  1. Try listing pictures and description on Facebook local for sale pages. That's how mine was found when it was stolen. You'll be surprised how fast it gets shared on there! Toby
  2. Awesome, cheers for the info guys, much appreciated. Toby
  3. Mines a 2000 90 TD5 with a non-Salisbury rear axle. I just wasn't sure where there were any ratio differences and the reason for people charging so much more for TD5 diffs over TDI ones. Much appreciated! Toby
  4. After spending a good hour or so searching, I can't find a definitive answer. I have a 2000 Defender TD5 with a banging rear diff. I've managed to find a guy locally who sells diffs from 300tdi's and TD5's, except the TD5 diffs are twice the price! Is there any difference? Will a 300 diff go straight in and accept the half shafts? Thanks in advance Toby
  5. My Defender TD5 is mapped and does smoke when under load but clears when boost builds. I have a fast road map with boost increase to 20 psi as recommended by the tuner. A common problem for black smoking is the turbo elbow going soft with age and collapsing under high boost, so this might need changing. Toby
  6. The waste gate was partially seized. All sorted now. Thanks Toby
  7. One of the first things I did was change the injector loom and clean the ECU out so I know that bit is all good. I'll plug it in, change the filter and report back. Toby
  8. I'd have no chance of even touching 50mph in 4th gear before the stuttering starts. I'll change the filters and clean the lines out. I was unsure whether this was common or not. I'll plug it in tomorrow and see if anything comes back
  9. So after having my 2000 TD5 for a couple of months, I've noticed that at exactly 60mph, the engine becomes very lumpy and starts stuttering badly and the engine doesn't rev any higher. It feels as if it is hitting the rev limited but way too soon. My previous TD5 didn't suffer from anything like this. Does anyone have any ideas? Cheers in advance Toby
  10. I had the latest Snap On 1/2 gun and it lasted 3 weeks before it burst in to smoke. Stay away. I've now bought the latest Mac 1/2 gun, the BWP151P2. Breakaway torque of 1625nm (ideal for me as I work on HGV). Easily removes Truck wheel nuts. It comes with 2 batteries and an awesome heavy duty water tight box. I think mine cost around £530, which I could justify as I use it every day. Toby
  11. We use the Snap On one at work (Volvo Truck and Bus) for inspecting cylinder liners for cracked liners, checking ABS rings without having to take the hub off, checking inside bell housings for inspecting clutch springs/release bearings etc. They do come in handy...I personally wouldn't shell out or the Snap On one though, one from Maplin/Alid/Lidl work just fine Toby
  12. I bought the 90 from quite a well known eBayer in Bolton, and now that I know who actually stole it, i can confirm it wasn't him. Drivers speak was in tact, the rear near side quarter is damaged, but they could of possibly shorted out the indicator circuit, which apprently also disables the immobiliser. Lesson has been taught, I shall say no more I now have all my tools back aswel.
  13. It'll be having every security device I can get my hands on fitted to it! I'm not too sure, because all doors/locks are in tact, the ignition barrel is in tact aswel. They must of had a key to start it. It's not been hot wired either, very strange. I must say, after driving a 5 hour round trip in a Puma engined 90....I definitely prefer the TD5! Toby
  14. Unfortunately the rear cross member (only 6 months old) is also bent, so will be having a new one of them aswel and a new rear exhaust section. I'll be sending it to a local repair shop who only use genuine parts and have done some repairs for me before to a very good standard. It's not about what you know... Put it this way....he won't be able to go stealing any more Defenders for a considerable amount of time
  15. I have now obtained the name and location of the little runt who nicked it....and he will be dealt with accordingly tomorrow. Cheers!
  16. My Land Rover has now been found!! The police have recovered it this afternoon, which damage to the rear quarter and all my tools gone. It was found dumped around 2 miles from the location it was taken from, all thanks to the power of Facebook! Never mind, onwards and upwards. Time to get an alarm and tracker system fitted! Cheers Toby
  17. Unfortunately Barry, I didn't have time with purchasing it Saturday and setting off on a trip Monday morning (working Sunday), to do anything to it whatsoever except fill it up.
  18. I'm absolutely gutted, I'm still pretty shocked. I've spoke to the police who have advised me to start a claim. The insurance have done this. I asked what would happen if the car was found and they said they wouldn't contact me to see if I wanted it, they would just follow their normal process (I'm assuming auction it off). I would much rather have the car back than a payout! I've spent months searching for the one I wanted, and found this one with full service history, two owners from new and stacks of history with it, plus it was in black which I wanted! Such a shame, guess we'll see what happens next. I'll keep this thread updated. Cheers Toby
  19. Hi Not sure if this is in the right forum, please move if it is. I purchased this TD5 on 07/04/16 (yes...last Saturday!) My black 90 TD5 was stolen this morning (11/05/16) from Packington, Leicester, just next to Coalville whilst I was down here at a training centre. It was stolen roughly between 8am-8:45am from outside the house I was staying at. The police are aware of the theft. It's a fairly bog standard TD5, except for a straight centre pipe, tinted rear windows. It no longer has the light guards fitted as in the first pictures. It has a set of brand new Hancook tyres on Land Rover alloys. The most annoying part is all my tools were in the back, they are insured but I will never get back what I paid for them. This has been shared on Facebook but I thought it would be a good idea on here aswel giving the vast area of England this forum covers. If anyone hears anything please get in touch on 07595454770, cash reward for return of it. Much appreciated Toby
  20. Mine used to occasionally completely stop working and bring on the engine management light whilst driving. Turn off engine, start up and it was fine for a while. I just ended up replacing with a new pedal. Toby
  21. I was driving the Disco today, and a few minutes after running, the lights started dimming and then coming back on full (did this a few times) and at the same time the engine was dying and coming back on, it didn't die all together, and a 10 seconds later everything was fine. So I carried on driving and after about 15 minutes it started again! But this time the car died all together, and the car wouldn't start, the battery was flat! During these moments of flickering, the speedo was all over the place! I've recently replaced the transfer box and didn't have these problems before. Is the battery/alternator nackered? Would a nackered battery cause these sort of symptoms? Any help is much appreciated Toby
  22. I might try that! Hadn't thought of loosening engine mounts They're the ones! I once used them for removing a sheared locking wheel nut bolt. Think they might be worth investing in.... There just isn't enough room for a cutting disc or to get any swing on a hammer! Yep they're the ones! Quite a few of them were rounded, but they were lower down thankfully and I managed to smack a multi point socket on! Cheers for the advice guys, hopefully I'll get the b^%$%^d out today!
  23. Hey Guys The time has come to swap the gearbox in my Disco. Every single bolt is out except 1....and it the bolt at 10 o'clock ish on the bell housing (if you are lying underneath, head facing toward the back). The bolt was already rounded, I've tried smacking a socket on etc but there just isn't room underneath to get any sort of power behind the hammer! Any suggestions? I'm leaning towards going and buying some of those bolt removers that have the spiral grip in a socket? I would just weld another nut on but it's a bit tight in there! Any help is much appreciated! Toby
  24. Hmmmm don't know about brown ale Maybe a bottle of Gordon's will do!
  25. I've just swapped out a mates LT77 for an R380, and he's adamant on paying me for it. To be honest it was a massive pain in the arse due to the majority of the bolts being rounded etc! What's a reasonable price do you think? it probably took 4 hours or so to do the whole swap. Cheers Toby
