Diff drain plugs with no magnets to catch errant teeth and bits of bolt that float around the axle case ! Surely there's an opening there, Si
Mo
They already exist ....

Before I discovered you could just sand the lip off, I made one out of a bit of bar bent in to a U shape welded to a plate - which was pretty good at not ripping the belt loops off my trousers. Perhaps someone could turn it into a product!
Si
I'll have a look at that this weekend, I have been left hanging by my belt hoop on more than one occasion now! Of course it only ever happens when others are watching so as to make you look a right t!t !

new defender? Oh YES...hut is on!
Good man! Look at it as an opportunity to find an even better one!

Also true, there is the exclusivity of being 1 of a not so many people I guess, my problem is like anyone who's taken a land rover apart I know whats its worth in bits, and I don't agree with whats its worth together.
Hmm I'm good at talking myself out of things aren't I. Maybe they are a piece of history now and belong is museums and private collections.

I hope you heal quickly and fully! Good luck Will you be replacing her with another Defender?
-
Wow, you are very lucky, I take it it rolled a few times as well? Drivers side looks very mangled, did you walk away?
-
You have to do either VHT or food; you can't do them at the same time
I bet you could reheat a kebab at the same time without noticing any change to the taste......

I always dread MOT time, makes me feel like I'm back at school and it's me being tested! Anyway Had mine tested last week and it passed, a couple of advisories on bits but two of the three advisories I suspected I'd get anyway.... all the other bits I had been fretting over (and was still waiting for parts for) were fine to my surprise. I came to the conclusion I worry too much ... and have probably replaced far too much of the 110 over the past year! lol

Erm, is the marking to the head just where the bits of piston have hit it or is it what caused the piston to break... is there a chance that one of the bearings is buggered and allowing the piston to slap the head? Just a thought and probably wildly off the mark.....
-
Thanks James, I'll give them a bell
-
For that money they could at least Galv the chassis as well!!
-
Ooo, how local are they? I need to replace one of my rear shock upper bushes and have no idea what make is on there so visiting one would be good for me

Best bet is join/talk to the CTOC, they're like the mafia (but in a good way) and know almost everyone who owns one, what's out there, how much, etc.
When dealers / eBay have Camels (which are not always genuine either) they charge silly money. I'd avoid them on principle TBH.
Will I wake up with a Camels head next to me in bed if I bad mouth them?

It says replica in the description....
Edit: too late as always....

It would be nice if they could state what the 'Safety Reasons' were, as without clarifying it makes it look like they are just hiding behind the phrase. To have legitimately come up with 'Safety Reasons' I would imagine a full risk assessment would have been performed and they should easily be able to come up with more information on the safety issues involved without having to undertake any more work than to look up some documentation.
If we knew these reasons we might possibly be able to come up with a solution that still allowed a working party, thus saving us money... as at the end of the day the money is coming out of our pockets in one way or another.
Hmmmm.
Thanks for your work DrRob!

The 'kin door catches on my defender that keep catching my trousers when i exit the thing
That's just it showing you its love, it doesn't want you to leave!
-
Maybe that explains why when I bought mine it still had the centre belt even though there was a chubby box fitted! Just for your sanity mine passed last time without the belt
-
Oil seal ... go on you choose which one
-
Like you say the pins are only there to stop the pads falling out, so if you don't think they will fall out then it's probably fine
-
hmmm... well That will find out what I have on there now, but not 100% sure what I had on there before
Well I guess that's a start ..... maybe try the check Ian did further up this thread to work out what should be on there? Would be a shame if the paddocks bloke was right and you were about to die... what holds the non holey pads in anyway?
-
I may not be remembering correctly, but I'm sure I did .
Are you alive? and is it worth checking? .... checking the pads that is, not the state of your health

Old thread resurrection time,
Haynes manual says front prop sliding end to diff,
Rave says sliding ends to transfer box
Scanned '93 WSM from Retroanacondas site says nothing about orientation,
Scanned WSM (unsure of date I think 1984) says nothing of orientation,
Series 3 manual says sliding sections to the front, I know it's a different vehicle but may be where Haynes got it from.....
Does it actually make any difference which way around it is fitted? and if it does why? I have read about the out of phase bit but regardless of which way around the prop is it will still be out of phase by the same amount won't it?
I'm confused :s

Any luck? or were you rained off this evening Nick?

I'll get some pictures as I put it back together - assuming stupid BT home hub doesn't blow up again (on number 5 at the moment)
Anyone know the Indian for "it's shagged again"?
