Pictures on the web only show one of them and the instructions mention a spacer to fit inside the crossmember for the big bolt on the lower hinge. Could it be that? The flat bar could possibly just be to make putting it in place easier?
All just guess work though.
EDIT: Having looked at the install instructions again online that is the spacer for that bolt .... you seem to have a bonus one!
Have a close look at the bottom left most picture on page 4 (assuming the online instructions are the same as yours)
EDIT2: The instructions I saw it in http://www.slideshare.net/JoaoCarreira2/da22321
That's the one... I couldn't see it on the instructions I have.
And I missed these ones!
Question answered.
I hope I haven't bent my cross member (sounds painful!)
Cheers,
Mike

Nice welding (!)
Britpart...
-
Oh, and Ben didn't know!
-
I bought a Britpart spare wheel carrier (part number 2232) off Ben (WHO4 MUD)... Now, in the box there were two of these jobbers:
The instructions make no mention of what they are, or what they do. Anyone got any ideas?

Anyway - I found this - and was wondering what it was?
Cheers
Erm... What this?
-
£23000 that just went for.
expensive for a vehicle that if you reverse into a lamppost, the car insurance company will just point and laugh!
-
gI was talking to the main dealer in Lewes (looking at the latest defender) yesterday. Apparently Landrover is limiting output of the defender with an eye on the replacement... this is going to push up used defender prices soon. It might be that the trade might be aware of this and so buying up whilst cheap.
I also know of a couple of companies that will find a car too order. it might just be that!

Oh and Baileigh, Warco and Axminster are all rebadged Chinese stuff...
Seemingly only the Germans make machines now... (and they are expensive)
-
Noooo!
We have that exact Warco here at work and it's so bad I can't begin..
We struggle finding tools, the tool post moves even when tight and the motor is at best lacklustre... It's so bad that If I was offered it, I wouldn't take it.
If you can find a good old machine I think you'd be better off...
Cheers,
Mike

Lots of wd40 too!
It's part of the MOT test to have these correctly adjusted IIRC

Have a look at the link above... the only reason i've adjusted it is because I've got some new rims and the bloke in ATS nearly ripped the tyre off on full lock!
You can get modulars rims with an offset of 35ish mm...
cheers, Mike
-
You could get some offset rims, though it does put more strain on the bearings.
I have 265 kuhmo mud terrains with offset rims and the steering stops are set at 45mm with no rubbing...

Mike

Really? What gives you that impression? What a way to sell a vehicle... doh.

Rust, lots of it...

Hi,
I've been looking for a salvage Defender lately and have seen quite a few with nothing wrong with them but some scumbaggs have nicked the doors, bonnet too.
Pretty easy to do if you think about it, rechargeable drill with the right tool in it, Zip, zip.. Err, and another couple of zips and one door off, inside for the bonnet catch, bonnet off, rest of the other doors, in a van and away.. 5x mins max.. = a Cat D salvage.. Insurance rises for everyone..
Are there any security bolts that can replace the Cross heads or torx bolts..?
There are "do up only" bolts but I guess these would be a real pain if you wanted to remove your own doors at any time..
db.
Quite a few?!? Where!?
-
Stainless Torx head screws then hammer in ball bearings. That's an old gate installers trick I heard once, the ball bearings are impossible to drill through what with being hardened and spherical.
Only problem is getting them out.
Cheers,
Mike

Daisy had shotgun cartridges behind her dashboard, knickers and lots of playing cards. That must have been a memorable night.
Perhaps there is an new thread "what have you found behind your dashboard"...

Shame they don't also see the link between flytipping of all sorts and banning the tips from taking trade waste. I know traders/builders/pikeys will take advantage but on balance, the cost of clearing up flytipping must outweigh the trader problems
You know, I don't think people would take advantage.
Besides, so what if they do, most waste these days has worth. What costs money is shifting it around.
I'd like to see a trader try and drop off a tonne of brick rubble at a modern tip, it would take all day!
BTW Where do you take stuff if you're a trader?

Mate's workshop heater runs off waste oil
So waste oil is a commodity, with worth in the right quantities, why do tips not take as much as they can?
The whole question of restrictions at tips annoys the heck out of me. Why don't they allow me to pay around the rules? If I want to dump waste I can, I just pay extra...
Oh, the last tip i went to has a big tub away from the main area... Perhaps its just a case of driving around a few?
Sorry about the soap box, it's just so frustrating that councils don't see an obvious money maker...

Hi Nige,
I like the Colchesters more than the Harrisons, used both, I like the gear selector.... but that's just personal.
To be honest, the lathe is one thing, the tooling and the DRO are worth their weight in salt.
Just my two bobs worth!
Cheers,
Mike

Oh for goodness sake
Now, this comment made me smile...

I only have a bad experience of ticking:

The engine did sound just like it was coming from the dash...
Probably not, but just look under the fan to see if the main seal is leaking any oil at all.
Cheers,
Mike
