  1. Ok,going by responses so far it's looking like late Jan would be good and event only day at Bures. I will ask Peter about then and also possibility of winch challange, special stages or trial course.

Fi, no it doesn't have to be forum only just using it to schedule it and get enough people along. I don't see any reason why it can't be open invite. May have to limit laning numbers though,so that we don't get too manyvehicles doing the same lanes in one day. I would like everyone to get a good selection of lanes as some people will be travelling a fair way.

  2. OK, let me know by posting here if your are interested in a forum meet in the next few months in the East of England.

The rough format is a two day event. One day of laning and One day at Bures site. I have spoken to Peter, petergg, who runs the Bures site and organises the Bures Play days and we can either join one of the planned play days: Nov 6th, Nov 20th, Dec 11th & 27th, Jan 15th etc or if we wait until New Year we can have a day where it is just forum people. I think this is right Peter? Jump in if not :) Cost of Bures day will depend on numbers but shouldn't exceed 25 pounds per vehicle. If it is not an existing Play day we can look at setting up some special stages/trials course or mini winch challenge for thoise that want to do this. Peter - what are your thoughts here?

People can either attend the one day, either one, or both.

The idea for the laning is to break people into groups of ideally 4, max 5 vehicles if necessary and provide road books. Road books will be simply GB OS grid ref of each lane with a suggested route, but groups will be free to do them in any order. The idea will be for people coming from south, dartford tunnel direction, North A1, North M1, or West M25 to get different road books.

I can provide space for camping and I can check with Peter if it's possible at the site and there are also plenty of reasonably priced local B&B's for those that don't fancy camping in winter. Camping will be there for Friday and Saturday.

So the main thing to know is are you interested. If which month is good? And finally would you prefer Bures to be forum only or one of the public days. If the former, and if possible, are special stages, mini winch challenge or trials course interesting??

Depending on the response we can work out some dates, agree them and determine whether laning will be Saturday or Sunday.

  3. isnt the diff on the wrong side too?

plus the rear trailing arms are very different on the P38 as well

    Hi Donald

I'm sure Will would have spotted that, that's why Isuspect he has a 110 rear P38 axle. Same internals as a Range Rover P38 axle

  4. so with UCR's when the little red dots continue after the track has finished and go across open land or sometimes a path and then join a UCR track or road again what's the position for driving on these.

When you actually drive most of these it is actually a fully blown track that continues on through, and most of my local ones I know, but when you don't have local knowledge how do you know? Does the definitive map classify these as ok, the ones I have seen are just as vague on UCR's - so haven't been helpful, but are CC's where they have tons of UCR's like Somerset and Devon for example more helpful??

  5. Hi Will

Is it a rear 110 P38 axle/Wolf or a Range Rover P38 axle, as they are similar but different. Internals are the same as I understand but diff housing and obviously axle are different. They are 24 spline, 1.24" diam, 4pin and stronger than standard 90/110 fair apart from Salisbury with 3.54 R&P ratios.

As for ARB locker, you need RD57 not RD56 for this diff. Not sure what difference is,but both Dave at Ashcrofts and Simon at Devon 4x4 have installed the RD57 locker and would know difference and whether you can adapt your RD56. If it helps the flange diameter is 205mm [8.07"] and RD57 was developed for axles with Traction Control.

  6. Yes each isolator adds about 12mm to your height, so if you use them top and bottom you will get an additional 24mm,almost 1" lift. Castor angle and prop shaft angle willbe affected and with 2" lift from your existing springs you probably have some issues like prop shaft vibration etc.

The RR and Disco's only used one isolator on each spring at the top and was used to stop noise ofcoilssprings not to add damping.

You have two choices. You can adjust the height at either your local LR dealer or at an indepedent that has access to diagnostic equipment. You could also do this yourself using Rovacom Lite and a laptop.

Or you can just simply put at resistance pot in the common neg circuit on pin 24.This adds an additional resistance to each height sensor effectively reducing the height all round. It's that simple and you can adjust the height to whatever level you need.

  8. Not that I know of. You just need motion sensors and associated electronics. Both the P38 and L322 Range Rovers use these. I know the P38 best as I looked into it before putting on winch bumper. It has three sensors. Two forward sensor behind the frontlights measure deceleration. The centre sensor measures side to side and has an angle sensor too. All of these are monitored an interpreted and under right (or wrong ;) ) conditions activate the air bags.

Should be no problem of adding a similar system to the Defender, apart from additional cost of course.

  9. Just out of interest whenyou get sat outages in dense woodland for example, does the trip catch up when you have signal back again. If so I assume it uses a 'as the crow flies' distance from when it lost signal and when itcame back on.

Anyone know if this is how it works?

  10. I know it's not the British thing to say  , but maybe the new Defenders and the rest of the range should be built in the US too. I'm sure that Land Rover can't be making much money on each vehicle sold in the US market, going by the prices they have to sell them at. This means that every other market has to subsidise the US division.

If companies struggle to make a profit overall, then it makes sense to make some radical changes so that they can sell cars in the US market at a profit and survive. The likes of BMW and the Japanese realised this a long tiime ago and set up local manufacturing plants.

As for the new Defender, you'd think that with modern materials and techniques they can continue to keep it simple, easy to fix, adapt etc at the right price point. The hardest thing to achieve will be making it look good. Hopefully they don't try and go for a corporate look and they update it like BMW did with the mini. As long as they don't give it the same rear end as the Discovery, otherwise it will be ****ed for sales :)
