  1. I really appreciate your offer mate as this is the panel I need. Will be in contact. Regards Phil....
  2. Thanks for all the positive replies.! The roof console I made out of craft wood (MDF) by soaking it in water so it would form the shape needed. All basic woodwork skills or lack of. Anyway it has a DVD screen and I have yet to mount in LED map lights and a few switches to justify the roof console existence. The console between the seats I made a little higher than the original, where its a perfect hight for me to rest the elbow now. All the seats had a 1 inch foam lift for added comfort, so the center console had to be made higher anyway. The only thing nagging me now is the dash warning lights panel has crazed, and for the life of me I can not find a new one here down under. Funny thing when you brighten up the interior how some deteriorated things stand out. Regards Phil...
  3. Hi All,,, Been a long time in the waiting but finally had my interior manufactured in thick leather. My wife is an upholsterer and its taken 4 years of nagging to get this done!!! Pffft The consoles I made myself where the boss woman covered them in leather including all seats. My Landy is a 1995 defender 130 now wearing leather trim which kinda turns me on at the moment. Slap, Punch, Ouch,,,,, I am over the moon so wanted to share my excitement. Regards Phil.....
  4. Here is a link that helped me rebuild by Garrett T25 turbo. Piece of cake. http://www.sr20-forum.com/forced-induction-turbo/21597-how-rebuild-t25-t28-turbo-pic-heavy.html Regards Phil...
  5. Mate the actuator for the waste-gate works under pressure not vacuum. I think from memory the latter models were electronically controlled but don't quote me on that. Regards Phil...
  6. I welded one diff a long time ago and jigged it in place with a large lathe just to be sure all would run true. Not that this means much, as welding one side shrinks and does get things off balance no matter how careful. Makes me shudder in disbelief now how evil the idea was for a locked diff. Phil...
  7. Hi Mo... The fan and matrix are original parts as I wanted to at least keep some things genuine. The box is water tight sealed with SikaFlex, except there is a small hole at the bottom fan section if water gets in. Also aluminium brackets either side of the matrix with soft rubber holding it in place so its sealed in nicely. It will be very easy to add an extension outside the box with control flap to bypass around the matrix, which I will get to soon. Regards Phil. PS: Attached a pic of it all mounted I took tonight. The goop dripping down the firewall is Linseed oil which I pump my Landy with each year to prevent corrosion. Looks a little messy but 15 years strong and no corrosion living near the beach.
  8. Well I would like to believe these systems could work, but knowing people who have used them is a different story. 4 year old vehicles fitted with these electronic devices from new, and there corroding everywhere.! Admittedly here they were used by most who do a lot of beach work, but I have never heard a good story about these units yet. Linseed oil seems to be the flavour in preventing corrosion in my area. Regards Phil...
  9. Hi all... I made a heater box for my defender 130, and it heats the cab much better than the original. No flaps inside as it just uses the fan speed to control air flow. To add cooler air I just open the vents under the front window. Took me about 2 days as I had a little trouble getting the shape right at first. Regards Phil....
  10. Sorry Pete,,, I didn't realise your vehicle was non turbo as your brief description was a little vague for me to diagnose. (Quote) Just on the move, On acceleration. Hmmmmm,,, Blown head gasket, blown manifold gasket, stuffed wheel bearings, or the clutch thrust bearing. I am not psychic so can you elaborate in more detail please mate. Phil....
  11. Sounds like the turbo has packed it in. They will squeal when the bushes are shot as the wheels scrape, and vibrate on deceleration. That's my quick diagnosis going off your description. Regards Phil....
  12. If you can handle natural, use bees wax. Will protect and waterproof canvas, and is better than any chemical junk.
  13. Its a normal headache. To be honest, I would rather a Landy than any other vehicle when doing a clutch transplant. Regards Phil.....
  14. Also worth a try is to check your fuel cap. If they can not breath (valve blocked) it causes a vacuum in the fuel tank and also plays games with the engine sensors. Only saying this because I have seen this happen way too many times before. Regards Phil....
  15. Hi Scott..... I am a retired mechanic and I will admit I do not know much of the land rover auto's. But normally with any automatic if the dipstick pops out, this is because the breather on the top of the box is blocked,, as others here have said. Another cause is the auto is a little over full of oil where it will foam up and blow off your dipstick. I am beginning to sound romantic so just check the things mentioned above. Regards Phil...
  16. Seen this a few times in my life and it all came down to a relay someone has hacked in there for the starter solenoid. Especially when things are wet, the relay conducts and thus turns on the starter motor. Regards Phil....
  17. The only thing I have ever collected from someone knocking on my window is a parking ticket fine. Pffft I am very happy for you Terry, and it will be a wonderful experience when you have the opportunity to go cruising with Mel.! "Land rovers seem to have a human life of there own, get old, get sick, get divorced". Haven't worked out why just yet. LOL. Regards Phil....
  18. Hi,,, I am brand new here, but may be able to help you with tips and tricks running your Landy on used veggie oil. For 5 years I ran my Defender 130 on used oil as I built a largish process system that made 200 litres per day. Ok, the old oil needs to be titrated going through stages breaking it down and then cleaned, and PH adjusted right. Some tips: Use Chinese restaurant oil as they change it every 2 weeks, where your fish & chips shops use there oil until it looks and smells like vomit. Trust me you will soon know where not to eat.! Some bonuses of it all: A tank full of bio diesel use to cost me approximately $10.00 AU, all said and done. My engine ran so quiet where there was no valve rattle and the performance was spectacular. Except for top end speed where the Landy levelled out around 115kph. Anyways, I developed something for a company in the US and had to spend 4 months over there. On my return back to Aussie, my Landy started to smoke bad and not sound right. only 90,000ks on the clock. I pulled the engine completely down and the cylinders were worn bad, injectors totally stuffed, valve guides worn out. Being a retired mechanic I was shocked that my diesel motor looked like it had done a million miles. What happened? 2 things..... The fuel PH changed while sitting for this time, and the battery slowly discharged causing added corrosion. Thats my story mate, and I am sure others will have more to add for you. Best Regards Phil......
