i knew that............
In my experiance, a 1.2 box on a defender is horrid, other people say other things, so if you can try it before you do it.
In which case buying a RoverDrive or similar could give you the best of both worlds.... although they cost a significant amount of the folding stuff

Love it

Just out of interest what are you planning on using a beast like that to do?

A different kettle of fish on a petrol..
He's referring to the diesel. The OP has a 200tdi and is it appears only considering a petrol due to the noise of the 200tdi on the motorways. Hence the gearing change suggestion to quiten motorway speeds by reducing revs.

how come your £170 down? glad you got it back though
I believe you get charged for the recovery

Hi I will be driving 500 miles on the day I pick up my 90, 20th December my misus just asked what you going to put in the 90 incase the weather turns bad etc..
......
How did the journey go?

its not everylittle detail, but if things dont look right they'll want to have a closer look,i.e check the no.s ect that theyve not been tampered with, thats when it gets taken off you and you dont get it back untill they happy its legit
this is whats going off in derbyshire im just trying to pass info on to hopefully save other people a big headache, obviously the police are trying to stop people buying dodgy parts,at least there actively trying to do something about the riseing problem of l/r thefts
I get what you are saying, it's basically that you may get stopped if your Land Rover has features that are not appropriate for it's model year. Once stopped they'll check the usual numbers, chassis, engine, axles, g/t boxes. If there are issues with those numbers, ie stolen or tampered with or not matching V5 for chassis or engine numbers they will want more information/proof of ownership and in some cases your vehicle will be taken.
All makes sense really, I guess people don't like being stopped when going about their normal business.... but if it was their pride and joy that had been nicked they'd think differently.
Although personally I think I might be tempted to put the correct badges back on mine now

It's really good to hear about such proactive policing, but also quite scary if you haven't got receipts for absolutely everything that is 'non standard' on your truck
-
That could produce some interesting results if the vehicle wasn't stationary when the compressor cut in.
For my purpose I have my system live with ignition, so when the air pressure drops below a certain point the pump kicks in. This combined with an automatied idle increase is potentially dangerous. I'm looking at situations here where the engine would be below 1500 rpm but you are still moving, such as when slowing down and your foot's off the go pedal.
I guess Roger's circuit could also include the start inhibit switch if you have auto transmission. Then you could have the idle increase isolated when in gear. Options for manual transmission anyone?
Fit a TD5 speedo and then knock up a little circuit that takes the output from pin 1 of C1060 on the back of the speedo (doubles the signal output for ECU)
So basically if you are moving then there will be a waveform on this pin and it shouldn't be too difficult to use that to supress the increase in rpm..... maybe... just an idea

Im not saying all defenders will be stopped im just sayeing we get pulled over more than most, and as has allready been said the police round here have been sent on courses ect to reckonise the different age defenders,if something doesnt look right for the year they will look further and if its had new axles, doors etc etc you will have to prove there legit and not stolen, thats where reciepts come in,im just sayeing it will save you a lot of hassle and possibly save you the hassle of your landy being confiscated while they investigate further as has happened to a couple of my mates and many others in derbyshire, the 90 in question could be genuine and made up genuine bought parts, then again it could be a ringer or made up of stolen parts,im just sayeing people need to be 100% sure when they hand there money over
Good advice for anyone traveling through the area
Although it does make you wonder what happens if you have a Defender that has a mixture of body panel ages and no supporting paperwork for those panels (maybe from a previous owner replacing them). If the police stop you, unless they can prove they are stolen (how can they prove it) surely you are allowed back on your way.... albeit after a massive delay.... are we talking hours, days, or weeks?

Welding a washer to the remains of the bolt can also be quite effective.

Anyone know where the 90 degree fittings are available from?
Al.

That's just one from google, I haven't used that company.
-
Can't you get a 90 degree connector? I seem to recall using them them to fit BOC guages to Air Products bottles years ago... but memory could be fading a tad. BOC bottles are top mount and Air Prodcuts are side mount so a similar thing.

In fact from the IRB Developments FaceBook page.....
Bolt on Variable Geometry Turbo Converisons avaliable.... Td5 and now 300Tdi Defender and Discovery in stock.
They allow you to run a standard exhaust down pipe, standard intercooler pipework etc etc.
Removes turbo lag and gives much better performance from idle throughout the rev range.
Specially designed, not a turbo from another vehicle bodged to fit!

Wasn't the locking bonnet only on early defenders or prior to defenders? Looks like there is a key barrel in the grill....

Number 4 injector has electronics in with EDC controlled engines.
True, but isn't that just a lift sensor for the ECU? So if swapping the injector pump to a non electronic and dumping the ECU he ends up with the same engine and can ignore the sensor? Worse case he could swap injectors over, although I would have thought BlueMoons injectors may be a bit knackered along with his engine.
Converting an EDC engine to non EDC is covered here http://forums.lr4x4....showtopic=39385
The extra parts for the conversion should be available from BlueMoons old engine so all that would need to be bought would be a cambelt which is good practice anyway.
-
If you already have a knackered 300tdi in yours you could get the 130k 300tdi and swap injector pumps, then there is no worries about any electronic gubbins. No extra electronics in the actual engine itself.

Sticky plasters, bandages, pain killers, valium, vodka and a glue bag!
Well there is a LR part number for the first two Jeff ..... STC7642 http://landroverpartshop.co.uk/product/First_Aid_Kit_DIS4-STC7642

What do you mean fry someone? Surely he did that to protect against mice crawling on the car. The thief touching it was merely bad judgement on the thief's part.
In which case (as Retroanaconda pointed out to me) he should have had a warning sign and all would have been fine
-
Would that be this one g&t?
-
Ouch! Well glad you are back on your feet I think your boss owes you one for that! It almost sounds like something from a cartoon being pushed through a wall by a car
-
In which case take a few blankets for mum to wrap up warm, in case you do get stuck in a massive tailback and have to turn engine off. With all the tea and water people are recommending your biggest problem will be finding a toilet when you need it
Will your legs hold up ok if you are in stop start traffic? not sure how heavy the clutch is in a TD5.
Must be a good mate to do that trip for you Good luck, you'll have a fun trip

...erm VH... how are you getting to the place you are picking up your new bundle of work joy?
If going by train I'm guessing a lot of these things will not be practical to carry ... well apart from the AA card

They really are a good honest product aren't they I am still very happy with mine ..... although a tip would be to swap out the black screws that hold the front plates on as they do start to rust in the damp weather..... stainless M5 button heads are dirt cheap though.
The dash is surprisingly easy to fit as well
