  1. It's on the bottom of the bellhousing.

It's a brass drain tap (no typo this time ;) ) on the bottom of the bellhousing. Looked quickly on rimmer bros and there is supposed to be either a drain tap or drain plug there. I can take a pic tomorrow if you insist!! ;);)

    Cheers

    Steve

  2. What's the purpose of this tap?? I assume that the bell housing takes in water gradually and hence drain tap?? Is this correct??

Should the tap be open all times apart from wading? Lastly if I'm having a 'homer' moment and forget to put it in what's the likely issues??

    Cheers

  3. Ok here's some pics..........

The site is set in pine woodland with several streams running through it, here's Si White in the first one..

    Siwhiteinwater.jpg

The site allowed Chris to set out a range of punches, from really difficult ones..

    markdoingwhateverwasneeded.jpg

the above punch is on a tree at the top of a vertical bank above another stream/gloopy mud run!!

    To medium..

    punchmoderate.jpg

To easy.. (unless you owned anything wider than a 90/110!! ;) )

Here's one of Fi being winched up by Rob so that she can scream on the way down! ;):D This happened a lot that day :lol:

    Fibeingwinchup.jpg

This scream ended in her being stuck and holding up us getting our lunch ;)

    Fistuck.jpg

The site was very deceptive and even innocuous looking ditch crossings needed winching after you ended up ground on the diffs..

    deceptivesite.jpg

resulting in waffles weighing 300lbs!!

    daveandMarkplayingwithwaffles.jpg

Here's another example of a simple punch needing waffles to cross ditch and to provide traction to the rear wheels on the slippery surface..

    bishcrossingsmallditch.jpg

    BishBosh's RR getting across..

    bishpunching.jpg

The ditches were mostly deep enough to stop most things and slippery enough that using waffles was difficult..

    Siinditch.jpg

    Here's simonr winching out..

    Simonwinchingout.jpg

Here's Mark getting ready to take on that hard punch, while another team decides on whether to do the two punches here..

    anotherteamcheckingoutpunches.jpg

Fortunately the site was big enough that there was hardly any waiting

Here's Mark doing whatever it takes to get the punch..

    markdoingwhateverwasneeded.jpg

and then because they were a single car team they had to do it all over again on the other side :rolleyes: ..

    droppingdownontootherside.jpg

Here's Nick going through a nice section..

    Nickgoingforit.jpg

Unfortunately this is where his alternator gave up the ghost, good timing!! :o ..

    Nickstuck.jpg

Nevermind Little Si reaches in to give hime a hug..

    giveusakiss.jpg

    Here's the steaming RR..

    smokingRR.jpg

and Les in another water run..

    Lesinwater.jpg

Here's the Suzuki's that were tearing round the site well...

    suzukiabouttowinchup.jpg

They don't seem to have accelerator pedals, just on and off switches!! ;) ..

    suzukiwinchingup.jpg

The majority of people were observing good winching practices and the marshalling was easy and fun..

Here's some pics taken by DD of the hardcore crew still going after midnight the last ones going strong until around 3am..

    Here's the food tent :)

Here's Les looking really happy ;)

and Les's new girlie on the left at the back.. ;)

and here's DD's pic of the bright stars :)

    Cheers

  4. Stripped down the hubs today to try and find out why my CV's

move in and out by about 10mm. I've been running them for

14months now without problems and Jon before, but it didn't

seem right for there to be that level of movement.

Everything seemed ok when we stripped everything down apart

from the fact that the play is still there in the CV. Well actually I

wouldn't have know any different  but fortunately I

had Chris Watts, Nick Watts and Paul Wightman on hand to

    provide the expert opinion. :D

So I've just down some digging on the Kam stuff and noticed on

pic below that there is a 9mm spacer between CV and half shaft

that I don't recall being there and the larger 3mm type shim between

circlip and the hub. Now I had thought of putting in shim's here

before now, but as movement was so large, I didn't see the point.

I need to look at CV again to see if the spacer is there or not, but in

the meantime I thought I would check to see if anyone else

experienced the same prob and was the spacer the issue??

Here's the Kam pic, excuse the size  ..

  5. I've never seen a black and white paint. I think you have to buy a pot of each and paint one at a time.

A little tip - remember to clean the brush in between or you'll get grey.

    Cheers

    Steve ;);););););););););)

  6. Seems expensive to me given mileage and others available.

Have a look on LR Used Website, Hunters have one similar age but with just 19,117 miles

    Hunters (Guildford) Defender 110 2.5 Td5 5 dr - Man 5 Dr Caledonian Blue Oct 03 (53) 19,117 £16,990

Your local dealer can source this car for you. Tell them you'd rather buy this one and then see what price they do on their white one for you. I bet you could get another 1000 off with this tactic.

    Cheers

  7. These are the ones used on the extreme suspension set-up from Scorpion. You might try posting posting on LRO forum as a few on there use extreme kit.

I also saw the King shocks at Billing that they use for racing. These are very heavy duty shocks. They also are component based so you can strip, replace seals and re-gas in the field too.

Expensive too, but if it provides good reliability and saves buying multiple sets of shocks, over the long term it probably pays back.

  8. Gwyn's design has a surprizingly simple design to allow you to hold the spring to the chassis when you need to lift a wheel in the air (to change it for example) whilst using a hi lift style jack.

You don't have to jack it up too far!!! ;)

    beforeside.jpg

    afterside.jpg

Here's the cones on the bottom..

    rearsprings.jpg

So Nige, how come it's more likely to get ripped out attached to top than bottom??

    Cheers

    Steve

  9. What have you done to the Range Rover? Been out with the T cut or something a little more involved?

yeah just Autoglym paint restorer at the moment, I've got to call Graham (Ripley) on Monday to get it in for dents and re-spray etc :)

    Cheers

    Steve

  10. Here are mine..

Here's the hybrid when I got it..

    RRBumper020.jpg

run it on BFG's for laning and summer..

    defcross3.jpg

also running it with bikini top, or LR Thong as Nige calls it, this summer..

    rearq.jpg

    Here's the p38..

    RRtyres033.jpg

    now morphing back into stock..

    p38side.jpg

and finally family hack ;) , latest and very reliable  RR..
