  1. Nice one! Have those got more off set then most modulars? They fill the arches just nicely

Yeah I noticed that too, The outside edge of the tyre lines up with the spat almost exactly. It didn't on the hybrid with the same set-up.

I'll measure the off-set tomorrow. Didn't have time today, had to head out straight after fitting them. I even had to wait about 4 hours to drive it with them on! ;) Hence later pics have fog.

They were standard modulars from Nene Valley. I understood from Chris, GBMUD, that modulars used to have a greater off-set, but they changed it a few years back.

yes LR90 the comparison pic does show the contrast!! :)

  2. Anyone know what needs plugging on a TD5 for wading. Also where's a good source for the plugs??

Lastly, I'm assuming it's let hassle but is it also cheaper to go for one of the wading kits for axle breathers etc. Again what needs breathers? Front and rear axles of course, but I've heard of oil pumps etc??

Anyone have a good recommendation for a supplier of a kit,if this is the best route.

    Cheers

  3. Fitted the 255/85 16 BFG Mud's today...

    newtyresfront3q.jpg

It's driving better on-road. I find the TD5 a bit undergeared on-road in standard form so addition of bigger tyres is better for me. I appreciate that LR has geared it for good towing,so no compalints.

    newtyresside.jpg

Need to try them out in low properly off-road, but going from a V8 auto running on 35" simex, I'm sure it's going to be slow enough going down hills for me ;);)

Lastly I think they look better too.. :P

  4. Wasn't somebody (I'm thinking RogueVogue or Paul Wightman?) offering SS hoses that you could make up yourself at one point?

Paul is. I already have three hoses from before, just need to get some more bulkhead connectors-but thanks for the posts on where to get them.

James, cheers for confirming it's a straight swap, that will make it easier ;);)

  5. Going to fit some extended SS brake hoses to the 90. I'll have a look tomorrow when I swap the tyres over, but just wondered if anyone on here knows if it's a straight swap with the standard TD5 ones for the ss hose and bulhead connector??

I have no problem swapping out and bleeding the system, but if I need to start to remake some of the solid hoses/connectors I'll have to get someone else to do it.

  6. Am I supposed to manually disengage the brake pawl before freespoling?

I found the drum stuck sometimes.

Sorry for the dumb question but it sounds odd to me...?

From my experience no it shouldn't be an issue. You should just be able to pull out free spool lever. You'll need to match up teeth to engage it back in fully.

If you drum is sticking make sure that brake pads are not sticking together. This can happen when then winch is left idle for some time.

I hardly ever used freespool, just used winch to pay out line.

  7. x2 23/24 new CV from Ashcroft to replace the 32/24 you currently have

    new Ashcroft extreme shafts

    Ashcroft Drive members

    cush drives are an option

and get the ARB fitted diff pegged

that will set you up with a tremendously strong rear axle

the front diff will be a weak point till you replace it as it will only be a two pin diff

if you do not plan to get a ARB in the front try and get a 4 pin diff as fitted to the rear in The Army wolfs

also available elsewhere but at a ££ for the money probably cheaper to fit another ARB(4 pin standard)

ARB's from muddy trout, you'll get discount for buying more than one BTW.

Above is what I'd do in your position.

    Tony

    Hi Tony

Cheers for the post and info

  8. On a Range Rover there are only two pedals. The one on the right makes it go, and the one on the left makes it stop! ;););)

Sorry to hear about your clutch woes, I hope it's something simple.

The Heated windscreen is good isn't it :) Missing that on Defender, I'll have to fit one, so that it can defrost on outside and inside on the Defender :)

    Cheers

  9. Oh steering guard, then yes Southdown do one. It really protects radiators and sits in front and connects to radiator sub frame. The diff guard they do is a complete waste of time and just acts like a plough off-road.

    Cheers

  10. Not for me!! Got a mate thats after one for a '97 P38. Purely for cosmetic reasons but I've never actually seen one?

Anyone know of someone that stocks/ makes them?

    Bollox!! I mean SUMP!!!

Nope not seen one ever. Not sure why it's needed either. Safety Devices do a gearbox cross-member guard, but really this is only useful if you don't want to repaint crossmember.

On a P38 you really only need side sills, fuel tank guard and f&r diff guards. Oh and remove rear silencer boxes, cut rear bumper, new custom front bumper ;);)

  11. they'll be too wide IMHO

Maurice had a similar size on his at BUDE and coun't get out of a bit of a puddle, just span like F1 slicks

    even with two ARBs.

255 has proved to be a superb size I think, Jay on a challenge we did drove stuff that people on far more aggressive tyres misjudged and failed at.

Second that, I think 255/85's are best compromise between good height and width and BFG MT's best off road.

If you are looking for an AT type tyre for better on-road handling/noise etc have a look at the goodyear MTR. The MTR is more of an intermediate between Mud and AT and is actually quite quiet on-road.

