This will not be your problem, however can the block develop cracks if it goes from one extreme temperature to another. e.g, running at high temperature and then driving through water at well below freezing.

speak to dollythelw, as he has got one.

Problem with gigglepin arms is that chassis requires mods and they are £411.25. Thats behond my budget

Right, not sure how correct I am here but, you can't convert a diesel to run primarily on LPG but you can get it to run on a combination of both, which (again not sure) should help the engine run more efficient and burn all of the diesel going in. As a result more mpg and more horsepower. Or did I just make the whole lot up? Someone on here should know.

Yeah, I want the lowest ratio which will be the earliest transfer boxes.
-
oops! Forgot to mention that bit! Yes we put that bit on. You can proberly get them from a local nut and bolt show or something simular though.

Thanks all And I am I right in saying that the early 90/110 transfer boxes had a low ratio? So, with 34" tyres on my bobtail it should be around the equivelant to running 205 tyres?
-
As title really. Does anybody know whether an early 90/110 t-box will fit on a ZF auto from a 1988 range rover 3.5 efi.

Also, speak to Adrian Turner. He has fitted a TD5 into his 200tdi challenge truck. A helpful guy who knows what he is talking about.

I'm sorry, but anyone in their right mind wouldn't pay LRS prices Their equipment is good, but for that money I would expect it to be gold plated

I think that I am right in saying that, the more modifications you do to your engine, the more each mod works with all and the end result is therefore much greater. However, ported heads, gas flowed plenums, balanced cranks, internals etc. will add upto more than your rangie is proberly worth! If you haven't already go for the easier and cheaper upgrades like the tubular manifolds, kenlowe fan, straight through air filter etc. There will be a big difference from these few, and they are alot cheaper. I have just moved my airflow meter so it now is facing the side of the bonnet with a k&n cone on the end and a vent in the side of the bonnet. Now the air travels straight to the plenum and I have to say that the throttle responce has improved and along with the tubular manifolds it is freer reving. These two mods work together quite well as it now takes in air with less restrictions and releases the gases with less restrictions. Although it would now benefit from an ecu remap to it is then set up for the mods.

I have them on my 1988 bobtail. I welded them to the rad brackets and they seem to work. As for your pointers.........don't buy cheep ones! Spend a little bit more and get the higher quality ones.
If you require any pics, pm me and I can sort you some out.

I have seen quite a few disco commercials sell for good money on ebay, no matter what the milage was really.

I dont think there is a strength issue with jez's arms tbh, have you read the linked thread?
Will.
Sorry, didn't see that link to start with So, the answer to my own question is yes they are very strong! Although, I am still not persuaded to buy his rather than gwyn's. I am sure they are just as good, however, I have seen gwyn's in action and know what they are all about etc. and have delt with gwyn before and his customer service is about as good as it gets so........................
-
Are his one's solid steel then? If so they won't be as strong as gwyn's twin walls?
-
Do they come with the bushes at the axle end as per picture from his site?
-
I have the +2" springs from scrapiron and the gwyn lewis challenge parts. My bushes aren't chewed up, but under articulation you can put your finger behind the bush! I thought gwyn lewis as I already have some of his equipment and have been treated with maximum respect from him and as yet, have not heard even the slightest of bad feedback from him
-
What is the exact price difference between a detroit and an arb with compressor, fitted?
-
atm I am thinking of buying the gwyn lewis twin walled arms as I know that his equipment is very well built and is of high quality. However, is there any other recommendations that you lot consider being better than these?
TIA

Young bobtail Rhys' question is on the mark.
Detroit lockers are made to automatically unlock the outer wheel when turning, however,on very low traction surfaces they sometimes fail to unlock when they should, and so they can have the tendancy to push the vehicle straight on in a turn.
I think detroits great for general offroading, and I've never had any issues with clunky engagement or on road handling - they work, and you never have to think about whether to engage them - but after running one for the last two years I am changing to a selectable locker (ARB) for the improvement in steering which is so important for trialing.
Thank you
-
thats what all difflockers do...
thats the point in a diff so you dont get that understeer.
your not surposed to turn whilst your axle is locked.
Yes, I knew that bit, but when off road and the ground is slippery, a detroit won't come out so this will bring on indersteer, therefore a three-point turn. Or spend a bit more and get an arb saving you the three-point turn So, what one is it?

I assume you lot have heard of the wazza design for the 8274 then? Is it any good? There is a guy in aus who has bought the gigglepin top housing and then put the 2 wazza mounts on, therefore giving him 4 motors and a 24hp 8274
