  1. Hi everyone, anyone know what the 8 speaker wires do coming out of the back of my '89 classic radio cassette? Sorted the 5 separate power etc. ones. I've got: black w/brown stripe black w/orange stripe black w/yellow stripe black w/green stripe black w/pink stripe black w/white stripe black w/blue stripe black w/red strip If i don't know does it really matter if i mix a + and - and how will i know if i have? Sorry, new to all this! Cheers
  2. Hi, sorry to nose in mate, how hard is it to take the roof off? I assume you're talking about a classic? They just bolted/riveted on then? Cheers
  3. I changed the steering damper on mine recently (1989 Vogue 3.5). First bump i went over past 50mph and the steering was shaking like a ****ting dog. Tried everything but it was the swivels in the end. Always the worst job needs doing. Just checking the torque on the bearings shouldn't take too long tho. Are you getting odd/unbalanced tyre wear aswell?
  4. I also have a 1989 3.5 v8. Check the amplifier module (little black electric connector box) on the side of the distributor. If you can get hold of one and try it on yours perhaps, or just buy one, think they're quite cheap anyway.
  5. I've got a 1989 efi. It had been standing for a while before i bought it, had the same problem. Mate checked spark, coil, ecu, fuel pump etc like you but it was the amplifier module on the distributor in the end. Perhaps the old girls don't like standing around too long! Only ignition problem i've had since was a dodgy earth lead, but you've done that so definitely amplifier.
  6. Dead right by g-rover. I've got a 1989 RR and i did my heater matrix last year. G-rover's spot on, take your time, mark the wires and allow a weekend. Two things i'll recommend tho cos i learned the hard way. 1: When you get to the point of moving the heater unit out, the thermostat wire (silver, quite stiff) that goes across to the aircon unit just pulls out of the aircon end. I cut mine in a panic and it took ages to find a new one. 2: Also invest in new coolant pipes that go in/out of the heater matrix (back of the engine bay, fit onto matrix at the bulkhead). I tried to re-use mine and ended up with a footwell full of coolant. It might make the job easier if you take the top of the dash out while you're there, it'll make manouvering the heater unit out alot easier. I didn't and ended up scratching it with the heater control sticks whilst waggling the unit out. Makes my job sound like a bloody disaster! Wasn't too bad tho, ended up with a few nice new parts installed. Good luck taking the heater unit apart to, more screws in that than i've had hot dinners. Hope it goes ok.
  7. I've got a 1989 RR vogue and had some serious central locking problems a few months back. Same thing as you really, all stopped working except for the drivers door. Apparently the central locking ECU is bolted to the steering column and it's a black box. If you take the lower facia panel off below the steering wheel you should find it tucked up in there. I never needed to replace mine in the end as the whole lot started working perfectly again before i got hold of one. You should be able to get one off ebay, rr classic recycled parts is good (ebay shop), a guy called tooliev8, he'll help you out. Good luck mate.
