i thinks its good engine. td5 arent cheap when they go bang or fill them selves up with diesel or crack the heads or the dowls melt or the fuel pumps go........
the early gearboxes have had clutch issues but again the LT77 isnt the strongest and the engine does put out some decent torque specially when remapped.
having done 40,000+ miles ...34,000 on a decent remap and de cat its very much a better vehicle than a td5.
Love these people who quote the pub gossip as facts.
2.2 is even nicer apparently.
if its a later electrnic fuel pump you can retro fit the manual pump and tune the engine a bit. they go real well when tuned. alot faster than a manual. I have a 200tdi auto D1, its the best combo LR made IMHO.
tdci is newer, so less rusty....potentially. better dash, ventilation, abs system, fuel economy and when tuned properly make a decent drive.
td5 prices are high, this happened when the old 300 went out and the td5 came in. i'd say nows the time to buy, no snow. lots about...and there still in production so p/x's still coming through.
i've owned both. tdci is better IMHO
tbh £36k for a car these days isn't that expensive un fortunately.
i quite likr it. would wait for the better engine and gearbox though.
but i'll stick to my company car nd my defender
so whats the difference between the 200 and a later td5 / tdci chassis?
rear x member, what else? i've found a later td5 / tdci rear tub, will it fit on a 200 chassis?
depends what you want to notch i guess. roll age tube and under, down to say 1". so 2">1" over that its easy with a piece of paper and a grinder and under that use scissors
oil in the ecu plug.
also fiddle with the blue loom connector and see what happens.
if you prime the pump, ignition on and pump the throttle pedal 5 times and she'll run and prime.
