Yes....
Yes, they are structural or yes I can drive without them?

Daisy has rock sliders down her side, I want to get them galvanised.
If I remove them can I drive without them?
Cheers,

Ha, I read the title of this thread as Defender, 90 MPG.
I clicked on it eagerly hoping to see some fuel efficiency magic.

Sort or long wheel base? Is it a defender at v reg? Where are you? Will it roll? Got a v5?
Photos?

Cheers for that, found the instructions in a fold of the box!
My shocks must have been completely knackered, feels like a completely different motor!
Going to do the fronts next pay day...
-
A trolley jack and a high lift is the ideal combination. Then you can easily change shocks quickly.
If the shocks have been on for a while you are likely to have to take the turret off as well. It is pretty common to snap at least one turret ring bolt. So it's a good idea to have a frest set of turret rings at hand.
I'm only changing the back ones.
Also, does anyone know how to adjust the latest koni Heavy tracks? (With the plastic not metal tops)
Cheers,
Mike

I think you're assuming that trapped water is the only reason exhausts corrode. It isn't.
Your telling me, the salt on the roads has destroyed my 18 month old exhaust already.
-
Don't forget this is an insurance mod too!
You can get thin plastic and run it around the outside edge. If it's black it doesn't look too bad.

For overlanding i'd go for either Land Rover oem shocks or the Koni Heavy Trak's, nothing else.
Go on then, I've got a 2" lift, what Koni do I need?
Also, do I need axle stands and a trolley jack to change the shocks?
-
Hi All,
Just to tag on to the end of this post...
Which bilstein shock is best for overlanding? Or should I go for the Terra Firma TF124?
Cheers,
Mike

Couple of questions, where'd you get it and is it my eyes or is it a narrower pipe?

Hammerite chips
I was on my mobile, this is a much better way of saying what I said.
Hammerite is also a pig to remove/sand/repaint etc etc.
Personally I would just get some proper car paint and roller it on, or buy a cheap paint sprayer and go nuts...!
-
No, not hammerite!

In fairness, you could try somewhere like rush green commercial breakers. Hack it down to size, find a friendly tiggist to reacquaint the ends with the shortened shaft. Rush green ain't the cheapest, but they have an astounding array of gubbins. http://www.rushgreenmotors.com/home.htm
Now I could spend all day looking round a site like that...

Doh, I didn't look at where that one was located.
I know, i keep getting all excited, then... China or USA.
Even Albert Jagger (which is a treasure trove of cool bits) don't seem to have them...

seen those on small refridgerated truck rear doors, have a look at http://www.truckbodyfittings.com/moresmall.asp?bigclassid=1&smallclassid=1&page=2
just put truck body parts or components in Google
Yeah, I've tried everything I can think of, they are all Chinese...

Will.
Single most useful post I have seen! Fantastic website!

I've had a look a Withams but could not find any, not sure I was looking at the correct bit, will have another look.
You'll be lucky, they've sold all the good ones that have been released... Watch the price on ebay creep up.

I saw this in LRO last year and was struck by the idea.
Anyone know what this is called (for the google?)

i'm thinking of putting rear bench seats in my ex-MOD Defender 90 but is this legal to have and then carry people in the back, assuming i also put seat belts in it?
i asked a friend who is in insurance and he said as long as its an extra that could have come with the vehicle when new, it is legal, but as this is ex-MOD i have no idea what would be standard.
any thoughts?
There are some insurers that don't insure you if you have inward facing seats. Direct Line and Churchill being two (they share under righters and are owned by RBS IIRC).
This might be a trend...
I'm putting forward facing seats in the back of my 110, using minibus seats and unwin tracking.
Cheers,
Mike

Where are you in the world? I have some very strong magnets you can have if you're local... cheers, Mike

Well, installed it over the weekend. Secret ingredient = washing up fluid and plenty of it.
You need to stick it on the top surface of the barb so that it can easily slide into the aluminium slot... (Washing up liquid in green):
Start at the back by the handle push the barb into place. When you come to a corner just feed it around, it does flex out, but just keep going. The washing up liquid allows you to pull the strip into place so it fits.
Go around with a flat headed screw driver and tuck the head-liner underneath where it pops out.

Mike

I have the same issue, why can't they add an LED as well?
Try Maplin, at least you can try it.
Don't buy Sealy ones, I bought one and it had the worst pizo buzzer ever...
Cheers,
Mike

What the're not saying is they are radioactive (the only excuse for this level of daftness)...

Is it a regular ticking sound? What engine do you have?