  12. Steve we are making 2 types of CV, one is the 2522 style the other 'looks' like the 32 spline later one but actually takes a larger 23 spline shaft, this means you can fit it in the later axle with the 23 spline shafts, no messing with hubs, flanges Etc

    Dave

    Hi Dave

    Thanks for that

So if fitting rear ARB, keeping existing front diff and uprating half shafts and CV's all round what would you recommend? What components would I need?

    Cheers

  13. Shouldn't need sealing - the puddles never get that deep in Sainsburys car park ;)

They doround here, once one puddle outside sainsburys got as high as a Range Rover's windscreen when it was in high mode! :o

I presume that is a typo, or are you looking for the 'bling cruise scene' look?

Nope sorry I should have clarified, 2" drop on the shock mounts all round, with longer shocks and longer springs.

Will are you offering to orgnise a trip?? Haven't had Oliver's Nectar in a long time ;);)

    Cheers

  14. Steve

    on a serious note

before doing anything I'd get the waxoyl into it now bulkhead & chassis

    the sooner the better.

what are the first mods, wheel & tyres?

Yes planning to do bulkhead and doors. Just using a spray can for these. What's the best cavity wax for the chassis? Also best way to apply??

    First mods are..

Wheels and tyres, on Monday 255/85 BFG's on 16" mods

    Fit CB, thanks Col110 :)

Fit stereo and speakers into headlining

Fit Hardtop, sides, headlining and rear door

Drill holes into pristine wings :o for chequer plate so that I can put my cups of coffee/tea on while I do rest of mods ;)

Then lots of protection, QT diff guards, dan bars, fuel tank guard, side sills etc

    Fit air intake

Then suspension, straight forward 2" drop all round, longer shocks and springs (yes I know Nige  )

Hide all receipts from Kate :)

Then that will be it for a while until two further phases get added ;);)

    Cheers

    Steve

  15. Nice one! You did very well, I couldnt have got anything close to that price sadly

    Hi Jeremy

I popped into Broadfields to sign the paperwork, asked lady on reception if you were around, but you were out for the day. Was going to say hello in person for once :)

siggy nope, you're right that's a large hole. It's actaully a tray that things like mobile phones etc can fly out of at high speed if you want. ;) Need to get a cover and stick the CB in there.

    Cheers

    Steve

  16. Well i got the wheels Steve had in mind !! :P

And bet it was a little cheaper on the fuel, that your last delivery trip !!! :D

Yes you did, now I've got to go out and spend 700 quid to get a new set!!

Getting back on a tank of fuel was a novelty, even compared to RR's let alone hybrid ;)

I'll pass on the wings, thanks for the offer though Tim. Just let me know if they are faulty as you're covered under your 5 year warranty remember

nas90 thanks for the farming insight Dave :) updated my post based on my newfound knowledge

    Cheers

  17. Picked up the new toy on Tuesday. Here's a pic taken today..

    guesswhat.jpg

    What do you think??

    Steve ;););)

    So here it is really..

    front3q.jpg

it's a 2005 90 Truck Cab, that was obvious!! , that was just under six months old and 3000 miles on the clock. Bought it from LR dealer in Glasgow. Yes Glasgow! Very local to Cambridge ;);)

There was a reason for this madness namely that I bought it for 12,800 inc VAT. It's bog standard apart from a tow pack. It now has 3500 miles on the clock thanks to drive back  and thanks to Chris Watts for helping out with the driving back to Cambridge. Not sure he was too pleased though when he found out there was no stereo!

Only two mods so far. First was to have the alarm/immobiliser activated. LR factory actually fit the alarm/immobiliser to every TD5 Defender, but charge you 250 pounds as an option to add it to the standard ones. Of course they don't tell you that it has it already and that it would only cost the price of two fobs and 10mins labour to activate it. Fortunately I was aware and saved myself 175 pounds - Result! :)

Second mod was to fit security cubby box from mobile storage systems. Thanks for the recommendation Chris, they are very well made..

    interiordriversside.jpg

Not so straight forward to fit as I didn't want to take a grinder to the tub, as per instructions, especially as it was only 24hrs after I picked it up. Modded cubby box instead and also cut T4 diagnostic port bracket to fit around cubby box..

    td5t4port.jpg

The 90's muddy as I couldn't resist some lanes on the way back from Mobile Storage Systems!! :)

    front3q2.jpg

Only problem was they were muck spreading on one of the fields next to one of the lanes, so now the 90 stinks like a farmers truck cab as well as looking like one!

    Here's some more pics..

    rear3q.jpg

    offside.jpg

What do you think of the new Simex Extreme III's?? Suitable for the Bull Dog's 34" limit ;)

    nearside.jpg

    interiorpassenger.jpg

    interiorclose.jpg

Lots more mods planned over the next 12 months or so.

    Steve :)
