  1. Cheers Andy, it seems to go down a bit if I brake jently but if i have to break hard it is solid and very little effect
  2. Hi Western Yes they are the right way as in the fog I stopped and ajusted them? as you could see the line, but it is not a clear line it just fades into darkness, and looking at the light tester thingy in the MOT bay there is not a defining mark, just a fuzzy blur ?
  3. Hi all Well the clicking in the rear diff cost me over a £1000 as it turned out all the bolts and most of the teeth where in a pile in the bottom of the Diff? Wife was pleased (Again) just before Christmas. The question, if you pump the brake pedal with the engine off and get rid of the air in the servo, should the pedal go down when you start the engine as it does on a Petrol engine, I know the vacuum pump is driven off the Alternator but the brakes although working are pretty solid on the pedal and need a good bit of effort. As usual and help appreciated. Regards Richard
  4. I found with my Halogen Crystal headlamps, that they are loose in the retainers and they do not focus properly, they do not have a defining line on the beam, nearly failed the MOT so will be going back to OEM Glass with bulb.
  5. Thanks 101 sean and Tanuki (long time no see) I will get that sorted out first thing Monday. Regards Richard
  6. Hi all The old girl is doing fine but when under load, or pulling away hard it puffs out black smoke, I am assuming that an injector is not working properly, as it is a Puff, Puff, Puff of black smoke not one constant cloud. Can the injectors be checked easily other than stripping them out and getting them on a test bench, Runs ok when normally driving? Regards Richard
  7. Hi Cackshifter I didn't say on purpose as I know what response will happen; it was the Britpart Heavy duty clutch kit £295 including postage, cheaper and better made than the normal £500 Dual mass
  8. Maverick how did you know I had a new steering box put on :-)
  9. Hi there, I have just done my MPG Figures ( Yes I know) but three fill ups ago (about a week) the flexible part of my de catted down pipe split, no extra noise but the MPG went from 24/25 mpg up to 26/27 ? And the acceleration was really good, the garage repaired it whilst doing some other work and now it is back to normal again. is there a way to un restrict the flow further without increasing the noise to much as it was better all round with the blowing down pipe?
  10. I have just had my Dual Mass Clutch changed for a Heavy Duty (Normal) Clutch and although there is a piece of paper in the kit saying some people may suffer from increased Gear Box noise when stationary I have found it 50 times better, lighter and more responsive to use, also there is an insignificant amount of increase noise in gear box , the truck is a 110 ex Utility TD5 with 180.000 on the clock and I wish I had done it years ago and not paid any attention to the scare mongers who said they were a waste of time, In my humble opinion of course. I also had new front Shocks and Heavy Duty Standard Front Springs, NEW n/s/f Drive shaft and CV joint as nearly falling apart, new rear drive shafts with drive members attached all in one. It has made the truck a nice one to drive again. Regards Richard
  11. Hi Meatymc I had the same thing and it was the Dual Mass Flywheel was comming lose from the rubber inserts, so as you pushed your foot down on the clutch pedal the whole flywheel was mong away giving the impression of a low pedal, just had mine done, I have a 110 Truck with 180,000 on it. Regards Richard
  12. I think ocean liners have the right idea, buy solid Bitumen and heat it up till runny and then put it through your engine, 100's of thousands of trouble free travel at 100 yards a gallon ?. I have tried the new advanced diesel from Shell as i picked up the wrong pump by mistake, and it did not make a ha'penny's worth of difference, except for my wallet (Ouch).
  13. It might be a daft thing, but the 10k, might actually be the reason all the smoke and Cr%p comes out of the exhaust, if it doesn't combust properly or is designed to make smoke when heated, giving the illusion it is all the rubbish coming from the engine, I can not see that a squirt from an aerosol would instantly clean a carboned up engine ? only an Idea
  14. Hi their, I do actually let the clutch up normally it is then clonk and bang have only just developed, and if I feather the clutch any more to stop the noise I will be going backwards. I will try the drive flange option first as there is little to lose, second option is an Auto Box
  15. Hi Litch Ashcroft Shafts Front CV's £425 a pair Front Shafts £245 a pair Front Flanges £180 a pair Rear Shafts £260 a pair Rear Flanges £180 a pair Sub Total £1290 + VAT = £1584 Thanks but I love my truck but !
  16. Hello The drive shafts and hubs were greased up when put in. I will look down the non L/R drive shafts and Hubs I think, and see what the off roaders use as they must be better than standard one would think.
  17. Hi All got the old girl up on the ramps this morning and all 4 drive shafts has play in them, some worse than others, I had the rears changed along with the drive hub 11 months ago in the rears, I commented on the fact they where 11 months old and genuine L/R and he pointed out that I had done 40,000 miles since then ? There has to be a better system than Land rover shafts as I do not want to have to change them every year. Any way that is what the slop and clonk is (eventually~)
  18. Showing my age, Humber Scepters and all the old Roots Group, Maxis and Land Crabs I used to work for BLMC !
  19. I have just spoken to ashcrofts and they only do the standard clutch, no upgrades, they have upgrades for all trhe other engines except the TD5 ?
  20. Thanks Old Hand, you have now made the decision harder again I will have another look around, I am not worried about the rattle in nutural, but I wonder what trouble Stev had with his in the 130 ?
  21. Hi Steve, The £1500 was the quote I got for Genuine L/R D/M Flywheel, friction Plate and cover plate fitted by a free lance L/R Dealer near me, the £750 plus £250 fitting was from Rakeway. £300 inc Vat was Britparts, I will go and have a look at Ashcrofts site. This is the good thing about this site, a lot of people have a vast store of Knowledge, to stop people like me cocking things up. I thought Rakeway was the Mutts Nutts, but now I find different, it is a shame it's not an easy clutch to change, unlike my sisters old Viva HB, had that down to 45 mins. Showing my age Tyhanks Richard
  22. Hi Again Western, Sorry forgot to say all the suspension right through front and back has been recently done, I can feel the take up of the slop in the clutch pedal as well.
  23. Thanks to you both, Hi Western, I did put TD5 in but its hard to see, Hi Off Road ToadI looked at the Rakeway hence the £750, plus £250 fitting, the other option was a duel mass flywheel and the rest but that is working out at £1500'ish. It is a hell of a lot of money, hence seeing the Britpart compleat heavy duty set up for around £300 inc vat got me wondering, I mostly do long runs but have a heavy twin axle trailer that I tow sometimes. I just need the thing to work right as I use if for my work and the van weighs in at around 2 1/2 tons loaded.
