  1. That does sound like a typical Land rover thing to do! However I thought that the V8i Discovery's had an excessive transfer box temperature light on the dashboard which was switched on at around 120 deg C. I think the switch is PRC7984, but have never owned one so cannot be sure if the dash light is correct or not.

  2. Thought it was retired!!! I would be very surprised if the clutch was on its way out due to how long it has been fitted, but then I used to tow with it and had two dumpy bags of stone on my trailer going up some steep hills just before you had it, but never any smelly any clutch whiffs! The gearbox needs engine oil and not ATF/EP stuff. The box fitted is the better LT85 (solid case) with the oil pump, I just used to change it with either the Castrol or Shell engine oil depending what I had! There is a filter under the big plug also, but never saw any swarf in it.

  3. I have removed my old small ARB compressor from my 90 and I am about to install it into my 110 double cab, however while I seem to have more room now, I cannot decide where best to fit it. I had it on the rear seat box of my 90, but that was a County and as such weather tight (well sort of!). This would seem the best place to put it on my 110, but not sure how much if any protection the soft top will provide and sort of worried about displaying to all when it is parked that ARB's are fitted. The other place could be under the rear seat, but using that for HiLift, tow ropes etc

So then where have you fitted your compressors in your double cabs?

  4. Changed my fuel pump last weekend and all well again. Went to fill it up today and ended up with diesel running out through the top. I did leave the hole in the floor open to see and it was leaking at a fair rate. Fortunately I got home quick and siphoned diesel off down to a level which meant it is not leaking all over the floor. Not sure how I messed it up so bad, but feel I have something wrong with my lock ring. I cannot get the lock ring off the top of the pump as it has a white inner plastic piece which I think should be on the tank and not in the metal ring!!!

Has any one got an exploded diagram or pictures of how it goes so I cannot put it back together properly? I may have to go to the main stealer and get a new lock ring in the morning to, but realise it does not seal here.

  5. I am pretty sure it is blue (just took a blue out of my 110 when replacing the transfer box) . It will be the same for either transfer box regardless of ratio. The only time it would change is if you change anything downstream of the transfer box such as tyre sizes or diff ratios.

  6. Brookwells are fine as long as you specify nothing in a blue box, they are just not as handy as the 4x4 store was. Still cannot believe that they just shut it overnight and shipped everything up to Devon 4x4 which is in the middle of nowhere! You can still get bits from them mail order but it comes from the D4x4 stores and at their prices, but then you are just as well going to Paddocks, Brit-car etc.
