  1. Hi paintman, and welcome to the forum. Thanks for the advise, it sounds like you may have moved a step on from the 'auto lane change' steering box option ? Good that you survived to pass on the benefit of your experience. Aid.
  2. Yes it does have a small engine, just like a series Land Rover. And look, it leaks like one too !
  3. Billing on Saturday would be favourite with me, then rush down for the start of festivities. I will be asleep by 22.00 on Saturday anyway, party or not. May as well have a Land Rover fix, see if we can't get in on a group T shirt photo ( anyone up for that ?! ) and a lie in on Sunday ?! Aid.
  4. New T shirts arrived this morning, they look great. Thank you very much Jim and Si for all the hard work and effort. Look forward to seeing fellow Spanners followers at Billing ?!! All the very best of luck to Jez and the boys. Aid. :D
  5. I fear that the tranquil garden may have a water feature where the illicit cultivation of rice is occurring ? Some of us appear to have guilty secrets which are best kept as secrets
  6. I would agree, a great set of photos which gives just a taste of what's out there. Kev - If your thinking goes any further than a thought, I would be very interested in a possible group shipment of vehicles. We went on our own to Moab in 2005 and had a blast, but both my wife and I agreed that we could have an even better time in our own vehicles. Not having to worry about panel damage, plus driving trails in a 'known' vehicle would make for some serious fun. I am not saying that the hire stuff is not capable, but I prefer offroading in a Land Rover product. - I don't drive a Jeep Aid.
  7. Thank you for all the advise. It would appear that Locktite is the tool of choice amongst those of us who wander across the carriageway !! I feel another undercar adventure coming on. Just to clarify, I had bent both the tabs on the lockwasher in the correct direction, unlike the motoring journalist from whom I bought my other bobtail !!! - always check what you have bought before driving from Kent to Exmoor and back with a drop arm which is held on only by the not very tight bolt Walfy - I am surprised you still have any sight at all after enduring the BLUE glow coming off your bonnet.
  8. Thanks for the prompt responses gents. Simon - do you know where I could buy a small number of Nyloc drop arm nuts? The usual suspects all seem to prefer to sell them by the bag full.
  9. Hi All - Thought some of you more experienced out there may be able to give me some ideas ? I am sufferring from loose drop arm syndrome ! I have tried the following cures, all to no avail :- 1. Do up the nut to the specified torque and bend over the tabs on the locking washer. 2. Do up the nut again, but this time to 'FT' and bend over the tabs on the locking washer. 3. Do up the nut to 'FT', bend over the tabs on the locking washer and fit a second nut to lock against the first. Following a pleasant 2 day trip to Sailsbury Plain looking at the wildlife and eating dust - we need rain ! - I spent the drive home to Kent changing lanes on the A303 with no intervention from the driver ! Arrived home, checked drop arm nut ......... Can I weld it on ?!!
  10. Drove Klondike Bluffs in a hired Jeep Wrangler with the wife. Absolutely no problem at all, take a packed lunch and enjoy the scenery around Arches National Park. I would recommend going to Arches early as it gets a lot of tourist traffic. We also drove Hells Revenge in the Jeep without any issues, though as a first timer on slick rock fins, we had a few white knuckle moments !! Am very envious, hope you have a brilliant time, Moab is fantastic !! Regards, Aid.
  11. If you have a measure up, you will find that the later scuttle ( concealed hinges ) is longer across the tops of the wings, hence your early exposed hinge doors will foul the scuttle. No problem you may think, 'I'll change the doors too'. This you cannot easily do, as the hinges on the later doors and mounts on the shell are totally different. You could probably fabricate a special hinge arrangement, but how much work do you want to do for the sake of a later bonnet ? I have doors, wings, scuttle etc from the later model which I have looked at fitting to my 'C' plate classic, hence the above advise.
