nitrogen is the only suitable gas to charge hydraulic systems,in the same way nitrogen is used in aircraft tyres,it is less sensitive to pressure change with an increase in temperature,i would suggest argoshield is not suitable as it is a mixture of argon and co2,the proportion depending on which argoshield blend it is.

cling film does the same!

I wouldn't bother, I tried them on my oil cooler and they wept quite well, got them swaged on after a while, but then I just used them to get the truck running
Setting, for me, was putting the pincers in the vice, was the only way I got enough force to crimp them down properly.
Yes they are easily removed, cut vertically through the ear and they fall off.
They are pretty intolerant of pipe size, I don't remember too well, but the range was something like 16-19mm, i.e. small compared to hose clips.
Personally I would invest in some stainless hose clips and not have to do it again
obviously not fitting them correctly bowie, not really designed for oil cooler hoses, suggest you do a google search if you want a tutorial.

the 6bt is a stonking engine,as mentioned you will need a good transmission, you may get away with a santana box out of a v8 110,but if you are canny, many of them fitted to trucks had an auto box behind them.

the size of the rad and the rad material has a large effect on the cooling, ally rads dissapate heat more effeciently than ordinary production rads, also using water wetter addative will aid cooling,as will making an air funnel in front of the rad.this has all been learn,t from running tarmac rally cars in the past.

i know it was not what you asked, but the toothed belt is the way to go,hydraulic test rigs for aircraft use toothed belts to drive their pumps,so well up to the job.

Trailer tyre wear

i have seen this before on a brian james trailer with similar suspension, turned out to be a bent axle,to prove in your case would take a lot of careful measurement.
