Thomas nearly took my eye out when he spat it out again...... My new fuel pump failed to deliver on only its second outing causing a right missfire, and then during diagnosis (I'll own up) after first changing the plugs for a new set, then the coil packs, then the pump did it come to light that somehow????? no's 3 and 7 had inadvertantly swapped over in the haste, so I gave myself and rollocking fired her up up and carried on faultlessly after losing about an hour and a half.....oopps.... Anyway axles off soon for mods and a respray inc new doors. Thanks again to all involved for a great weekend. Chris the miss
