  1. Hi Western, I guess I'm going to have to make something! I'm not overly worried about the headroom, there is about a foot above anyone but me (I'm 6'10")! I was thinking about using the space under the seats for storage, has anyone done this? Ta, Mike
  2. Front middle to front middle. I like the idea of being able to remove the hole seat! I'll have a look at the Scenic!
  3. These are interesting. But I can't help but the Multipla one is fully integrated (i.e easily removed). Is there an equivalent? Ta, Mike
  4. Hi All, I was just wondering, are Land Rovers stopped to see if they have Red Diesel more than other cars? Are there similar dye based restrictions in Europe? Thanks, Mike
  5. I've put a tank full of the premium fuel in, particularly BP. I knew a petrochemist once, she was working on diesel additives and (so she said) essentially, reverse engineering the additive products you've mentioned. You might be better off giving the old girl a treat and a bit of nice premium! Yum, yum. BP and Shells diesel definitely make my motors run better and more efficiently! Additives, it's hard to tell... it's really hard to tell (mainly because I forget to put the stuff in each time)!
  6. Hi All, I happen to be driving a Fiat Multipla at the moment (Fantastic motor and really cheap, you don't drive it looking at it!). The middle seat happens to have an integrated seatbelt, has anyone tried to fit one of these to a Defender? Cheers, Mike
  7. Hi All, I was thinking about fitting these forward facing seats from Exmoor trim to a 110: http://www.exmoortrim.co.uk/catalogue/detail/34-load-area-seats/flypage/675-forward-facing-fold-up-left-hand.html?sef=hcfp From the pictures they are fitted right at the back of the load space. Is it possible to fit them "forward a bit" (my wife's request), so we can fit the pushchair in the back! I'm thinking mainly of seat belts. I'm just lucky she's not going to make me paint the Defender pink! Cheers, Mike
  8. Hi All, I read somewhere that it makes it more comfortable for the passengers if you lift the seats higher! I think they were doing this to Defender 110 that give Safari tours in Africa Has anyone done this? Can you buy a kit in the UK. Cheers, Mike
  9. Yep, that's what I've heard. They are also supposed to be vulnerable to water etc. etc. which is why I want to swap to a TDI! Cheers, Mike
  10. Hi All, I was wondering how hard it would be to switch a transit "banana" engine to a 200 or 300 tdi? I'm guessing it would be fairly easy mechanically, but what about the loom? Is it actually worth doing? Thanks! Mike
  11. Hmmmm... @Happyoldgit I guess you're right, I have been spoilt by modern gear boxes, it was just such a surprise. Still if it is broken, it's never going to be a big fix! I'll see if I can't drive another one and let you know the results...!
  12. Hi All, I'm looking at buying a Defender after many, many years of driving many other cars and have a general question. I had a test drive of one yesterday, a TD5, and the gear change was like stirring a bowl full of jelly. Is this normal? I'm going to try some more over the next few weeks, but I do want to know what to look for. Cheers, Mike
  13. Wow, I don't think I have ever posted to a forum and had such a great response. I think I'm going to go for a Disco 1 with a 300 tdi engine. I think the kicker is the price. I'll let you know how it goes!
  14. I just can't decide what one to get, Defender, Discovery 1 or Discovery 2? I want to go overland to Morocco (and further). My heart says Defender, my backside says a nice comfy Disco 2 with air suspension and then there's the Disco 1... I'd appreciate some guidance and your overland experience in your vehicles? Cheers, Mike (I'd really like a Series 3 and make a real adventure of it)
  15. It's got to be the export market, there can't be that many vehicles nicked, broken and not ringing alarm bells. Are customs looking out for this? If not why not? Mike
  16. X-Safe, X-S Pedal, X-Tra Safe, X-Cover? Humbly, I wouldn't worry about how long it takes to get through it anything more than a minute is enough of a deterrent. It's more about how much noise it takes to remove and critically how obvious it is in the vehicle. Would it be worth coming up with some large window stickers just to make clear that it's there? Ta, Mike
  17. Hi Ian, If you have any pictures, for inspiration I'd be interested to see them. I can't decide if I want to buy a bumper and modify it or design and build my own, I'm thinking the latter! Ta, Mike
  18. Of course, its a swing away tyre carrier. Has seen one that's as heavy duty as this, with the extra storage? Basically I want to be able to remove 30% of the storage when I'm not overlanding... Cheers, Mike
  19. Hi All, I've been a member for a few years, but never posted... I came across this on a product design website (my trade) does anyone in the UK produce this kind of set-up (the frame not the plastic containers) for the Defender? I could design and build something, but... Thanks, Mike http://www.lodoffroad.com/xcart/home.php
