  6. apoligies for lack of pics, i will get them tomorrow. along with some measurements, had a mass work oad thrust upon us due to a major exercise on the plain. jon
  7. for the fog light check the bulb holder on the contacts for the bulb, as for the main beam try connecting a test lamp to the main beam wire to see if that lights up so you can eliminate the cable to headlights for short circuit and high resistance, does the dipped filament go out when main beam is selected? hth. jon
  8. do you want pics of it attached to the vehicle or just the parts? i can do both tomorrow when i am at work! regards jon
  9. i to would also reccommend the eden project but go when the weather is nice, that way it wont be very busy. also a visit to any fishing town is worth a look, like padstow and any of the beaches and costal walks. maybe even out to blu hills where the range rover was launched
  10. help needed. i need to calibrate the ride height sensors as i had an intermittant fault with one of them. so my question is how is it done? i have nanocom but dont want to mess to much without really knowing what i am doing incase it all goes pete tong! thanks in advance jon
  11. sounds to me like the exhaust manifold is warped, and possilbly a sheared manifold bolt or 2. had same problem on mine. hth. jon
  12. nothing that was involved with the live demo. but thursday we didnt finish till gone midnight dragging other dead vehicles all the way back to tidworth! its a shame all landys dont come with the 50cal would make for an intresting drive!
  13. i will come along but only if it does not rain between now and then as i only have road biased tyres and i know how unforgiving the plain is when its wet! but i could always "borrow" a defender from work!!!!!
  14. were you sat in the grandstand? been there all week. sat in a foden recovery vehicle hoping nothing broke! the apache and tornado were impressive.
  15. the metal ring you have circled is what the rubber boot sits over. some of them can be removed and a new one fitted. HTH. jon
  16. we had the halfords trade guy visit us at work a couple of years ago and give one to every one who wanted it. suppose its a bonus being in the army some times, that day he gave out about 300 of them. but i also get military discount at lots of places, like camberley auto factors, you just got to ask it also helps being a mechanic aswell! the halfords card is worth it just for buying bulbs, oils and wiper blades. and their own tools are good quality with lifetime guarentee and loads of discount with the card!
  17. we have just had 4 inches in 4 hrs laying on top of what was there already. been for a drive in the disco on 18in road tyres (goodyear) will be getting at2s when these are bold. very impressed with its capability and supprised as well because i dont have the diff lock fitted in the car yet. funny watching other people getting stuck on the smallest of hills in their cars! is it mean to point and laugh at them for having inferiour vehicles?
  18. is any one else looking forward to the snow that is due for the uk? its a shame i have to work tomorrow, but at least my job involves fixing military landrovers so i might have to take one on a road test around salisbury plain if we get enough snow to make it interesting!
  19. so i was going to change the axle oil in my disco and noticed the filler plug is the same as the rubbish plastic bleed plugs off older landrovers! now having previous experience of these shearing what are my options for replacment? a brass bleed plug? or will the filler plug off disco 1/defender fit the hole? or the ones fitted to a wolf axle? can get these from work! cheers jon
  20. well i had a new, well reconditioned ashcrofts, geabox supplied and fitted by challenger 4x4 in aldershot and i just wanted to praise the guys and girls there for a top class service. even after leaving their workshop today and losing hi range a quick phone call to them and one of their guys quickly arrived to me st the side of the road and we were o our way again in 10mins. so i just wanted to say a thanks to them and i would also recommend them to all who need any kind of work doing. jon
  21. an emissions test on a diesel only involves checking the density of the smoke and not what bad things are in the smoke so removing the cat on a diesel will not warrant a fail on the mot.
  22. had bout inch in tidworth and it was falling like a blizzard when i went to work at 0700 this morning! nothing better after 2 weeks off
  23. have you tried putting the transfer box in low range then trying the off road switch? just a thought jon
