  1. if you're going to the hassle of moving the tank why not aquire a cheap 90 tank (i have two) and fit them under the seat box where they'd go on a ninety - more standard and less to go wrong plus part availaillity if you ever wanted to replace anythign?

The reason for moving and keep the orignal take is to keep it standard. The probem with moving to a 90 tank is I can not on mine as where it would fit is the tank for the hydric winch. Also it is pron to getting holed with rocks. Putting a tank guard is possible, but adds to the cost.

My plan is to place the 110 tank under the rear floor behind the rear bulk head. This will keep it out of harms way and keep all the standard parts. Just meens I lose a little floor space. The filler cap will be in about the same place as a 90 but higher and more to the rear.

  2. Hi everyone... especialy the experts on this site

I am thinking <_< of bobtailing my 110 commercial 200Tdi.

But before I go down that road I would like to get your advice on:

    * 110 V 90

    * what would be the best config for susspention/ bushes/drive train/cage/rear winch/boots ect....

    * best places to buy the parts from

    * Are there any good reasons against this?

    my reasoning for project is:

    * gain better ingress/exit

    * have been told long wheelbase is more stable

    * Also informed that LWB is better on hills

    * I wish to retain rear lockable Cab

    * I assume that it is fairly straight forward.

    Many thanks

    Lawrence

This is what I am planning to do to my 110 next year. If you do a search around you will find some pictures and info on what has been done to it. I find a 90 to small but others find them fine. Its each to their own. As for rear winch, I am going to make my own rear cross member and mount it into that. Moving the tank to under the rear floor rasieing it up above the tank.

  4. Powys Lane Repair – Volunteer Project – 19/20 August

Powys Rights of Way department have agreed for CRAG to undertake a repair project on a byway in Mid Wales which is currently the subject of a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO). The route runs west from Pye Corner close to Llandrindod Wells and was closed over a year ago due to the poor surface condition. The project will involve digging some drainage ditches and laying approximately 200 tonnes of stone in the ruts on the lane.

Volunteers should wear boots (ideally steel toecapped), and where possible bring their own hard hat and hi viz jackets together with a good quality shovel and/or rake. The meeting point for signing on will be at SO 136 603 at the Pye Corner end of the lane. On arrival volunteers must sign on and receive a safety briefing prior to joining the chain gang. It is recommended that volunteers also bring waterproofs and a packed lunch.

Start time will be 09:00 on the 19th and 20th of August and volunteers will be able to sign on at any time after this.

  5. Just to let you know this happened to me on my 110. I had the wheel bearing replaced and was told the stub axel was not that good. The new bearing lasted one day of green laning. So I am looking for another axel as the swivel houseing need doing before long as well.

  6. I am thinking of trying fit some Landcruser axles to my 110. The reason is they are stronger and come with difflocks. I have heard of people fitting the diffs, but I am thinking of moving the whole axles over.

My questions is has anyone done this? If so what are the problems? What’s the diff gearing like? Are the diffs in the right line for the props? I know I will have to have props made up so that not a problem, but what the a-frame and steering linkage?

  7. I called the Telford county court this morning to ask. They said that the case is being heard this week and is likely to take until tomorrow at least. They cannot tell me the outcome on the telephone so all we can do is to keep an eye on the local press/news. Sadly I live in Wiltshire so Telford is out of range rather - anyone local enough to see the local rag?

    Chris

I live in shropshire so if I see anything I will post it.

  8. I totally agree with the first point but I just like to think about the "what if...." scenarios. Look at Steve Lloyd; I've heard he had a mog axle break out in Ireland. Not what you'd expect but it happens...

Yeah, I'll be very interested to see how the box stands up. I think the first issue I may have is the small Tdi torque convertor; if it causes problems then I'll get the tdi to V8 'box conversion from M&D, use a V8 bellhousing and bung a 12" TC in there. The oil cooler should keep temperates down, though, which'll help the rest of the internals.

Will I have a 200tdi and a 3 speed Auto if you want to see the conversion plate.

  9. Lane maintenance

We will be carrying out some work to two lanes between Bridgnorth and Craven Arms, these are Beambridge (western end) and Bush Farm.

Beambridge is widely used by all user's, mountain bikes, motorbikes, horse's and pedestrians whereas Bush farm is more vehicle usage.

Bush Farm was TRO'd a couple of years ago due to its deteriorating condition but was repaired and is now open. This lane simply needs the ruts topping up and will need some volunteers to assist with 4x4 and prefrably an open back or trailer. The stone needs to be taken from Beambridge to Bush Farm which is approx one mile. Could do with perhaps three or four vehicles on turn around.

Beambridge will be having around 160 tonnes of stone laid along its western end. This will involve two mini diggers, a dumper and roller and will take place 17th - 22nd July 2006. Myself and a couple of lads that work for me will be doing Beambridge.

So if anyone is free during these dates to transport a bit of stone please let me know.

Trailers and pick ups are best then we can load them with the mini digger.

  10. Hi,

I'm looking to add rear seat belts to my early Range Rover. I believe that it has seat belt mounting points already, but I'm having trouble finding anyone that stocks the rear seatbelts. I think that in the early 2 door Range Rovers, the seat belt reels mounted to the rear bulkhead, and that the belts were extra long to reach all the way from the back to the rear seat.

    Can anyone help?

The tops (reel) was mounter on a bracket up by the top tail gate hinges. The bottoms were bolted to the floor.

  11. Don't know if you aware of it Paul, but a vehicle can be exempt even if it was registered after 31/12/72. As long as proof of date of construction is supplied to obtain historic status. Catflap was first registered in Feb 1973, but was manufactured in Dec 1972.

    Les.

Yes, but most are registered early in 73. But under the points system it would score very little. But it dose not say its Tax exempt, I was just pointing a mistake in the listing.

Anyway it looks carp to me.

  12. The contested rule, means that if you can prove regular vehicle use over the last 5 years then it's possible to have it allowed for vehicular use. The problem is there is no definition of what you would call such a route as there is no way they would make it a BOAT and RUPP is gone post NERC. Anyway that's just semantics. With a ROAD like Sarn Helen it should be really easy to prove usage by vehicles, but for most other probably not.

About right Steve. Also you can not use horse and cart evidence to prove it, but you can still use pre 1937 (I think thats the date) vehicular use to help.

  13. Dont know if you seen this.

Thanks for the e-mail. The situation in Wales is slightly different. The provisions within the CROW Act have been passed by the Assembly - they came into force on the 11th of May 2006.

    http://www.opsi.gov.uk/legislation/wales/w...6/20061279e.htm

DEFRA also made regulations on behalf of England and Wales on Restricted Byways - these also came into force in Wales on the 11th May.

    http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2006/uksi_20061177_en.pdf

But section 66-72 of the NERC Act have not come into force as yet in Wales - this is unlikely to happen until November - due to the elongated procedures that we have to follow in making secondary legislation in Wales.

Therefore the RUPPs have been classified as Restricted Byways is Wales. The best place to see what the effect of the NERC Act provisions is to look at the Explanatory Notes for the Act - I have attached the relevant part to this e-mail.

It is not easy to follow the changes here sorry - but hopefully this will set it down as to what has been commenced in Wales.
