Wait until you get your first arc flash ( arc eye ) now that is hilarious lol regards Stephen
Interestingly I was told by a welder I've worked with that because I wear reactalight glasses I'm less likely to get arc eye. Something to do with how they work I believe. I'm not planning to try it though.

In my opinion the only rust prevention that works long term is galvanising. That said it's heavy, can block holes and the finish is rough, but it does get everywhere. Hot zinc sprayed is probably the next best thing as it's significantly lighter (it doesn't pool either) and the finish is ripe for painting, but it doesn't go inside totally. Epoxy etc are pretty much the same as hot zinc spray. Though adhesion is questionable which is best. You wouldn't galv a race car chassis because you want it light and smooth equally a garden gate is perfect for galv, your not worried about weight or painting it.
Galvanising is generally the cheapest to.

I work on the theory that I don't want to tell the recovery guy "I don't need a spare whee.....oh good point".

You could try boiling water but to be honest your at the point of they're knackered so anything is worth a try.

If memory serves me correctly it has been done and they used RR engine and gearbox mated to an lt230.

I call bull****. Something else would have been behind it and the rag is too lazy and too unprofessional to find out the real story, going for an easy rant piece that wind up their readers.
I agree there is more to it, but the article states billing refused to comment which doesn't help. I suspect it was something like there was a tip off of a criminal element but it sounds like it was handled badly and will only hurt the show more in the long run.

The one I have in the roof of the ibex is a trailer bungee luggage net, it works well but I had to double up on the bungee cord as the squares were a bit big. The 110 has a cheap eBay special hanging on one side it's good enough to throw coats in but I doubt it would take much more.

Seems a bit extreme, I'd be interested to know the other side of that story. Let's face it the whole billing show turned into a complete mess a few years ago when it got split in two and it hasn't got better. This may kill it for good.

Definitely looks like the head gasket was going. If the engine is a potential keeper then I'd get the head skimmed and checked. If it needs to be back on the road quick or you don't need the expense I'd clean it up new head gasket and off you go. I've cleaned up plenty worse than that and put them back together but I normally need them the next day and I can't afford the extra expense.

We run 255 bfg km2's on the wife's 110. Personally I've never seen the point of all terrain's, the muds are fine on road if a little noisier (not that you can hear anything in a land rover). You either need muds or road tyres will surfice.

So, am I collecting a PTO fro Mr Dicky by any chance?
I'm sure one of us could make use of it.
I need to measure up to see if it will even fit under the seat now before I get carried away looking at modifications.

The advice we were given by our friend another racer was to do the same as it made sure you finished every time!
It being your daily has the same effect. But I think you get a better feel for the truck too. Therefore more mechanical sympathy.

I made a fibreglass hard top for a 110 double cab and a hard top for a soft top ibex. Both were made with a temporary mould to achieve a one off roof. Feel free to pm me If you want help and advice with fibreglass (I've done more than my fair share of car work and build boats for a living).

Have you been using the spacer? I fitted one, it failed in two years. When I went to fit the next it was exactly the same however it came with a spacer, I fitted it and this time it's lasted a lot longer. My conclusion is whilst they do fit without the spacer it over stresses the arm or diaphragm thus causes failures.

Jamie I've got you on my Facebook. my builds are the big green 130 with 44" boggers. and now building a set of 404 axles up for my 90 with 38.5 mud treps , the sumb axles were on my old d1 years ago , my back still hurts lol
I've not been on this site for years
I third a build thread, I find Facebook disjointed and generally horrible for build threads. Unless you know someone or happen across one it's hateful and even then you'll never find it a second time.

I assume you need better contact if so are you aware there is a plate that bolts to the swivel to give a flat surface for the bolt to hit. I believe it was only fitted on a few models but was readily available last time I looked.

It's veneers of walnut, teak, mahogany, maple and cherry. All glued together at 45° then cut out using two holesaws, shaped by hand then dipped in epoxy.

I proposed to my now wife with a homemade engagement ring, I even made the box.
In fact several of our friends and family have received homemade birthday gifts over the years, I guess I set a trend.

I've got a broken forward facing PTO going spare if it would be any use? Broken as in the casing hit a tree stump (nothing to do with my driving!) and cracked it in two...
I may well be interested as the one I have is technically a spare for the 110 for exactly that reason.

I've got the complicated part of the PTO in the fwd facing one and I can either adapt that to rear facing or attach to the main shaft. The tricky bit will be mounting the winch low enough and getting drive to it, but until it gets here and I can throw a tape at it I won't know how viable it all is. Worst case is I sell the lot and just get another electric winch.

I put the head back on and torqued down, it wasn't till I tried to connect the temperature sender I realized the mistake. Fortunately the crimp was in the bore and it was just the cable and the head gasket that copped it.
